Acrylics have come a long way but for anything that will get handled a lot or used, Enamels or Lacquers are the best choice. Enamels got a bad rep from years of ignorance by people using the likes of Testors with no clue how to use enamel paint. They blamed their results on the brand instead of their own lack of knowledge. Thanks to You tube the brand can recover a bit with channels like this showing how each paint is properly thinned, applied and added hardeners if needed. Love your work Rex stay great!

do a gloss black then seal it with a first mist or automotive 2k clear wait 10min before next coat this give the hardener to kick a little then do a second coat which should be a wet coat. And don’t forget any imperfections you leave on the helmet will show up in the gloss black and show up even more once chromed. If you can’t get or have the equipment for automotive clear gloss varnish from liquitex works too just follow the same steps though the first mist coat might need a bit more that 10min

Duralumen chrome looks really good. When I checked Etsy the price in Canadian dollars wasn't bad either but the shipping was close to $50.00 Canadian. Nope! No way, no how. And if he ships UPS only, there will be fees and duty because UPS does that to us very time. That would end up being a $100 bottle of paint. On the other hand, best wishes on your new line of paint. Some winning colours there.Great plan for matt and gloss of each colour.

I noticed that the Green Stuff World Chrome color is a little warmer when you were comparing them and I'm sure we'll get a good look at all the differences when you do the shoot-out. The seller's FAQ says it can't be used over laquer and enamels. Most of your results looked good though (just that one cloudy spoon). Did you notice any problems?

@@reef___Q I use several different bases. For airbrushing I use Alclad Gloss Black Base and Mr Color Gloss Black. For a spray can I use Tamiya TS-14 Gloss Black and Spaz Stix Black Chrom Base

Another excellent video. Have you noticed any of the chrome paints dulling after a few months? I watched the Engineered Angler and one of his chrome (either Alclad or Spatz) tests had dulled significantly over the months without topcoat. I'm using the e7 chrome sealer over Alclad and it is excellent (thanks to you for that!).

Unsealed chrome paints have the ability to dull as solvents and oil are the big no no’s for these paints so even moisture in the air over time and a lot of handling will tarnish,dull, or remove unsealed chrome paints.

I was looking for chrome paint about 12 months ago and came across a spray painter on Utube who sprayed a plastic helmet with base black and then chrome paint over the top, he put it next to and old chrome VW bumper bar and you could barely tell the difference between the genuine chrome to the spray paint, but the 2 cans of spray paint were approximately $300.00, to expensive for most of us. You have painted spoons next to your chrome air brush sitting on your bench. Compare the painted spoons to proper chrome, it's just silver paint, definitely not chrome at all.

No thinner and if you don’t plan to handle whatever is chromed a lot you don’t need a sealer, but do note that the oils from your skin will remove it and so will solvents as they can ruin the chrome if handled to much.

I don't see why not. They have the same consistency. But the difference is Molotow is meant to be brushed on and this has to be airbrused. So because of that I wouldn't try it. However, the Green Stuff World made for brushing should work fine.

You should try Born Mirror & Born Chrome from BORN PAINT. Both paints are really good.

@@oscarponce4137 that's funny I've had problems with Gaia EX paint too. Is the piece prepped? Cleaned with an alcohol rub? Also try lightly sanding the surface. If you get better results after that then you'll know it's the piece not the paint. Go step by step to figure out which it is. If it's still the same we'll try something on the airbrush side

I don't know if you know of Gpaints but they offer a starter kit for their paints I think it would be a great idea for you to do a starter kit with yours as well considering how many beginners to the hobby this channel brings in it could be a good idea for beginners to grab some common used colors in one big package. :)

Stick with lacquers. Gunpla painters don’t use enamels as much because it could screw with the panel lining. They just aren’t as good to airbrush as well.

That does not look chrome at all to me. More dark chrome. Which is kinda nice but have far fewer uses. At least for me. Not as shiny as most other chromes. Doesn’t look to great for me.
