As a therapist as well as a person with a disability, I thought it was so cool that you made sure to note that for some folks, makeup wipes are a matter of accessibility, and that a certain amount of dirt on the skin is normal (and a therapist can help if that is something someone struggles with). While many mean well when they discourage use of "convenience" items (including makeup wipes, straws, etc.), it's important to note that those items sometimes make it possible to be more independent. Thank you, and you have a new subscriber:)

I work in a bar and I learnt the other day from a girl who had a stroke at a young age how she needs to use a bendy straw to drink easily. I was so fascinated because it is something I personally have never thought of and we only have straight straws at work.

Sometimes the best I can do is a makeup wipe to clean my face due to health conditions. I don't typically wear makeup, but when I do I try to use an actual cleanser. I've been in the hospital for several weeks without being able to wash my face properly. Makeup wipes are heavenly in those moments. It's always important to remember "convenience items" aren't just for "lazy" people. Many convenience options (such as precut veggies and fruit) are the ONLY options sometimes for people with disabilities. It's also important to remember that disabled people's ability to go about life/survive is more important than a few wipes and straws going to a landfill. The big contibuters to waste are not disabled people trying to survive. It's corporations.

I agree 100%. I think most people would use a makeup wipe as a pre-cleanse before washing their face. And you could do the 2nd experiment with a different set of cleansers - I would be especially interested in the 2nd cleanser being a super gentle one for dry or sensitive skin. Also, instead of makeup, you could show trying to remove waterproof SPF.

I sure hope you're right! I had very oily skin as a teenager, and I got into the habit of washing my face with a cleanser and water. I just wouldn't feel clean unless I did. I've tried using wipes as a first cleanse, and they didn't work well for me. I'd rather use a reusable pad with a liquid makeup remover, and then use a cleanser with water.

As someone who worked at Ulta for 5 years and moved to being an Esthetician for a few years now, unfortunately most people just use the wipes. No cleansing after. 😭 I have seen a big shift into finally doing a cleanse afterwards, so fingers crossed for the next few years. 🤞🤞

I would like to see this done again but after wearing your makeup all day, because freshly applied makeup removes much more easily than makeup that has had time to break down and settle into the skin, and I feel like the oils in my skin help the makeup cling more. Imagine how much worse it would be on both sides. Also, when I DO use makeup wipes, I always cleanse after; the wipe is mainly to remove the stubborn makeup like eye makeup.

I'd love to see this retried with an SPF, it would still show with the woods lamp BUT should be easier to remove with cleansing. Or do we think it's easier to remove because it's clear? Thank you! I always used makeup wipes first, then went in with my cleanser to finish the job. I was doing double cleanses before anyone even used the term. That isn't accurate to how people do it though... at least as far as what is recommended with cleansing or how most people use makeup wipes, which is that they do a makeup wipe and nothing else. Though some people do single cleanse and that's it, so it would be cool to at least see it, but yea, not super relevant for this particular video (and she only has 2 halves to her face). Some people use cleanser after a makeup wipe, and that would be similar, but with more stuff left over inside the pores.

I use makeup wipes as a second step in my 3 step cleansing process. I do buy balms, but if you plan on using everyday it can get expensive. So I buy Albolene like Dr. Dray once recommended. It's cheaper and lasts a really long time. I melt my makeup with the Albolene and then I use a makeup wipe to remove most of the oil with the melted makeup off, and then I wash my face with a water based foaming cleanser. But no one seems to talk about those of us who use them in a different manner rather than just a first or only step.

I only wear eyeshadow and mascara a lot of the time, and I use an oil cleanser twice, then I use my gel cleanser atleast once, if not twice. I didn't used to go that hard, but after watching James Welsh's video about the woman who didn't remove her mascara, I just can't simply double cleanse anymore🤣🤣

I do a 2.5 step cleanse and I wonder if it makes a difference. First I use an oil based cleanser. Next I use a reusable round soaked in micelar water to remove the oil based remover before rinsing with water and then I follow with a cleanser. I think that helps the second cleanser get in the pores as I’m not smearing makeup remover all over as I cleanse.

a lot of people who use makeup wipes seem to use it like a balm or oil cleanser or micellar water, in that they wash it off with some other face wash.. the only time they seem to use it as the only cleanse is on road trips or when super drunk / sleepy lol (I used to so this too). but agreed, wipes are a waste not even because of makeup residue but because of their non biodegradability..

oils also remove makeup not just better but also more gently, I don’t have to rub my eyes a million times when I use a makeup wipe vs when I use a oil based micellar water or cleaning oil/balm

also I do theater, and makeup wipes we use backstage to touch up makeup but the only things that really TAKES the stage makeup off is a good cleansing balm.

@morgianasartre6709 2 жыл бұрын
@@francescamezei4037 I would not exactly agree that it is more gentle, oil/balm cleansing takes so much more time and my face gets irritated by all that cleansing/touching (never happens when I use micellar water, plus as the comment said it can be your only option on a hike, an oil cleanse is just not realistic in those situations. Stage makeup is whole different ballgame, not comparable to what the average person wears in their day to day.

When i used to wear make-up i would use a wipe, then i would wash with a facewash. So i was double-cleansing with wipes used first. Sometimes i would use wipes, then oil, then facewash. Other times i would rub oil all over my face, then use make-up wipes to remove that, then oil again, then facewash, this was all pre-2010. I was spraying fine mist water on my face after doing my make-up back then too, like setting spray, people didn't really use setting spray back then.

I have found l need to wash my face three times. Before I get my makeup off. One that break down oil, makeup and sunscreen. Then with moisturizing wash and last with a green tea mint cleanser.

Hi! Can you talk about the new trend to have an exfoliating product with charcoal and Vitamin C. I have seen a couple of brands like Lush do it and I am very skeptical about mixing Vitamin C directly with charcoal!! I feel like it's a scam. What do you think about that?

I now use face cloths when I double cleanse after reading Caroline Hiron's book. I'd be interested to see if the face cloth helps get the make-up out of your pores rather than just using your hands to cleanse.

Japanese cleansing oil is my #1 lazy, cheap and effective way of removing literally everything before bed. Just rinse with warm water or add an extra wash with regular facial cleanser afterwards (I tend to just do the oily soap because it's less stripping). I never really get makeup related outbreaks anymore. PS: I am an oily skin type.

Interesting. I don't wear makeup (I had acne problem as a teen and since makeup was bad for acne, I never really got into it), but I do wear sunscreen, and don't usually double cleanse it, only use a mild gel cleanser, and an AHA toner after. Now I'm wondering if maybe I should start double or even triple cleansing my face after sunscreen :/

To be fair micellar waters are sooo different, there are good ones that take all my makeup off (I swear by Bioderma Sensibio) and there are shitty ones that struggle to perform their function. I imagine the same is with makeup wipes. Formula still matters.

I'm interested to know if the makeup you used is shadow or pigment. Eye and face pigment is much more difficult to remove and can leave staining. Would you be able to do the same test with regular makeup?

I wonder if you double cleanse with the first step being the wipe if it would be the same as your other double cleanse side. I also wonder how much is staining from the uv makeup because I imagine the colors are probably more neon pigments which are prone to stain.
