I actually just watched a video about slugging. It was by the channel Doctorly and it was 2 dermatologist talking about the best products to use. One thing they mentioned that I think is important is that it will apparently make the normal products you use extra effective. Which is good in some cases, but with more harsh products you could end up with chemical burns. So, slug if you want, but slug smartly!

Yes! I just started doing this after seeing someone do it online, cause I hate when water is dripping down my arms snd elbows. When I first watched the video I thought it would be kinda gross cause the scrunchie would just be holding all this water in it and that they might get gross, but in reality the scrunchie barely even feels damp after, most of the time it still feels dry, and it totally stops the water from dripping all down your arms and leaving your counters wet. Very happy I found this. My scrunchie aren’t even very big, they’re thinner ones I bought off amazon.

I’ve been slugging for 2 years and love it!! Usually it’s done with a petroleum based product because creams like the one you put on (ps I love that one!) aren’t going to be occlusive enough to “slug” with. I slug every night by doing all of my skincare, moisturizer, sometimes an oil, and then aquaphor healing ointment all over my face in a thin layer ❤️
@tanaziegler2 жыл бұрын
Yes!I do this too.. love aquaphor or cerave healing ointment! but it DEF needs to be a petroleum based product (it originated from using petroleum jelly but over time ppl have found even better petroleum based products but Pet jelly can def be used to slug) I have done this for YEARS bc I have EXTREMELY dry itchy skin & it's the only way I can keep my skin from cracking & looking so dry! I also ALWAYS slug over retinol bc it helps to keep the moisture in your skin.. I use my retinol then wait a few mins to soak in then go in with the rest of my skin care (even use some rosehip oil & moisturizer) then top with my aquaphor! Def look like an extra glazed donut- but I love it.. It's a winter weather savior!

What’s the difference between slugging and just putting Vaseline/lotion on your face at night? Bc I moisturize every night, and half the slugging videos I’ve seen just looks like they are just moisturizing with double the amount of lotion. So confused as to why putting on extra lotion would have more benefits than just a normal amount.
@FlowersInTheVase_2 жыл бұрын
@@ohjordyn8312 I've never slugged with just lotion, but I think the thing with Vaseline is that is locks in the moisture and lets your skin heal overnight. I heard that it also repairs your skin barrier, and I've noticed that it helps my under eye bags more than just moisturizer. Rachel knows that it has to be occlusive so maybe what she used was a little different from regular lotion.
@NoYeahNah2 жыл бұрын
This is so strange to me, because vaseline/acquphor just causes MAJOR acne on my skin. Like, even the Laneige lip mask (which is petroleum based) caused tiny painful little zits on my lip-line. The only thing I've done like this that worked was rubbing a little water on my face with two wet fingers, and applying hyaluronic acid on damp skin. Then dabbing a light moisturiser over the top. Your face feels wet, but wonder around a bit before bed then... voilà! Baby skin in the morning. I guess it just really depends on your skin type and individual dermal chemistry.
@FlowersInTheVase_2 жыл бұрын

I have been slugging my face for many years! Did I learn about it from k beauty? No. I learned it in nursing school to treat pressure sores. Most pressure sores are where bandages are impossible to apply, so we put antibiotic cream on them coated them with Vaseline or A&D ointment. One thing I noticed was how soft their skin got. My skin has always been dry, but I went to Florida for vacation that year and got a painful sunburn on my face. So I thought Hmmm wonder if that pressure sore technique would work with moisturizer? So I slathered on moisturizer and coated my face with Vaseline. The sunburn was much better the next day and my face felt SO hydrated! I have done it every night since then and that was over 30 years ago!

How do you keep it from getting into your hair or on the pillow case as you sleep? I have thought about doing this but I don't want to ruin my sheets with Vaseline or have to take a shower each morning. Thank you!
@foxymama20032 жыл бұрын
@@kellysueballard7654 I use a thin layer to coat the skin and apply it about 15 minutes to a half hour before I go to bed. My skin is really dry and it absorbs quickly on me. I have never stained my pillow case and it is white so it would definitely show. The key is the thin layer. I rub it in my hand and then press it into my face. It doesn’t take much to get the occlusive effect that will lock in your moisturizer.

I need to try the brightening concealer trick. And I’ve heard of slugging before. Shelly/Geek Out of Water has talked about it a lot on her channel. As for the freckles… Personally, I’d be scared silly to try spraying my face with some kind of root touch up spray trying to make “freckles”. I remember when my younger sister would rub lemons all over her face trying to *fade* her freckles! She also tried to be “blonde” by spraying Sun-In in her flame red hair like a fiend (when Sun-In was still a relatively new product) one summer. The closest she ever got was a really strawberry blonde. She was lucky she didn’t ruin her hair.

Slugging works best with something like Vaseline. I know petroleum is debated on whether it's good, bad or neutral for skin but IMO it's genuinely ok for me. It makes a huge difference. Apply all skincare as usual (no actives, no BHA/AHA/ etc acids no retinol) then pat on a thin layer of Vaseline. Don't rub it, it can mix with your skincare and prevent it from absorbing. Vaseline solely creates a barrier to lock it all in. It's great for dry skin. I'm highly prone to blackheads/whiteheads but it never clogs my pores.

So apparently I’ve been “slugging” since the late 90’s lol. I’ve always had acne prone skin so I thought using astringents and all that jazz back in the day would fix it. It made it worse.
