I would love to see a comparison between Hi lite and 1/4grid in sunlight. Or all the the other diffusions.

I use 1/2 soft frost all the time on exteriors to take the edge off of sunlight while still looking like sun. Otherwise I use grid cloths and magic cloth for interiors.

I was a dancer in a mega budget movie earlier this year and they almost solely used soft frost for diffusion! I feel at moments they used highlight for closeups on the female star. Pretty cool!

@@joshmillerdp Pretty large! 12x? And they were pretty far with it because of wide shots for the numbers! And it looked STUNNING on the main actress

Amazing video man! Love your honesty and simplicity when breaking down everything. I usually use the soft frost on sunny exteriors where you don’t want to over soften sunlight but keep the hard quality with a soft touch of diffusion. With the sun there’s no proximity to the source so no hotspot is created and you get a smoother result. Love your work man! 🙌🏼🔥
@joshmillerdp2 ай бұрын
Thank you bro! Ahhhh ok! That makes a ton of sense. I’m definitely going to try out soft frost next time I do an exterior shot. Thanks bro that helps me a ton honestly!

@TheHeadG4mer2 ай бұрын
@ yeah I definitely need to get used to renting stuff, I like to have like a base of things that are owned, that way if I need more I could rent. I’ve always been that way with lenses. I definitely need to be like that more with everything

If you lower the light output, will the 1/4 grid give the same result as the full grid. Secondly, if one has a lower light watt like 200x, the 1/4 should be equal to a 600w full grid. Am I right?
@joshmillerdp2 ай бұрын
Output wise, yes. But how soft the light is, no. But that’s exactly how to think about this stuff. If you only have a 200w then you have to think of how you can make it work
@lemayfilms42142 ай бұрын
Great video! What are the top 2 or 3 diffusions types that you find yourself using on the majority of your shoots?
@joshmillerdp2 ай бұрын
Depends on the scene but go top three for me are magic cloth, silent full grid 1/4 silent grid!
@lemayfilms42142 ай бұрын
@@joshmillerdp Thanks Josh! Do you think an Aputure 300x is powerful enough for a 6x6' of magic cloth, or would you recommend a more powerful light like the 600d?
@joshmillerdp2 ай бұрын
@ it’s definitely powerful enough there will definitely be limitations. You won’t be able to get it back as far or far from your talent. I actually should make a video showing how different situations require or don’t require like a 300 or 600 light!
@lemayfilms42142 ай бұрын
@@joshmillerdp Thanks so much Josh. That video would be super helpful. Also, with black friday coming up, I'd love to see a video where you discuss the best investments in terms of modifiers, lighting, monitors...etc. you'd recommend for beginner and intermediate videographers! I'm definitely struggling with where it's best to invest transferring from weddings to corporate and commercial video work.
