There is a major flaw in this thinking, the Bible says that Paul taught & preached to the Gentiles. As a preacher Rob missed the boat on this topic. Let us see exactly what the Bible says, not Rob. (2 Timothy 1:10-11) But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the GENTILES. (Not the Jews). Paul also taught the Gentiles to keep God’s Sabbaths. Paul kept the Sabbath because his life was dedicated to following Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). (Acts 13:42-44) And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. (Acts 18:4) And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. (Acts 17:2) And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Shalom my friend.

@@SouthernGardensHomestead @Donald Brown @Donald Brown he reasoned in the synagogue on the sabbath because that is where the people were that were used to keeping the first covenant made only to the Jews. You do not understand. He didn't say you must keep the sabbath in any of the scriptures you mention. Do you condemn Jesus? Do you stand by like the religious leaders of that time waiting to wag your finger about the sabbath? Jesus was condemned by these leaders for "breaking the Sabbath" by healing on that day. You are no different. You stand here condemning Jesus himself! You are without understanding, but I write this to you to help you. Does His word profit you? Do you enter His rest? @@SouthernGardensHomestead What is preached to the Jews and the Gentiles about the resurrected Christ is the same. The Gospel is the same to all nations. Mixing the New Covenant (eternal substance) with the Old Covenant (temporary shadow) makes no sense. Furthermore, the context in Colossians is not about who is Paul preaching to (e.g. Jews or Gentiles), the context is about believers that should not listen to the Judaizers. Why did Paul observe Jewish traditions? To paraphrase Paul, "I became like a Jew to win Jews to Christ. I became like a Gentile to win Gentiles to Christ".
@SouthernGardensHomestead Жыл бұрын
@@realmichaelbloomfield actually Paul never became a Gentile (Philippians 3:4-5) and there is no verses saying any such. But, Paul did relate with the Jews and Gentiles, To say Paul became a Gentile would be the same as calling Jesus a sinner (Mark 2:15-17) just because He also related with sinners and spent time with them does not mean Jesus was a sinner, just as you are relating Paul with becoming a Gentile. Because Paul understood how to converse with Gentiles, to help them understand the plan of Salvation.

Your idea of Paul’s use of tradition and unity is explicitly stated by him in I Cor 9:20-22, _To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. The shadows were that people telling you have to keep these tradition as part of the new covenant to be saved in the new covenant. Jesus said though that through his blood through faith is what saves, keeping these things of old covenant doesn't. Jesus said these thing have passed after they are fulfilled. If someone stumbles because they see you not keeping them , Jesus said they are judging you falsely. Paul even said If they are you are being judged you need to talk it out and explain why. They were always trying fault with Jesus not keeping their law of the Sabbath. He always told them why he did what did. A person who is weak in the flesh always tries to find an excuse as to why someone is not doing what the law says. We are not under those laws to keep them. According to what God said he give us new spirit, and we won't have a weakness for those old laws. They won't let those little faults make them stumble. Some want to base their faith in Christ on how another person's life , you can't do that.

For receiving honor and glory from God the Father such a voice being borne to Him from the magnificent glory, "This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I was well pleased," Psa. 2:7; Gen. 22:2; Isa. 42:1; Matt. 17:5 even we heard this voice being borne out of Heaven, being with Him in the holy mountain,” (2Pe 1:16-18, LITV) According to the gospels, Paul wasn't there. He wasn't an eye witness. This whole epistle is against Paul and his gospel. But the even more nefarious thing from the NT is the whole idea that human sacrifice pleases Yah. “They have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I never commanded nor spoke, nor did it come into My heart.” (Jer 19:5, LITV) That drinking blood pleases Yah. “For it is the life of all flesh; its blood is for its life. And I say to the sons of Israel You shall not eat blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is in the blood; anyone eating it is cut off.” (Lev 17:14, LITV) The entire NT is disconnected from Yah and His torah. And how many have you led on this Day over the years? You must have quite a long list if Paul's example for us in the Scripturescis indeed about evangelism and not celebration. If it was just about leading people to Christ, why was he making such a fuss to get to Jerusalem in time, when he could have evangelised where he was, seeing, as you inform us, that he was under no requirement? Funny, all Jews treat the pilgrim feasts to Jerusalem as mandatory, which was why so many were gathered in Jerusalem on the Feast of Pentecost. If the believing Jews, such as Peter, had have stayed away from the Feast of Pentecost (or Shavuot, the Feast of Week, 7 weeks after Passover) in Jerusalem because they were NO LONGER REQUIRED (after the crucifixion and resurrection), then the Holy Spirit would not have fallen on the disciples' heads, as they would not be there, but all doing their own thing "in the freedom of Christ"! ORDINANCES Paul was an old testament scholar from boyhood and would have been well familiar with the below passages and the "ordinances" which were attached to them, all of which regard all the things Paul said not to accept Judgment for.. The NKJV translates "grain" instead of "meat" in all of these Old Testament offerings, and from here on we will refer to it as a grain offering rather than a meat offering. Colossians 2:14-17 is used by some to say that when Jesus died on the cross he nailed the ordinances, such as keeping the Sabbath day, to the cross, so that we do not have to keep it any more. The key verse in this scripture is verse 16, where 5 things are mentioned: meat, drink, a feast, a new moon, and a Sabbath. Whenever we get things mentioned together like these, and we wish to know what Paul is talking about, it is wise to consider where he gets them from. Remember that the bible for the early church was the Old Testament scriptures, so this is the obvious place to look. (Nehemiah 10:32-33) "Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God; For the showbread, and for the continual grain offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the Sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God." (1 Chronicles 23:31) "And to offer all burnt sacrifices to Yahweh in the Sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded to them, continually before Yahweh." (2 Chronicles 2:4) "Behold, I build an house to the name of Yahweh my God, ... for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of Yahweh our God." (2 Chronicles 31:3) "He appointed also ... the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of Yahweh." (Nehemiah 10:33) "For the showbread, and for the continual grain offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the Sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God." (Ezekiel 46:4-6) "And the burnt offering that the prince shall offer to Yahweh in the Sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish. And the grain offering shall be an ephah for a ram, and the grain offering for the lambs as he shall be able to give, and a hin of oil to an ephah. And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without blemish." Paul was referring to these Old Testament daily sacrifices in Colossians 2:16, but as is common in New Testament Greek there is a word missing (See: Find the Missing Words) in this quotation. It should read like this. (Colossians 2:16) "Therefore, do not let anyone judge you in grain or drink offerings," Just as the words "grain" and "drink" were referring to sacrifice offerings made on certain days, even so, looking at the above scriptures, it becomes obvious that the words "feast", "new moon", and "Sabbath" always come together when referring to offerings made on those days. Paul knew these scriptures, and he was referring to these offerings in Colossians 2:16, but as is habitual with New Testament Greek, he missed out a word: "offerings". This would not confuse the readers in those days, because the Old Testament was their bible, and they would know to look there to see what Paul was writing about, but it has allowed many to misinterpret what Paul was saying here. So what "handwriting of ordinances" did Jesus blot out, "nailing it to his cross;" (Colossians 2:14)? We might argue that it couldn't refer to the ten commandments, because they were initially written by "the finger of God" (Exodus 31:18), not mans hand, and therefore they endure for ever (Psalm 89:34; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35; 1 Peter 1:25). The "law of commandments" referred to here is called a "law of carnal commandment" (Hebrews 7:16), and the "ordinances" referred to are called "carnal ordinances": They are the ordinances to do with these sacrifices, some of which were man made. God bless you all!
@dahokage1043 Жыл бұрын

I think the important distinction is to know whether one is keeping the law for righteousness sake or as a matter of preference. If a person claims to be Christian but is keeping the Mosaic Law to be kept right before God, I question their sincere and true salvation through Christ. It is concerning to me, so as I see it, that is the crux of the issue. Are they keeping the law for righteousness’ sake or out of love and gratitude.
@JohnRobinson-qo7qb2 жыл бұрын
I think we all agree that the context of Col. 2 is traditions of men. There certainly were a lot of traditions of men intertwined with the truth. Col. 2:17 in the KJV says “the body is of Christ” but the word “is” is not in the Greek. Leaving “the body of Christ” which is a oft used phrase in the NT which of course is referring to the body of believers. In 1 Cor. 5:12 Paul mentions that saints are obligated to judge those within the body. If we’re going to judge righteous judgement we’ll need to prayerfully defer to the law and the prophets which Yeshua told us to do and teach. “Sabbaths new moons and feasts” is a common phrase mentioned in the Tanak. And we may all agree that the body of Messiah should be trusted instead of traditions of men but the nature of a blind spot is that we can’t see it.

119 Ministries does make a compelling argument that it was ascetic Gnostics (who worship angels) who were criticizing believers for keeping these Torah laws. I'm surprised you didn't address or try to refute that. Also, the fall feasts have not yet been fulfilled; they are shadows of things to come: 2nd coming, judgment, 8th day Millennium of rest. Would you please make an attempt to explain away those arguments? Thanks very much for your work. It's helping me come out of Torahism!

You gave 2 reasons why Paul kept Jewish traditions. Both are compelling. Here’s a 3rd to consider: Paul had such passion to see his fellow Jews come to know Yeshua as mashiach that he would go to where he knew they would be gathered in order to preach and reason with a larger, more concentrated, number of his countrymen. The opportunities for sharing the gospel would increase exponentially! This would line up with statements Paul made in other letters.

Rob...I guess we'll continue to disagree? You state that Paul doesn't specify the false teaching. Yet, I find ample evidence from my KJV of just what the issue is...TRADITION OF MEN / Oral Law? My analysis of the chapter, below: 4 And this I say, lest ANY MAN should beguile you with enticing words. [Note that the ANY MAN subject is picked up again in v16….”Let NO MAN therefore…”] 8 Beware lest ANY MAN spoil you through PHILOSOPHY and VAIN DECEIT, after the TRADITION OF MEN, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. [2 Why do thy disciples transgress the TRADITION OF THE ELDERS? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the COMMANDMENT OF GOD by your TRADITION? 9 But in VAIN they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the COMMANDMENTS OF MEN. (Mt 15:2,3,9)] [So, the subject of verses 4 and 8 is the TRADITION OF MEN (Oral Law) which Messiah Yeshua has already condemned as VAIN WORSHIP in opposition to the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD in Mt 15.] 10 And ye are COMPLETE in him, which is the head of all principality and power: [G4137, plero-o, from G4134; to make replete, to cram, level up, furnish, execute, COMPLETE, FULFILL,…etc. This verse paired with Mt 5:17-19…FULFILL… reveals that Messiah Yeshua doesn’t do ALL the Law for the believer, but rather, takes the penalty for the transgression of those points of the Law that cannot be carried out today since there is no priesthood or altar. He COMPLETES or COMPLIMENTS our Torah pursuance. Thus, the believer is still responsible to carry out those points of the Law that can be carried out today.] 11 In whom also ye are CIRCUMCISED with the CIRCUMCISION made without hands (circumcision of the heart), in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST: [Notice that the CIRCUMCISION MADE WITHOUT HANDS / CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST refers to the action of the Holy Spirit to write God’s Commandments (Torah / Law) on our hearts when we put our faith and trust in Messiah Yeshua according to the New Covenant (Jer 31:31-33 / Heb 8:8-10).] [51 Ye stiffnecked and UNCIRCUMCISED IN HEART and ears, ye do always RESIST THE HOLY GHOST: as your fathers did, so do ye. 53 Who HAVE RECEIVED THE LAW by the disposition of angels, and HAVE NOT KEPT IT. (Acts 7:51,53)] 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the UNCIRCUMCISION OF YOUR FLESH, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all TRESPASSES; [Notice that the UNCIRCUMCISION OF YOUR FLESH is still considered a sin / trespass but Messiah atones for the omission of the eighth day Torah requirement.] 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, NAILING IT TO HIS CROSS; [The Judaizers were foisting Oral Law on the newbie believers (central point of Galatians)…NOT Torah Law. This, and other points of Torah infraction…SIN..., are what’s NAILED TO HIS CROSS. Notice that ORDINANCES are associated with the DOCTRINES AND COMMANDMENTS OF MEN (Oral Law) in verses 20 through 22, coming up.] 15 And having spoiled PRINCIPALITIES and POWERS, he made a shew of THEM openly, triumphing over THEM in it. [THEM…those of the Pharisees and scribes pushing Oral Law. Oral Law prohibited Jews from associating with gentiles. By restoring the original intent of the Torah He brought Jew and gentile together under one system of governance (Eph 2:14-16).] [28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an UNLAWFUL THING (Oral Law) FOR A MAN THAT IS A JEW TO KEEP COMPANY, OR COME UNTO ONE OF ANOTHER NATION; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. (Acts 10:28)] 16 Let NO MAN therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: [NO MAN harkens back to ANY MAN in verses 4 and 8 and references the proponents of Oral Law. The Holy Days / new moons / Sabbaths are a picture of prophetic things to come…why would we not want to acknowledge them?] 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the BODY “IS” OF CHRIST. [The word, “IS”, is NOT present in the Greek. The phrase literally reads, “but the BODY OF CHRIST”, meaning the congregation or church (which was Torah pursuant at the time) is to JUDGE based on Torah instead of Oral Law.] [11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the SAINTS (Rev 14:12), for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the BODY OF CHRIST: (Eph 4:11,12)] [12 Here is the patience of the SAINTS: here are THEY THAT KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD (Torah), and the faith of Jesus. (Rev 14:12)] [15 YE SHALL DO NO UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IN JUDGMENT: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but IN RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALT THOU JUDGE THY NEIGHBOR. 16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the Lord. 17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise REBUKE THY NEIGHBOR, AND NOT SUFFER SIN UPON HIM. 18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF: I am the Lord. (Lev 19:15-18)] [NT judgment procedure: Mt 18:15-17] 20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the RUDIMENTS OF THE WORLD, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ORDINANCES, 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the COMMANDMENTS AND DOCTRINES OF MEN (Oral Law)? So, the whole chapter is dealing with Oral Law, NOT Torah Law and thus, contrary to normative Christianity, Colossians 2 does NOT teach against pursuit of Torah. Shalom

Hi, Henry. Yeah, I guess we will have to continue to disagree. Because if Paul was speaking against the Oral Torah, his entire argument would be leveled at Jews, since they are the only faction who would have been promoting the Oral Law. However, Paul's warning in this chapter is aimed at a group of seemingly gnostic teachers whose doctrines were a strange mixture of Oriental mysticism, Jewish legalism, and a smattering of philosophy and Christian teaching. @judemichaelvelez6789 : Apply the New Testament verse in Colossians 2:16 which warns all Christians not to judge ANYONE if they eat only clean animals, refuse un-Biblical teetotalism when it comes to drinking wine; if they keep the Biblical festivals, such as Passover, the Day He died to ensure salvation; if they keep the Biblical NEW MOONS as listed, the 30-day lunar months or "moonths" set in place by God and kept by Yeshua, and of course for resting on the Sabbath of the LORD, for which there is much Gentile opposition. What that verse does NOT say about judging is man-made "holy days" and calendars and counterfeit sabbaths not ordained or commanded by God, Yeshua, the apostles & disciples or the Jewish Church at its beginning in Jerusalem as they hadn't been invented yet! 🙃

A thought that just came to me from listening, because Paul went to the Synagogue, does that mean he kept the Sabbath? Just wondering, but with all his travels, it seems possible he might have violated the command/tradition not to walk more than 2000 cubits from his town on the Sabbath. But as we all know, Paul became all things to a men in order to win some. The Hebrew movement seems to spend a lot of time focusing on the when the word synagogue shows up in scripture to illistrate we are supposed to be following and learning the Mosaic Law. But I struggle with that idea since God knew that in a relatively short time that Christians and Jews would parts ways and Christians would no longer have the opportunity to attend synagogues. It seems we either were set up for failure (unril the Hebrew movement came along to enlighten us), or God didn't intend for the Christian church to be studying the Mosaic Law for the past 1600 years.

Hi Tony. Yes, it's highly likely that Paul, along with the rest of the Jewish followers of Jesus, continued to keep Saturday Sabbath. There was no reason for anyone to stop keeping it. What a lot of Hebrew Roots people don't seem to grasp is that Jesus the Christ (yes I said Jesus not Yeshua) is Christ is the Passover he is the Shabbat rest, and he is the very embodiment of what the feast pointed to and what they were symbol of. Another thing is Christ was born in the tribe of Judah in Bethlehem. Only Levites could be priests, therefore cording to Hebrews chapter 7 a change in the law had to be made. The law is now summed up into two different things, love your neighbor as yourself and love God above all. It's that simple.

Personally, i have been converted by 119's videos to the Hebrew Roots perspective, very similarly aligned with 119 Ministries. I'd like to share one point that i perceive contradicts your rebuttal in the first point. You shared that the commandments of the O.T. are permitted but not required. But when i ponder that for a bit, it seems to me this 'permitted but not required' perspective *is* counter to the Old Testament traditions and commandments. I mean the O.T. commandment is to stone a man who intentionally rebels against the commandments by picking up sticks on the Sabbath. I think your 'not required' perspective directly contradicts the traditions of Moses (the torah commandments). (shrug) Well, maybe you'll address this in another video. I'm sure i will find lots of quality content on your channel. I'm looking forward to watching more. Shalom!

Things like the kosher food restrictions, the feasts, weekly Shabbat, circumcision, etc. were holy commandments under the Sinai Covenant. Yahweh was very serious about those commands that He gave to Israel. However, because of the work of Jesus, many things have changed. And the NT teaches that some (not all) of the things that were mandatory under Moses are now optional under Jesus. They are "permitted but not required." Blessings, Rob

@JesusfreakkAlex2 ай бұрын
Let me pose a question to you. Why is it that you always focus on "permitted but not required"? God tells us that if we love Him we keep His commandments. I have noticed in your videos that you are wearing a wedding ring, so I make the assumption that you are married. In your marriage, are you debating everything with your wife what you are required to do? Or do you try to study her and if you even think by doing something that might make her happy you do it? For me love for God and love for a spouse is not different in that way that I am not seeking to do only things that are "required". For me that is a very strange way of showing my love for my partner. You state that is was written in his DNA, or you might say "written upon his heart". Let me give you the third argument as you actually given it yourself. You say that they have to stay in the faith, just as they were taught. So this was a new assembly, not from Jews. So the question is then, who taught them about the feasts and sabbaths? If Paul didn't teach them these principles, who did? Well, what does the bible tells us why we should keep the Feast? Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. And you shall tell your son in that day, saying, ‘This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ It shall be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Lord’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt. You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year. (Exodus 13:6-9) It is a sign that He has delivered us! This is a picture as well of the future, because if we have His sign we will be delivered from eternal death! (Revelation 16:2) So, first of all, in your argument it makes no sense where this assembly would have heard about this teaching, which Paul tells they were taught. Second of all, if this is a false teaching, then clearly we would not observe the sabbaths and new moons in the new kingdom, which is exactly what Ezekiel prophesied (Ezekiel 46:3). So let me ask you another question, if you walk in someone's shadow, are you far away from that person, or very close? And a shadow to come. Jesus died on Passover, resurrected on First Fruits and the Holy Spirit was poured out on Pentecost. So, if this all happened on the Feast days, what do you think will happen on the Feast days that are not fulfilled yet? Again, Acts 15 is actually quoting Leviticus 17-19, which you state are no longer required. Your argument contradicts your statement! Psalm 17: Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, It is a good thing to be in someone's shadow, this was understood in that time. Somehow now it is explained as something negative. Same as in every video the commandments are explained like a burden. It is the beginning of wisdom. Deuteronomy 4:6; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7;Ecclesastes 12:13 Did Jesus already show up? Yes, to show us how to live Torah. Is everything fulfilled yet? Are we living together with God in His Kingdom? No, so the commandments still stand. Is Jesus not coming back a second time? So, Hey church, you are by faith now become Israel, don't follow Gods commandments, and forget everything I have previously taught you. The scripture was also fulfilled by Abraham according to James 2:22-24. So why then Jesus came in the first place if Abraham already fulfilled the scripture? Or could it be that your explanation of fulfilled is not the right one? By living our lives in obedience we are pointing others to Christ. Is that not what we should achieve?
@sundownsam33692 жыл бұрын
Rob, let's see what Colossians 2:14-17 is saying. Verse 14, blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that were against us and which were contrary to us. What is he referring to? First, the word "ordinance" is an English translation, but according to the Greek, the word refers to "dogma," which is a set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true, something that is not able to be denied or disputed. Sometimes a permissive attitude towards a practice is given, but that does not mean that God commanded it. Let me give you an example: They said to Yeshua, why did Moses then command to give a written divorcement and to put her away? Yeshua responded, Moses permitted it because of the hardness of your hearts, but from the beginning it was not so. The curse of the law, the traditions of men, and what was permitted for tolerance, but God did not command, was taken out of the way and nailed to the cross. In addition, the commandments of God were not a burden, but the Pharisees made them a burden, and Yeshua pointed this out in what he said to them: you are following the tradition of men. Verse 16, let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days. This verse implies that they were observing God's law, and it does not imply the term you gave, "permitted but not required." The word "judge" in the Greek is making a statement, to not give an opinion concerning right or wrong, because in the end, God will do the judging. No different than today, those Gentile believers who are observing God's law are being judged by Christian believers. It is safe to phrase it this way so that one can understand what is being said. Speaking to Gentile believers who follow God's law: let no one judge you for what you are doing, whether it is what food you eat and abstain from, or the festivals you observe, or the new moon, or the Sabbath day; what you are doing is a shadow of things to come. God will judge them. Your "permitted but not required" statement is an opinion you are giving. If God was clear when he first spoke, and if he was, there could not be any room for opinions. How can God give a law and then change it? He won't. He does not alter what proceeds from his lips. It is safe to phrase it this way so that one can understand Psalms 89:34; God is saying, I will say it once and will not repeat it again, so that one can understand that I do not modify my words. I am responding to your video to point out what the Scriptures says.
@TheBiblicalRoots2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam! You said that verse 16, "implies that they were observing God's law," but that is an opinion you're giving. I mention that because you're fond of rejecting my statements as mere opinion, yet you don't seem to realize your own statements include the same. There is nothing wrong with two guys sharing their opinions on Scripture! Also, notice how Jesus' words about divorce reveal that the Law of Moses was not God's ultimate ideal. The Law of Moses included commands that were (a.) a compromise because of the hardness of man's hearts, and (b.) not the way God intended things to be from the beginning. Shalom, Rob
@sundownsam33692 жыл бұрын
Verse 16 is not an opinion because verse 14 is pointing to the ordinances of man and not the law, making it clear what was nailed to the cross. Again, in verse 16, the believers are informed to let no one judge them in meat, or in drink, or in regard to a holiday, or the new moon, or the Sabbath days, which makes it clear that the believers were observing God's law. Tell me, who was the Apostle Paul talking to? What did he tell them? Who is the Apostle Paul referring to that appears to be judging? Your statement about "how Yeshua' words about divorce reveal that the Law of Moses was not God's ultimate ideal" has no ground because Yeshua made it clear what Moses gave not what God gave; God gave the law, Moses gave a condition do to the hardening of their hearts. By the way, I am not posting to reject your statements, I post according to what God made clear when he first spoke.

@@TheBiblicalRoots so did he abolish the law? does fulfill = abolish? please clarify. it is abolished or not?
@TheBiblicalRoots3 жыл бұрын
@@disciplemike1 Hi, Mike. The Law was not abolished and here’s why I say that: The Law of Moses was given as the legal terms of the Sinai Covenant (contract). God told Israel, “keep these laws and you will be blessed (Lev 26:1-13; Deut 28:1-14), break them and you will be cursed (Lev 26:14-39; Deut 28:15-68).” Israel said, “We will keep them! (Ex 19:8, 24:3-7).” And then they went and broke the terms many times (Hosea 6:7, Jer 31:31-34). This is why God promised the New Covenant and sent His Son to inaugurate it. When Jesus came he had two options: he could abolish the Sinai contract, voiding out all the blessings it contained, OR he could fulfill the contract on Israel’s behalf and secure the blessings despite their disobedience. Jesus chose to fulfill it. This is why He was born as a Jewish man in Israel under the Law (Gal 4:4). This gave Him the legal standing to fulfill the Sinai covenant on Israel’s behalf, which He did through his perfect life and death on the cross (1 Pet 1:19, Heb 10:10). That covenant was fulfilled (satisfied, completed) and has now passed away (Heb 8:13). Jesus is our new High Priest and with a change in the priesthood comes a change in the law (Heb 7:12). An example of fulfilling the terms of a contract is your home mortgage. That contract is “fulfilled” once you’ve made your last payment. Keeping the Law of Moses today is like continuing to send money to the mortgage company after your house is paid off. We are now under the New Covenant Jesus inaugurated (Luke 22:20).

If you want the shadow, sure, but don't twist clear verses to make it say something else, and don't tell everyone else that they must want the shadow too.

I often wondered why they call it a shadow? A shadow doesn't give clear image. Moses only saw the back side of God , not the shadow. The only thing that was the shadow was the covenant made for them . That is what they have the problem with. In Isaiah 1 he told them he was tired on of their false worship and assemblies of worship. He wanted them to worship him with a true worship and honesty.
@scented-leafpelargonium3366 Жыл бұрын
@shellyblanchard5788 : A shadow is not negative. It is simply a silhouette that goes before a real thing. Paul says we see through a glass darkly. Just because it is not fully represented does not mean that it is false. Those things will still exist as the verse describes them as "things to come", not things ended or cancelled out as many people take this verse to mean. Isaiah 66:22-23 shows us this when the LORD Himself says of the new heavens and new earth (in the future, or "to come") that He shall make in a more perfect future state: " 'And it shall come to pass that from one NEW MOON to another, and from one SABBATH to another, ALL FLESH shall come to worship before Me,' says the LORD." Sin is a transgression of the law, not just of something WE feel right or wrong about. Such transgression is mentioned in the next verse (Isaiah 66:24) in gory detail: "And they shall go forth and look upon the corpses of men who have TRANGRESSED against ME!" It says, "They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh." That's the FUTURE!!! 🤯 You can argue about "shadows" in order to avoid the commandments of God and to uphold deriding His holy Sabbath and Passover, but these things are still to come ahead. If the things ordained by God and kept by Yeshua are only negative "shadows" as understood by most Gentiles within the Non-Hebrew Roots Movement within Christendom, then what will the man-made things be, such as the Mass of Christ ("Christ-Mass"), "Easter," named after the spring goddess Eostre/Eastre, fasting on "Lent" and other such inventions? Are they "shadows" too, or are they in reality not ordained by God at all, but are ADDED ON, just like the Pharisees did, whose man-made TRADITIONS Yeshua said made the Word of God of none-effect? It's easy to condemn as negative "shadows," but the Scriptures clearly point out that Christ is the very substance of these things, for He ordained and kept them. The replacement of them by other "holy days" is the height of insult to God's celebrations. This is why the devil wants to see them cancelled out and forgotten for each one of them is intrinsically linked to Messiah, past and still to come, as they celebrate His whole ministry. They also foretell his return and redemption of Israel, but the Church is blind to this, and will have more focus on Xmas Trees, feasting on unclean animals and ignoring His Sabbath. Yeshua will not be returning on "Christ-Mass Day" no matter how many celebrate it. These things distract the Church into self-indulgence and takes the eyes of the believers off imminent prophecy in their comfortable bubble of enjoying what THEY prefer to do. 🤯 This is all very tragic and sad, but who will listen? Instead they judge you as a heretic! 🥶

If we remember the parable that Jesus told about the sower you will understand why some people have weakness for old covenant. The people receive it with a certain length of time , but then it wither away if it is on infertile and weakened by tribulation. They turn back to the weak and beggerly elements of the law for security. They think they need to keep certain days to have favor with God. Paul talked about this. That is why Jesus said judge not least you be judge. Someone is always wanting to be as holy as they claim to be by keeping certain days. Paul told us we that shouldn't fuss over things in the law because it doesn't profit anything. Our faith in Christ is what profits.

@TheBiblicalRoots2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Anthony. You make a great point and I appreciate the opportunity to clarify. The Bible nowhere directly states these Mosaic traditions are “permitted but not required" under the New Covenant. But it does, as a whole, _teach_ this idea. The NT states in many places that some of the commandments given under the Law of Moses are no longer in effect (e.g., Mark 7:19; Acts 15:1-29; Col 2:16-17; Eph 2:11-22; Heb 7 and 10, etc.) And we're explicitly told that the Sinai Covenant under which they were given is no longer in effect (Heb 8:13). At the same time, the NT never teaches that these things have been forbidden. In fact, we see the apostles and disciples still observing some of them. And in several places (such as Romans 14:1-15:13) we're taught those things are a matter of personal conscience or conviction and that we are not to judge others over it (Rom 14:3-4). Therefore, I've come to use the phrase “permitted but not required" as a summary of the above NT teachings. Blessings, Rob

But wouldn’t you agree, that these things contain a shadow STILL of Jesus’ 2nd coming? Not ALL of what Jesus is to do, is done. Not everything is yet fulfilled. I LOVE still celebrating the festivals in a NON-“traditional” manor, because they EACH point, not only to his first coming in the past, but in a shadowy way, still point to his future coming! (So excited! 😃) I love the word-pic you painted. Just as “shadows” happened before Jesus’ 1st coming, we now can see the shadow of His 2nd coming in the Feasts and Festivals, but the real thing (substance) will happen when He finally, literally, shows up once again, and fulfills ALL prophecy! I totally agree: Celebrating the shadows “are permitted, but not required.” I would add, though, that God really does STILL show up in supernatural ways on His appointed days, to meet with anyone who will, by faith, recognize that He wants to still meet with us then! I’m am continually amazed at the specific spiritual insight that is given as I study my Bible on those days, and the cool things that happen through out the day, specific to my life, that only God knows about. He makes it clear that He’s showing up to celebrate WITH me on His holidays! So cool!! I can’t wait to REALLY celebrate with Him at His return, and then for eternity 😌!

The conclusion that Paul was teaching these laws were shadows to come but still keep them is very interesting. How could they be a shadow when HRM would say the sabbath is eternal example this would be like saying don't murder bc its a shadow of things to come, but murder is a commandment that is always enforced that argument would not make the most sense. He also says (to come) the sabbath wouldn't be (to come) but rather now in the present tense that Paul was writing if he was advocating obedience to sabbath. A very critical text over looked is Hebrews 10;1 For the law having a (shadow of good things to come), and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. The author is teaching in Hebrews and uses a very similar argument in Colossians 2 that the law does have a shadow of good things to come (things as in plural) and he uses the animal sacrifices to be a shadow of Jesus atonement on the cross.

Thanks, Maxx! Notice that only _parts_ of the Law of Moses are called a "shadow of things to come," not the whole law. Commandments dealing with issues of objective morality (such as murder and adultery) are never spoken of this way. As you pointed out, the "shadows" include laws about food and drink, festivals, new moons, Sabbath, (Col 2:16-17). Also labeled "shadows" are the Levitical priesthood, the temple, the sacrifices (Heb 8:5, 10:1).

@@TheBiblicalRoots Since the levitical priesthood, the temple and the sacrifices are a "shadow of things to come" (agreed!), do the levitical tithes commanded in the Law of Moses fall in this bucket of "shadow of things to come"? The levitical tithes are integrated with the levitical priesthood, the temple and the sacrifices. The levitical tithes are a "shadow of things to come" and they passed away when Christ cut his blood on the New Covenant and with the utter destruction of the temple in 70 AD.

I agree with much of what you say but I think you are missing that the seventh day sabbath is part of the moral law. It marks your worship of the creator and is a sign for all future generations. The Ten Commandments are not a shadow of things to come but rather the standard of loving God and others. There were other sabbath days and festivals that were a shadow of things to come.
@stephenrichardson3549 Жыл бұрын
Hello Crystal, I firmly believe with all my heart that all the sabbaths were a shadow of things to come, the substance of which is Christ. All is about Him and for Him and found in Him. He is the Sabbath. He is my Sabbath. When He dwells in me the Sabbath, His Sabbath, is then mine. The shadow is not the thing itself but something that is a place holder of something better. When He takes up residence in me then I am in Him and His rest is made complete in me thus taking the place of the shadow. In this sense, His fulfillment of Sabbath is also for me and in me and with me. Not keeping the day is not law breaking because the day is a shadow of a greater work that He writes on our hearts as a result of His very presence and the focus is always only Jesus not the worship of the law. Each of the ten commandments becomes in us what it was intended to be when He moves in and establishes His fulfilling presence in us. He is the writing on our hearts.

This is what most of the responders here believe. I firmly believe this point of view is heretical. It only exists to bring division among the believers.

Hey, Indo. Hebrews was written in AD 63 or 64. And just a few years later, in AD 70, the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and has never been rebuilt. Ever since that event, Jews have not been able to keep any of the laws related to priests, sacrifices, and temple ceremonies. The Levitical priesthood is gone. The old covenant has vanished. And Jesus was the mediator of the New Covenant (Heb 9:15, 12:24). It began at the shedding of His blood the day He was crucified: "In the same way also [Jesus] took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.'" (1 Cor 11:25, see also Luke 22:20).

If you read the passage the way it would read now days it would say : let no one tell you you have to keep old covenant laws to be saved because they profit nothing, only faith in Christ is what saves because of the blood he shed. The way it is said they twist it their own to make it sound like we have to keep these. Jesus said though once they are fulfilled it would pass. Most though doesn't want to accept that. I don't think most have read what God said about the new covenant he would make. It wouldn't the same he made with their fathers. They want to say that he writes the Torah on their heart. If it was it wouldn't be different. Jesus said though it would pass once it is fulfilled. So it won't be the Torah, or the Sabbath covenant, but different.

This is unfortunate, Brother. In this specific case, theirs is the closer interpretation, and this discussion wrongly frames what was being taught by Paul, and what is yet to be held "in practice" in the Ekklesia/Kahal of God (the Body of Christ). Anything that is yet a shadow that points to future events/fulfillment, still "stands" (for not one jot or tittle will be removed until all is fulfilled). What is fulfilled (sacrifices, dietary laws. temple service commandments, etc.) is "done away with", but Jesus, Himself clarified Shabbat and other commandments (for example, expanding our understanding of "do not murder" and "do not commit adultery" to go above a beyond "the righteousness of the pharisees"), but He did not say "you shall no longer keep Shabbat" or "its now ok to murder" (of course, that would be silly). He was warning against judaizers, gnosticism. traditions of the Pharisees (including kabbalistic practices/mysticism), and stating clearly that they should not let "the rulers"/"elders" (of judaism) attempt to say they had to follow those things. This matters--mostly as it pertains to Shabbat (for the Church yet follows the other 9 "Words" of the Covenant, written on our hearts). Yes, this "ministry" goes too far in other teachings, but not here. shalom
@TheBiblicalRoots3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Suzan. Great comments! You are, of course, correct that Jesus did not say "you shall no longer keep Shabbat." But He also (surprisingly) stops short of repeating or endorsing the Sabbath command. In fact, in every passage where Jesus teaches about the Sabbath, He is clashing with Jewish leaders over it. Interestingly, the NT specifically repeats and endorses the commandment not to murder (Matt 19:18; Luke 18:20; Rom 13:9, etc.), as well as the other commandments from "the big 10." Except the Sabbath. The NT does not teach or repeat the 4th commandment about keeping, remembering, or observing the Sabbath or about keeping it holy. I find this a telling fact. It was certainly not excluded from reiteration accidentally. The Sabbath, at a minimum, takes on a new understanding in the New Testament. Perhaps there is a transcendent “essence” of Sabbath intended in Scripture, the idea of resting in God at regular intervals as a gift or blessing given by God. But it seems to me that the Saturday Sabbath required of Israel under the Law of Moses is not required of followers of Jesus under the New Covenant. And Col 2:16-17 is one of the passages I would point to as evidence of this.
@suzanholland3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBiblicalRoots Appreciate you taking the time to reply. I would ask us to consider that Jesus very much speaks about the Sabbath (as you point out), so to suggest that the command is not "reiterated" is, it would seem, not exactly the case. He spends a great deal of time correcting their understanding/practice of Shabbat, but not once says its no more. In facts, He says otherwise in affirming that "not one jot or tittle..." In His actions and discussions on/about Shabbat He was getting back to the heart of the matter (actually on all of the 10--for example, with His "you have heard it said...but I say" recalibrations), and creation itself (as well as time-keeping) it tied to Shabbat. Furthermore, as a shadow (for "there remains a sabbath rest for the People of God), it stands, and we see that Shabbat will be kept during the Millennium. Etched in stone (permanent), and now written on our hearts, the 10 "words" remain our "wedding vows" to God. When the end-times forerunner comes, those who guard Shabbat (in various traditions) will be vindicated on this issue. Interesting that the verse directly ahead of the promise to "send Elijah BEFORE the great and terrible Day of YHVH" reads: "Remember the Law of Moses, My servant." selah and shalom

@@suzanholland I hear you, Suzan. Jesus does indeed speak about the Sabbath. And I have a lot to learn about what exactly the NT is teaching us about the Sabbath. There are a few facts we can glean from the text. One of them is that what Jesus is recorded as saying about the Sabbath (indeed, what the NT as a whole says about it) does not amount to a repeating, reiterating, or endorsing of the Mosaic commandments about keeping, remembering, or observing the Sabbath or about keeping it holy. And Jesus does not address the Sabbath in his "you have heard it said...but I say" recalibrations. The other nine words are clearly repeated or endorsed throughout the NT, but not the Sabbath. The Sabbath is spoken of differently. I'm not sure exactly why this is, but I think we have to assume it's significant and intentional.
@suzanholland3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBiblicalRoots Thank you again, Brother. I think you are, perhaps, missing my point, however, as you state again that the Sabbath is not endorsed. Not sure how you can make that claim given what we do have, including His addressing it so often to clarify--not with the specific formula of "you have heard it said, but I say", but certainly with "did not David" and "is it not Written" sorts of statements that serve the same purpose--to confirm that the 10 are, indeed, the Covenant, and to "recalibrate" HOW they were applying them back to His original intent. In addition, the fact that it remains a shadow means that it is not "done away with" and yet "stands"..."until heaven and earth pass away". He is "the Lord of the Sabbath" and has included our setting aside that day--resting on it and keeping it holy, as part of the "loving Him" set of commandments. There is great wonder, promise and responsibility in this. "If we love Him, we will keep His comandments." There is great benefit for us in this, and great joy!!! May we seek to honor Him in all things. Obedience is not optional, and intimacy in relationship a HUGE benefit for all who obey. shalom

@@suzanholland Thanks, Suzan! I believe I am following what you are saying. Which is that Jesus' teachings about the Sabbath were intended to clear away the man-made additions and restore our understanding to the original intent of the Sabbath. This is why we see Him correcting people about what kinds of activities are allowed on the Sabbath. You are suggesting that Jesus' attempts to offer clarity on the Sabbath should be seen as an endorsement of the Sabbath. Did I get that right? If so, I agree with you. To a point. I am not claiming that the Sabbath has been done away with. Just that something has changed between the OT and NT. The Torah (in fact, the entire OT) takes the Sabbath very seriously. There is strong, prescriptive teaching about the importance of keeping the Sabbath holy and set apart. In addition to it being the fourth of the Ten Commandments, we repeatedly see phrases like “remember the Sabbath,” “observe my Sabbaths,” and “keep my Sabbath Holy.” The Sabbath is taken so seriously that the death penalty is prescribed for desecrating it. Many ceremonial dates and practices are tied to the six-to-one ratio of the Sabbath: work six days, rest for one, sow your fields for six years, let the field rest for one, and so on. In the OT, we get a strong sense of how the Sabbath drove the national rhythm of Israel. And then we get to the New Testament and everything changes. Dramatically. The prescriptive teachings about the Sabbath which were consistently repeated in the OT-keep it holy, do no work, carry no load, make your offerings, do not desecrate it, etc.-are nowhere to be found. Yet, the other nine commandments are clearly taught and even repeated verbatim. But not the Sabbath. At least not as it was given as part of the Ten. The Sabbath still exists, but not as it was given in the Mosaic Law. It has changed. If the Sabbath (as it was given in the Law) still remains "until heaven and earth pass away," then so do the other 612 commandments given in the Law, right? Wouldn't we still be required to keep the dietary laws, business practices, criminal laws, agricultural laws, feasts, blood sacrifices, offerings, Levitical priesthood, feasts, execution of adulterers, and so on?

Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses), or for certain times (ex. building an ark, gathering manna) and we're each only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. And the ceremonial Mosaic commands do not apply to Christians today. (ex. Repeated blood sacrifices for sin are no longer required.) “But now we are released from the law, having died with Christ to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6). Not Jewish Feast, but God’s Feast. (Mark 2:27-28) And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. The sabbath was made for ALL mankind not just Jews. (Isaiah 66:22-24) For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. Rob, check out Hebrew Roots in Shallow Soil. The series on Redeemed or Forgiven? is especially useful. The error of the entire HRM is the concept of original sin and the sinful nature inherited by Adam. Along with original sin is God's plan of redemption of Christ on the Cross. The reason behind the HRM making the Law of Moses the end-all-be-all.........is because they are in opposition to the Cross. The " gospel of Moses", and not the Gospel of Christ. In replies from HRMers, I am constantly told the Cross of Christ didn't change anything. The resurrection didn't change anything. @@TheBiblicalRoots Thanks for that reply, Rob. It might sound funny, but it helps that someone else confirms this is off-the-wall.

@@TheBiblicalRoots Rob, Have you done a DNA test? Even though, like you, I have brown wavy hair, brown eyes, a big nose, and my mother’s maiden name is Elias (Greek form of Elijah-Hebrew), I was told I was Dutch and English. Turns out, DNA says indeed my dad is part Ashkenazi from Spain to Netherlands and England, and my mom’s side shows a gradual migration from northern Israel/Middle East, all the way through Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany, all the way up to England. You may have Hebrew roots, like me, even though we are considered Gentiles! We may be a part of the lost tribes of Israel. I’m just glad we, as believers in Jesus, are TRUE Jews/Israel. ✡️💟✝️💟✡️

You sir, are deceiving the people through your false doctrine. Let's start with Paul's intoduction to his letters where he addresses the Saints of God. In which is described in Revelation 14:12. The law that was done away with was the law of animal sacrifice. You sir must study the the religious atmosphere in Colosse. In Colosse there was the the drinking of blood, mystical worship to other gods. The Gentiles there desired to keep God's laws, commandments, sabbaths & feast days. Paul warped them not to let any one change them.

Yah, I see how that maybe you could read it that way but there is no indication in these verses to support your view. It just is not there.

Judge not, for in how you judge others you WILL be judged. All of orthodox Christianity believes what he is teaching. This is a no brainer. But he does not judge you nor would he because the command to judge not is one of the very commands to come direct from the mouth of Jesus. I will however judge you because I grew up in the HR cult from which my lord Jesus delivered me and I have to say, the deceiver dwells with you.
