Another important consideration beyond purity is particle shape. A lot of commercial graphite powders advertised as dry lubricants use spherical particles, which, simply due to their shape, are less conductive when laid out in a film than the kind that you want for electrical purposes: flakes, AKA platelets. With spheres, at each point where two particles make contact, the actual contact surface is positively miniscule, but with flakes they can overlap and your contact surface area is much larger. Commercial conductive carbon paints use flake graphite for expressly this reason. Yet another consideration is particle *size* - I wish I knew more on this facet but I don't. According to google, some researchers found great success with 70-120 micron particles, yet other researchers analyzed Bare Conductive's "Electric Paint" and found the average particle size to be on the orders of nanometers - tiny fractions of a micron. I don't know. My hunch is you want as big of particles as you can get without causing problems with your application method. If you're airbrushing you probably want something small to avoid clogging. What I do know is I have 5-micron graphite flake and it makes a decently-conductive paint when mixed with normal acrylic craft paint. I'm not using it for electroplating, I imagine you would need a non-water-soluble binder for that, which I investigated and found some people using shellac dissolved in alcohol, and others using oil-based urethane sealants.

hi what is the idea on testing the graphite conductivity, more conductive better plating?
@cosmicbob38745 жыл бұрын
more conductive faster plating
@nashton99645 жыл бұрын
yeah, it allows the process to happen faster and there are more nucleation points for copper to attach to

General's disappeared from Blick now. Great, now what.... what's a good alternative?
