Following the advice of the brilliant scientist John Stuart Reid, we never play our gongs above 85 db. We use a simple app on n iPhone to measure, and we do this to test the acoustics for any new room in which we are going to play. Going above 85 db is counter productive if you are holding a "guided meditation" sound bath, as ones body automatically goes into "fight or flight" mode.

I wish you would tell us the decibel level of each. But it would be hard because of the how, the where and I suppose also the when.

Incredible!! I just ordered a 38" Paiste Sound Creation #3 Earth gong. Do you have any advice to offer around playing it and learning it?

Thank you very much for your kind comment, and congratulations on acquiring your Paiste Gong. As you surely know, especially with Sound Creation Gongs, even if they are of a similar design, they can be quite different. My only advice is for you to make your own experiences and, if possible, develop a friendship or, if that's not possible, at least some sympathy for your Gong. If that's not possible either, then evolve with the Gong, even if you don't initially like it. In this case there's a chance that you might fall in love with it eventually :))) (Stockhausen once said he had an erotic relationship with his Gongs :))))
