Definitely needs to be a series : "around the world in 80 bricks" - 8 episodes with 8 brickies from various countries teaching you how to use their tools and techniques to lay 10 perfect bricks? You get to learn some new techniques and tools (which we know you'd love), host some special guests @ HQ and we get to see how the rest of the world does it. I'd watch it !

The traditional London trowel makes sense in every way for laying Bricks for sure!!! But this handy dandy Triangle can do it all. it´s also easy on your wrist for spray grout and flinging Plaster on the wall, it´s actually quite fun if you let the trowel do most of the work being all loosey goosey. :D Doing the joints on Bricks is more like one swipe than the whole middle-left-right-thing you guys usually do. Also, thanks for trying new stuff Stu. I always enjoy how supportive your dad is! Stay awesome.

It's not usual to have spot boards in Germany Stu, most of the sites i was on had the compo in tubs, kind of like cut down oil drums, and if you use a normal English trowel in them you catch your knuckles on the rim, believe me you only do that once. Those trowels work perfectly well lifting the muck out of these tubs.

In Ukraine, such trowels are also used, but mostly beginners use them. In general, they like the shape of a trapezoid. There are heart-shaped trowels, but they are also used for plastering when throwing mortar. You have it in the shape of an iron. The Chinese used us a piece of iron cut in the shape of a small shovel. They use it both as a pickaxe and for making mortar..I love a trapezoid. I put masonry on it, I throw a mortar when plastering. It is convenient for her to rake out the remains of the solution from the bucket.

I have 2 of these, one big, one small. Seem to be called Berlinerkelle( some say hamburgkelle). Lots of europeans get mortar in square tubs or box's. Small ones for bricks, large ones for porotherm type blocks. In the right circumstance there ok, not when getting mortar of a flat board though. Round mortar tubs you'd, probably use a belgian swan neck with rounded end.

Well done , you don't seem to be having any difficulties using a German trowel ,and are using the same technique the Germans use for getting mortar into the perp joint by dragging the brick end into the mortar bed . These are excellent trowels that put far less strain onto the wrists and hands , well done . These style trowels are used in many European countries , for good reason.
