I've found that wet in wet sucks a bit if you don't have a very textured surface. You always see streaks because the colour sticks to the model so fast, especially when it's warmer outside. What does work well on more flat surfaces is painting something with the lighter colour and then putting a darker colour in the dark edge and feathering it out with a dry brush, eventually with a bit of contrast medium - to get the gradients clear.

Contrast paint works even better if you start with the lighter color first then go with the darker color second.

Im just about to try and paint the fire giant from Blood Rage. I have the dark red, red, orange, and yellow contrast and I was wondering what would be the best way to do a multiple color blend like this? I'm not good enough to do the whole sword at once and I'm wondering if it's better to stsrt with the deep red up top and then work my way down.. Would I use contrast medium between each of the colors? Or would it be best to do most of it in yellow and then use the contrast reds from the top? Or would it be best to do the whole sword Ina bright yellow first and then just blend the reds and oranges into the yellow? Thanks guys!

I applaud the experimentation! Good work! Can I make a request? Can you do an experiment very much like this one, but give us a black armor demo? That elusive pearl that everyone painting Ravenguard/Black Templars/Chaos/Deathwatch/Dark Angels/etc... contemplates. Ex. Edge highlight with medium. Paint black -or that violet from the previous video. Subtly, blend a blue/grey into the black. Essentially reducing many many glazes, to a couple layers and medium. Just a request. I am enjoying watching you experiment with the range and discovering the different properties it has. Thank you.

They actually blend really well *without* the medium, just use more paint and be a little faster.

I think you'd still be better off using the good old Flow Improver with paint wet blend trick. Effortless to do. But can take a bit to get right.

And honestly I agree with you. The point of this is to experiment and see what can be accomplished with new products, it's not meant to suggest other ways of blending aren't still preferable :)

This is very interesting and I cannot wait to see what the cadre of elite painters will do with Contrast. Also, sad and shameful to see people putting these paints and people who like them down already. Saw some folks in the 30k community being extremely dismissive. As if that particular scene needed more elitists...

I truly don't get the hate. If you don't like the result, don't use them... But don't be a dick to other people who are excited about getting more boots on the table. I'm all about encouraging people to paint their minis and just enjoy the experience - if Contrast helps people with that, great! If they prefer traditional painting, that's great too. Plus people bitching about Contrast are acting like we haven't done the exact same thing with other products for years... Don't hear too many people angry that Agrax Earthshade or Devlan Mud exist...

Well definitively don't work. U have no use in blend 6,50 euro color if u can blend better with 3 euro ones. With blend u lose totally the technical effect of contrast, is just a expensive blend.
