I would really like to see an honest review from Arteza. honestly, I fee like Arteza is sponsoring so many people that it's inflating the positivity of their product, and, from what I've heard from people who were not sponsored, their products are great for those who like drawing as a hobby and aren't too serious, but they are on a medium-ish to somewhat low end of student grade, or what an eighth grader may use in art class.

@@thenerdybunny1296 I'm not sponsored by Arteza and I've recently bought their colored pencils (have no idea about the rest of the range). They actually live up to the hype but I'm no artist. I draw and color as a hobby and I have several artist grade pencils (Polys, Derwent, Prismas etc). These pencils CANNOT stand up to those sets for sure. If anyone tells you otherwise they're lying (maybe even to themselves?) I do not trust their lightfast ratings either. BUT on the other hand, they're definitely better than most student grade pencils I've tried like those from Staedtler and even Faber Castel. For the price at least, there isn't another set I would recommend. The only pencils that are better than Arteza are the Faber Castell Goldfaber pencils and they cost twice as much as these. They layer quite well (I've gone up to 8-9 layers on some papers), hold a point (no breakage, no special sharpeners needed) and blend very nicely with OMS. They're incredibly soft for non-artist grade pencils. They have bright and vivid colors, not many pastel/muted/natural colors. I find them especially lacking in the blues and greys but have a good range of greens and browns. Overall I would recommend them unless you're a pro artist or you can afford to spend $100-$200 on art supplies. If you have that kind of money, definitely go with Prismas, Polys or Pablos but if your budget is $30 or less, Arteza is my first suggestion. I got them on a lightning deal for $18. Seriously at that price, it's a fantastic deal for what you get. Like I said, I've no clue about their paints or pens but colored pencils? They're hard to beat in terms of quality vs price point.

@@sugarcandy243 Cool! I'll see if I can check those out then. To be honest, when I wrote the comment, I was thinking about their watercolors and gouache because I saw one youtuber rave about them and I was looking at the swatches like 'Erm... I don't know what you're seeing, but while they may be decent, I don't think I'd buy them- I have many other things that are around that same price range that perform better"

*YES PLEASE, DO A REVIEW ON ARTIST'S LOFT!* Not only do they frey, but I've been having trouble with them being sticky, and I'm curious as to if the problem is the markers, or if it's me. I'd also be super happy if you could review Chartpak Spectra AD markers. I freaking love them, and I have Copic Ciao, and I feel like there may be only a very slight difference, except for the smell, but I love the smell of rubbing alcohol, so that's not a problem for me. Also, more Dollarama markers have come out. I have all of the ones so far, and I love them, although I still do prefer brush, it's more colours I didn't have before.

Having worked with limited sets in the past, I feel like they're strongest when doing non-character/human pieces. (This includes Copic.) Things like environments, plants, animals, etc. I feel like this set could had some potential, but it's hard to say from just watching your video. Perhaps in the future, it'd be worth doing blend tests before diving into a drawing. You might be able to figure out some tricks or good matches with the markers instead of doing it on the fly. (Plus it could save you some shock and frustration. I've definitely been there xD)

9 months after but these markers would still be tricky to work with like she showed the *bright* yellow went over the *dark* purple and no staining that.... Is very confusing how do markers do that There isn't really much that these markers would be good for They could be good for drawings with no shading but that isn't really baylees thing or anyone's really :/

@KimberKiwiArt
@KimberKiwiArt 5 жыл бұрын
Another thing you could try is putting a lightly wet paintbrush to the marker nib to transfer some of the pigment and brush it onto the paper. You can do this with cheaper markers to tone down the pigment. It’s helpful when trying to get a softer tone for things, such as skin tones. I’ve tried this with other brands that aren’t Copic and it works okay. You should try it! Anyways, great video as always! Cheers!

As someone who studies industrial design, these colors are most likely gonna be good for adding accent colors. I use a very cheap (like 30 cents a marker cheap) marker brand for my base color and then use my copic greys and some pencils/pastels to shade them. They work great for that purpose!

I love markers. The way the color flows on paper and how much ink there is. Thank you for sharing this video, Baylee. It’s very difficult and really disheartening to try to make art with markers that aren’t really meant to blend. But you still manage to get something out of it. I don’t know of markers that you can buy in stores. But maybe you can try Target if you have one in your area.

From personal experience, Artist's Loft marker nibs do fray after a period of time, however it mostly comes down to how much you use them and how hard you're pressing when using them. Decent quality as far as ink, but at least in my experience kinda pale. Also, I think the final art turned out great. But thats also coming from someone who has very little experience with alcohol based markers!

I love bullet nibs as my hand shakes a ton so brush is hard to use. When I saw Walmart sells these, I was excited. At first, I thought maybe it was your lack of experience with bullet nibs, but... alcohol markers should never look that bad. And maybe they would work better for me since I combine them with all of my markers, including my copics and the such, but I kinda don't want to waste my money. I would consider the pastel pack if it was on sale.

Somewhat off-topic: You sometimes touch on having difficulty coming up with creative art ideas, and we all have a "thing" that we avoid, and maybe that's a thing. Maybe something that would be good/fun for all of us, is to take one of those month-long "daily challenges". Except instead of a rushed, finished work, we just take ten minutes at the end of the night to fill a page of quick thumbnails. Every bad idea you can come up with relating to the day's theme. Because I think we all have a lot of random lousy ideas, but never write them down because they start out weak. But with a bit of thought/work/additional life context, those bad ideas can become good ones later. You could end up with a whole sketchbook of ideas you can flip through when you need something.

Artist Loft IS currently changing up their nibs to be a combination fiber/rubber nib instead of a 100% fiber nib. There IS a way to tell which ones have the nibs and which ones of the old. The sticker that has the bar code is how you tell. The old 100% fiber nibs have ALL the numbers (UPS, ID, and lot) all printed under the bar code. The Newer ones have numbers (ID and Lot) Above and the UPC below the bar code. So it seems that Artist Loft has heard about the concerns and is addressing them-and I hope if people do go out to buy more they take this into consideration.

Please review the artist loft ones, I really want to hear your opinions. I bought them and only use them for coloring crappy school projects. They fray really badly!

The copic one is definitely better, but I liked the texture you added to some parts of the other one. Adds interest to the piece

Arteza has alcohol markers called Everblend markers, they come in a set of 60. They currently only have chisel and bullet nibs but will come out with brush nibs soon. Those might be something worth trying.

If you want a copic color blend exactly like R59 R39 and R29 use brea reese R338 R218 and R317. Both labeled darkest to lightest

Love the artwork! Although the colouring with the Wallmart markers is very nice, the one with the Copics is gorgeous.

I have these same markers actually! We found them at Hobby Lobby on sale. We got three packs in different colors. They're decent enough for coloring, I mostly do ocean themed things because that's what I can do with the colors I have.

I'd love to see you try the Artist Loft markers -- I have a fair collection of them when I was first starting with markers and they have some really nice colours; I've never experienced the nibs fraying but I find they're quite stiff (especially compared to copics) so I think so many people find they fray because they're using too much pressure on the brush nib.

Artist's Loft made newer ones that don't fray as much but make sure it has the "flexible nib" sticker on the packaging.

Yeah I found these same markers at a store called Tuesday Morning for $6 per pack. I believe I got the “pastel” set, and I have an earth tone set and a grey/black set. I can’t remember exactly I’d have to get up and look but there are other colors. I don’t hate them, but I also use them with my other markers, so I’ll use a Copic with it and they work just fine. I find them to work best when I’m filling in small areas and doing shadows. I mean for $6 per pack you can’t go wrong. I’ve never seen them at Walmart, however I recently saw some at Walmart that were by Royal & Langnickel called “Azure” I would like to try those out. The packaging on those is similar to the Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers which I love. I have Artists Loft markers and I like them a lot. I also have Master Markers, Ohuhu, Spectrum Noir classic, Premieré by Nicole and of course Copics. I like to get all kinds of different brands and I’ve used them all together and I’ve gotten some really good results. Idk every single marker you’ve tried, but I’m looking into the Winsor & Newton markers, Prismacolor, Studio 71, Arteza, Artify, Art Alternatives, Finecolour, Blick....there’s just so many different ones. I’d love to build on my Copics but since they’re so expensive I love experimenting with other markers! Alcohol markers are just the best!
