This video plus your tip review video are exactly what I needed when I was looking to purchase my first cane! I’m sure these will help so many people. My daily driver is a 56” slimline with a ceramic tip. It’s more durable than you think, but is very floppy at longer lengths. My first one was 58” and I was still using roller tips. I do not recommend that at all. My marshmallow kept coming unscrewed and with the weight at the bottom, the cane looked like I was waving a pool noodle in front of me.

I just found your channel. Great job at reviewing all the canes. I personally have several canes depending on what I am doing. I have a no job cane for when I’m needing to do some serious travel. I have a slimline cane from I need some thin to just be out of my way, but need something for identification as well such as at work. And also keep a, folding graphite cane around for when I need some kind of in between the two

I use the No-Jab cane for the reasons you mentioned. I do have a lightweight telescopic cane which I saw on The Blind LIfe (it's the one button telespoing one which I'll use when I am matched with my Guide dog.

I'm new to white canes (I've been blind/visually impaired all my life but I had no idea. (I have CVI) I recently got my first cane and it's an pink ambutech slimline one with a Marshmallow tip. 😅 it seems to work pretty well but I want to get a regular size one eventually.

I like the Rigid cane. Its just like you say Hard to Put away in tight places. I Do Hav a No Jab cane, And I find that it sends metal shavings when the spring rubs inside. I have had to dig some out of my hand. Phillip Daigle

I'm pretty new to this blind game. So I did get a white came in front of VA and it has the big roller tip I guess you can call it. It's a bit heavy but I kind of like things a bit heavy. So for me as of right now it's okay. Before this I got a free game from some kind of blind association. It was like one solid piece of plastic. The metal tip. And I kind of liked it. I mean it did its job. But since I have hip problems I mostly use the new white cane that I have and roll later walker at the same time. So my only problems with that it's kind of hard to hold on to the rollator and onto the white cane at the same time. But it's possible. And I'm pretty happy with it. :-) I'm glad that you feel better. Hope you have a good day. And God bless you.

Welcome back! Like you, I have tried a large number of white canes and wish that this video existed before I spent hundreds of dollars on white canes from Ambutech. The one cane that was not in this video is the two section telescopic graphite cane from Ambutech. Unlike the telescopic.cane you reviewed, the two section cane has a twist lock that allows you to adjust the length at whatever increment you wish and it doesn't collapse when you run into anything. You buy the longest length that you require and can shorten the cane by as much as half the overall length. I use a metal glide tip to make it as light as possible and I find that there is pretty decent feedback with constant contact. I’m using the rubber grip because it makes the grip as narrow as possible, which is more comfortable for my weak hands.

@@UnsightlyOpinions You're welcome! I also noticed you didn't mention the ceramic tip which used to be my favorite before moving to live in a wheelchair. My only thing against the ceramic tip is with being much closer to the ground in a wheelchair, the rubber ring around the top of the ceramic tip creates significant drag on a lot of ground types and the rubber ring is not removable unless you choose to grind it off which is a lot of work. But other than that, the ceramic tips take a lot of abuse before needing to be replaced. I loved your comment about aiming the cane to the side in case you bump into an obstacle. I learned the hard way with a cane handle to the throat that it is very important to pay attention to the angle of your cane in relation to sensitive body parts. Enjoy the rest of the year!

I am interested in all of these options from Ambutech. As a kid, I used that old style aluminumcane you were talking about and didn’t realize that they updated the design. For about the last 10 years or so, my daily drivers have been some form of the NFB carbon fiber, telescoping cane during the summer, and a folding cane during the winter. I like the tactile feedback that I get from a telescoping cane, better, but I find that the collapsing problem happens a lot more during the colder months, and the folding cane seems to perform better under snowy and icy conditions. However, NFB have raised their prices pretty significantly over the last few years, and I am looking at other options, the fiberglass definitely looks like a good shout, might even pick up either a slim line or aluminum cane for more heavy duty use during the winter, very informative video, thank you!

I had a couple of fiberglass canes several years ago. Twice I caught my fingers in the joints while closing them up and cut myself enough to draw blood. These days I stick with graphite. I have a telescoping cane in my briefcase for emergencies.

Ooh so interesting. I’m in the UK. My favourite everyday cane is the ambutech aluminium. The weight balances well with the feedback I prefer. I have a couple I keep a Huju tip on one and large rollerball on the other. I like the Huju tip for my walks into the countryside and along the beach, it’s sold as an all terrain tip, my rollerball is my go to for when I’m walking in town and indoors.

Aluminum is a good cane, too heavy for my weak wrists lol but its what I used for more than a decade! I was trying to track down that tip for my cane tip review. I couldn’t get it shipped here sadly. It’s nice to know it works well for off-reading.

My daily or maintain, is an amputee, fiberglass with a marshmallow tip. As a deafblind graduate student fiberglass seem to be the best and most 30 at keen material that I use when I travel or navigate around campus

I really enjoyed this video! Your reviews are always so thorough! I’ve been using the No-jab for a while and I really like the medium-ish level of feed back as I’ve found higher feedback canes trigger my nerve pain. The only real issue I initially found with it was how long the elastic is but I ended up sliding a toggle switch on the strap and throwing a jump ring on the end and it made it so much easier to fold. I’m glad you’re feeling better!

I personally use 2 Ambutech Canes. Both 56 inch One rigid, the other five segment both with Rolling marshmallow tips. Almost forgot both are graphite. With my other conditions I need to carry a back pack so space and weight are always a consideration. Cheers. Glad you are feeling well again,

Nice video, good comparision and understandable voice for someone like me with partial deafness (And english is not my main language). I'am using folding graphite option, it is very versatile. I'am not a blind person, but have poor eyesight so it is used for support.

Very cool to watch! I found it neat that you were pleasantly surprised by the fiberglass cane. I’d be interested to see you compare the rigid graphite cane to the rigid fiberglass cane, because I generally find that fiberglass is just extremely good for detailed feedback. I say rigid specifically though, because in general, the more breaks you put into the shaft of the cane, the more it interferes with the quality of the tactile feedback you get, so the rigid cane generally provides more direct feedback. I wonder if that may be why you found that the rigid graphite cane gave so much more feedback than the folding graphite. I think it would be neat to put those two rigid canes against each other with different tips and test the differences. I would also be interested in seeing you try the rigid canes with slip on tips rather than hook, because personally, I really like removing that elastic. Makes the cane noticeably lighter, and I find it helps me get even more detailed feedback. I haven’t really used Ambutech very often because I find them very heavy and I’m personally super partial to some other lighter brands here in the US, so I’d be interested to see reviews of the Ambutech canes with slip on tips. I currently use a rigid fiberglass cane with a slip on metal glide tip made by D-Canes here in the US. Until recently, I always used the Chris Park rigid canes and liked them better than Ambutech rigid, but I finally tried out D-Canes about a year ago and I’m in love with it. I generally like my cane to be as light as humanly possible because I have some other disabilities that affect my strength, and I find that the lighter the cane, the more detailed the feedback, so I was surprised I liked this Kane as much as I do because it’s a little bit heavier than Chris Park models. It’s still dramatically lighter though than Ambutech rigid canes, and I find it to be that perfect happy medium between being light enough that the feedback is incredible, and just heavy enough that it feels really high quality and durable. The thing I really like about D-Canes though is that the shaft is super flexible. I don’t mean this to say that it will bend, because having a cane that permanently alters its shape is definitely not great, and is a huge drawback as you mentioned to the aluminum canes. What I mean is that it has give temporarily and bounces back immediately upon removal of that pressure, so it accomplishes something very similar to the no-jab Cain. It has flexible give so that when you encounter an obstacle, it flexes, which makes it less likely to break, and also makes it less likely to jab you in the stomach. But it also is still one singular piece, so you don’t lose any of the feedback quality like you sometimes do with the no-jab cane because of that spring system. D-Canes only makes rigid canes though, so for those occasions on which I do want something collapsible, I go with Chris Park carbon fiber folding. It’s super lightweight while also being really durable, and the carbon fiber material provides feedback that is super similar to the fiberglass. You can get Chris Park canes shipped free to Canada through the National Federation of the Blind. Also, as a sidenote, at least here in the US, airlines actually legally can’t require you to put your cane in the utility closet or anywhere else away from you. That’s due to the Air Carrier Access Act. You are legally entitled to slide your rigid cane between the wall of the plane and your seat, so it’s completely out of the way but still right next to you for whenever you need to get up. Not sure how that transfers in Canada though.

I rather liked the Chris Parkfolding carbon fiber cane when I checked it out at the San Francisco Lighthouse for the Blind, but two things I didn't like about it were that it feels kind of bottom heavy when you move it from side to side, and that you can only use NFB-style tips on it. I'd love to put a cerramic AmbuTech tip onto that cane, but you can't. I loved everything else about it, though! :)

My favorite is the folding graphite white cane with hook-style roller marshmallow and the stationary marshmallow. I use a 50 inch four-section graphite cane from ambutech, and I switch between the roller marshmallow and non-roller marshmallow. I would love to purchase a graphite rigid cane some day.

That's my go to as well, but I always aim for a 5 section so it fits in my backpack comfortably haha. :) It's definitely a nice feel for sure.

Hi girl. Glad you’re back, and feeling better. No apology needed for taking a break to take care of your health. Second, I am on the market for a new cane, because mine is going to break any day now. I remember that I hardly used my cane while I had my guide dog. I do live in Minnesota where we get a lot of snow. Additionally, I am a college student. Not sure when I’ll meet my second guide dog, but I’m not sure if I should pay a lot of money for a cane if I’m goin to throw it into a closet when dog number 2 comes. As a fellow handler, what do you suggest?

I typically like to have 2 canes even with my guide dog (the 10 in this video were entirely for the propose of filming lol) I have one durable for times between dogs or if I am going somewhere without my guide and one super compact to shove in a bag in case of emergency with my guide. So I suppose if dog number 2 is coming soon go for the compact, if it may be months away I would probably go for something a little more durable. But you don’t need to break the bank for something super fancy unless you expect to be using it for a very long time.

I mainly use a long NFB cane because I prefer to hear and feel the tactile vibrations from the sidewalks, streets, etc. I also do have an Ambutech folding cane that's tall as well for backup. I love both but prefer the long straight canes because it's more easily to feel the vibrations than the folding cane. I would like to have the extra pink cane if possible 😊

Revolution folding canes also have longer interlocking joints so the segments are more stable & you lose less tactile information

May I ask how tall/long the pink slimline cane is? I’ve been needing a new one but just don’t have the funds for it. My aluminum “starter” cane has bent and the straight cane I got at no cost through an organization is all bent out of shape too. I wish it didn’t sway as much as the other ones. Just seems a good backup
