Allen, try reducing the FO load to 8% or 9% and let the candle cure longer. This might help reduce the soot and flame height. Try blending SP487 with Coco Creme using a 8 or 9% FO load and .75 booster wick. I was going to use wooden wicks for my candles, but they are just too unpredictable. And I don't like how the chemical from the wood falls into the candle wax and turns it a tan or brown color. I love Makesy's cotton wicks though. Also Allen, on Makey's blog it says not to use the single ply wick alone. It is designed to use with a booster wick when using a high FO load and high levels of color dye. I wish Maksey would list information like this in the product description.

Thanks for your comment, English! I’ve definitely heard a lot of folks talk about fragrance load (and reducing if) helping with wooden wick performance. I’ve been working with SP487 recently as well-really interesting stuff!

I love, love, LOVE my wax! If I had begun this journey with this wax…….omg, I would have launched my LLC already! I know different chandlers mix their own waxes and I have done the same. But, when I can buy it, it sets perfectly, no issues ever and I’ve added nothing but FO?? It’s just made everything so much simpler! Mixing waxes just slows me down. This is only my opinion, but I would never suggest a new chandler use 464 or ANY other wax. Now that I also have wicked it, I am on the way! Thank you Allen! Much love to you and your family!

HI Allen, I gave up on Makesy's wooden wicks and waxes. After much experimentation, I am never disappointed with 16/17's Soy Bliss (now called #7) paired with CDN wicks. I really wanted the wooden wicks to work but they just didn't.

I did too it took me so long to lunch bc of the unpredictable ww and I shouldn’t get them to work in other vessels. I used the coco apricot in the 8.5 wt ww they recommend works perfect with there FO10% works great. Their 72 cotton wicks work well in the 12 ozs Aura dbl wick.

Hi Allen! Love your content and so happy to see this series with testing! I plan to do something similar at the end of Summer so ... stay tuned. hehe But to answer your question, I used Makesy's VCS wax and I would blend in 5-7% of a tart wax to help with burn stability. I got great results doing 7% A27 Tart Wax (All Seasons Wax Co) with 93% VCS and 9% FO in Makesy's 5oz tins using a .03/.375" x wick and also with their spiral wick (same wax/FO combos). I normally get about 1/8" hangup on the first burn but then full melt on the 2nd burn (burning the 5oz tins for 4 hour intervals). Also, all of my candles have mica powder mixed in (about 1/16 tsp by eyeball). It took a LOT of testing but I determined that the X wicks pretty much end up acting like a "double" wick so I'm still testing in the CS Libbey Tumblers (probably going to size down to a .02/.375" X wick in those). I would recommend going down to the .435" from the .5" wick for your vessels and possibly reducing the FO load as well. I want to showcase this on my channel via video b/c I think the wood wicks get a bad rep (I think mica gets a bad rep too) but I'm not set up for that yet (want a good camera setup so the experience is good). Excellent feedback though, as always! Love the vibe!!

Hi there! Thank you very much for your detailed comment. Incredible that you’ve got even the mica down to a science! That stuff definitely can help in my experience. I will most certainly take your suggestions into consideration. Love and light always💛🌱

Hi Allen, I just switched from 464 to coco83 and SP487… I’m at square one with testing wood wicks as well. None of my 3 wick series worked, so waiting for the 2s to arrive. I’m about to give up on wood wicks but people love them when I take to the market. But very unreliable… I’m torn! Thanks for making this video as I feel I’m not alone on this! 💟

Hi Everyone I have been trying Makesy wooden wicks for a few months and it is so frustrating that I had to take a break. I use Coconut Apricot, IGI 6006 and Problend 600 and I just can't get any of the woodwicks to marry any fragrance. Thanks again for all you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Joni! Thanks for sharing. They definitely can be a challenge with that consistency in my experience. Have ya given the single plys a try yet?

Hi Allen. Yes I hv. I believe the coconut apricot by itself is to soft. I just bought bees wax. Omg another wax. Is starting with10% of beeswax a good idea?

@joniperiu8308 hi Joni! I’d recommend a 1-3% as a starting place. A little bit goes a long ways!!

Thank you Allen, I love your review 🙂 I had 2 of their sample wax kits but I made wax melts with them☺️ Last week I used my last slab of Makesy Virgin wax. I've been using Freedom Coconut wax with good results. I'm going to try Give and honey wax next. Still the #7 is my go to wax. Thanks for sharing 💞 PeAcE

Great video. You just saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks Allen. So what wooden wick do you use with your 3" diameter vessels when using your own wax blend?
@earthglow Жыл бұрын
Glad to help! In those vessels, i use a .04 series 0.5" crackling booster with my blend! occasionally a 0.625" depending on the scent.

I couldn’t get Makesy’s waxes to work. They ALL produced entirely too much soot. My winning combo is Coco83 + 18% SP487 w 03 series whisper single ply wicks. Beautiful burn, great HT, and no sooting ever. I use 9-10% fragrance load.
@earthglow Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! single ply wicks, huh? Glad to hear you get a great ht! interesting that you don't use the crackling wicks. Do you find the whispers work better overall?

Their coconut soy wax gives a lot of black soot with wooden wick. I have tried all their wax and I’m not wowed by any. Black soots, hot and cold throw isssues. The worst is the hemp soy wax which is bad with hot throw all my clients complained of no hot throw and used I used 10% fragrance. The only wooden wicks I have find a little better are the single plyer wicks.
