Very cool fire starters. I wonder how he collects the resin , to melt down and then dip the cotton balls in it. Impressive burn time. Thanks for sharing. Tony.

You've got the best community around, Dean. You're always adding to the collective knowledge. I agree with you and prefer larger ferro rods as well. Mini ferro rods can work great if you have an accelerant with your tinder, but they're really hard to use for natural materials that require a bit more oomph.
@waveman015 күн бұрын
thanks mate, with the small rods you've always got to be on point and they leave no room for error which isn't always a guarantee in a survival situation

Nice them work good . I have some of the small rods and you have to be rite on your game to get them work

agreed mate, with ferro rods I believe go big or go home.

@@waveman0 A small ferro rod is good survival skills - light a fire or die and it may be all you have. So improvise, adapt, overcome. A small ferro rod on your boot is no good unless you can use it to light a fire - so use cotton balls - dipped in Vaseline or wax or pine pitch or just by itself to light your bird's nest.
@waveman018 күн бұрын
@@thesheepstationcook8266 while I agree I've come to adapt to a larger ferro rod in my boot (as shown), 50mmx10mm is about as small as I go and with high ankle boots you can go larger 60 or 100mm length without becoming uncomfortable.

I put the resin side down and it acts like a candle and sucks the fuel up to burn - I had a tin of hot melted resin and dipped the bottom half if the cotton ball into it and wait for it to dry.

You can use Vaseline and cotton balls - but its messy and gets crap on your fingers - but melted pine resin is clean and easy and I find it for nothing. And it works with tiny ferro rods and put it on your shavings of fatwood and it goes off like a beaut. Have fun.

Pine pitch is Mother Nature's Napalm. It burns hot, strong and for a long time. It burns itself 100% and will take everything around it with it. The Cotton wool is easy to flame even with a tiny useless Ferro rod that doesn't easily ignite anything else - but it will easily ignite a ball of cotton wool. If you have a tiny ferro rod with a wrist bracelet you can light cotton wool with ease.

@ Six years of research and I must have watched every cotton round fire starter video, I have never seen my method. Even a patent search shows no results. I was looking to take out the patent myself, but there is an initial cost involved.
