when i started and blokes talked about left /right hand trowels for cutting edge i thiught it was a wind up ,left the tops course with a whs , never regretted swapping for marshaltown , regarding cutting bricks with the trowel ,always thought it quicker to mark and cut with a bolster made a little wooden gauge for 3/4s and queen closures , hope the old back gets better mate

I’ve never really bothered with about my trowel. My first was a 10” narrow London on the YTS . My boss who took me on abs indentured me bought me a CK brick hammer and a WHS trowel but I can’t remember it . I used to buy Marshalltown 11 “ Phillys but they didn’t last long in the foundations so I went into Ox . Half the price but lasted as long . Then we started getting free OX ones for a while till they fell out with us . 😆. Then Rodian gave Alex and I a 10” London narrow which Al uses and a 11 “ Philly duracork handle which a love using . We had a trip up to Rhinobuild a while back and I bought Al a 10 1/2 “ narrow London BON trowel as they are a stockist now, nice trowel . Al likes the slim plastic handle . Rodian also gave us a Rose trowel which we hated and gave away 🤢😆🧱👍🏽
@bricklayersworldwithandy627710 ай бұрын
Rose trowels can be a problem, they are individually made but quality, they make a low and high lift and that's the one you want changing from a MT, unfortunately we aren't getting them in the UK, I've heard they are also struggling to keep up with demand as it's a traditional forge (Quality). The Bon trowels felt good when I picked one up at the Comp, they are made in Slovenia but they wanted me to pay for it obviously not famous enough😁🤣 Charlie using one at the mo👍

Contact the seller ,ask him Andy ,he might have bought it new . Judging by the square cut handle end I’d say it’s a fairly new trowel . I would,nt read to much into it age wise by going on the stiffness of the blade . Those rose trowels are all over the shop as regards consistency of manufacture. I have a brand new 10 inch rose narrow London ,and the blade is as thick and as rigid as the Dutch trowels .

@brickbybric10 ай бұрын
@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 just had a look and the limber blades start at 10 inch . You’d probably have to go to the states and check through the standard shank trowels in a suppliers to find one with with handle angle that suits you . I’m not sure if the limber blades are on sale in the uk .

W rose still make the ridged solid blade have 3 narrow londons 1,s worn 9inch other 2 11inch. Always buy from speedcrete just ask them to check the blades etc. did get a broad heel sent across from American via speedcrete 11inch thing was a monster 6inch wide at back again was solid blade rings bell when hit anything with it 😆 nae good for the arm use now and when on the block on flat. Can’t get on with plastic handles. Rose proform suits me a lot better thin style straight through suits me. Limber blades roses good Andy but wouldn’t want to be chipping bricks with them tho. Super light in the hand.

Andy- I live about 15 miles from the Rose Factory in Sharron Hill PA. I was lucky enough to be inside once, you would love it, stepping back in time! I'm a trowel hound as well and love me a good W. I was given a WRose by an American Bricklayer whom came here to New Zealand, whom I employed. I thought I'd give it a go, at the very least it would put an end to the constant..."it's the best Trowel", rhetoric!!! Well...I did use it Andy, on both Concrete Blockwork and Bricks...but after awhile the bloody toe of the Trowel curled up like Aladdin's shoes. Useless!!! Lol... It got retired pretty soon after and I never heard another peep about it. Hope your back gets sorted, sooner than later....

10 inch marshall town is my go to now and i do like the 10 inch rose for blockwork. Anything above a 10 gives me tennis elbow .I had terrible tennis elbow a few years back changed to the rose for a bit and it went so a trowel can make all the difference in many ways mentally and physically Andy . Have u counted how many you have mate ? 👍🧱🧱🧱
@bricklayersworldwithandy627710 ай бұрын
Ive got rid of a lot i had two or more of, just kept one of each for the collection, not counted but probably 30 but was a lot more.A lot of people say the low lift Rose cured there tennis elbow i had it bad mid 80s and had the op been ok since but i still wear a tennis elbow strap at times to protect it.Technically i suppose a smaller trowel should make it worse as more movements are needed with a smaller trowel than a big one but that dosent seem to be the case👍
