have it hold a core of alkaline metal and it will. alkalines react to moisture and ignite. lithium, potassium, sodium, all of that can be crammed inside a hollow or whisk shaped morning star, and as long as it has a sharp way of breaking flesh, it can have its payload make contact with blood and go off

best part is, alkalines like Potassium Sodium alloy (NaK) appear as silver. “Silver” being whats supposedly the most effective against… well.. fleshy targets. and likely a misunderstood science. Technology has its place among magic and mysticism in the castlevania series.

Considering I always figured a chain whip as portrayed in castlevania would be impossible and therefore a little silly, this is pleasantly surprising.

Thank you for doing this test! During the intro, I was planning to dive into the comments with a lecture about how whip physics depend upon taper, but, you clearly understand how whips work xD I'm stunned that the morningstar on the end of such a large chain can be somewhat effective (of course, not practical, because resetting to a ready position would be impossible in actual combat, but that's not the point). I wonder if having a longer staff portion and perhaps a shorter chain portion might make it work better. Still, science is all about making wrong predictions and being surprised by results, so I'm definitely in science mode when watching this. I'm looking forward to your next updates on this project.

Thats really cool. Does a good bit of damage too. Though i would still hate to wield it against an armed & resisting enemy.

A while ago I made a whip, I made it with wool cattail (I tried to make it look like a leather whip, like a long braid), I put the handle of a metal mace on it so it would have a better grip and at the tip of the whip I made a small knot, like a little ball... it doesn't cut, but it hits like a punch and burns and hurts like a very hard slap!

From the looks of it, the chain links all have the same size. As far as I know this is accurate to what the actual Vampire killer is like, but I'm curious what would happen to its handling/performance if you were to make it more like a whip where the links close to the handle are larger and become smaller as it gets near the end.

There is a chain whip video out there. Dunno who did it, I think it's the dude who plays songs on his whip. The sonic boom is so loud and dense, it sets off a car alarm. It would probably kill or at minimum, decimate an unarmored target.

There are chain whips that taper and have crackers attached to the end, rather than big heavy darts or balls. The takeaway is that they function like whips, they're just heavier, so it's harder to do multi-crack maneuvers with them.

considering the Belmont bloodline has to be able to consistently and effectively use this at high speeds, it shows just how much training must go into using the Vampire Killer

In terms of danger I was in medieval re-enactment group and morning stars were banned as there was a serious risk of the chains twisting around arms etc breaking bones from the torsion.

Hey hope you’re well, does your friend that made you these by any chance make them to order? I’m in the US and would absolutely love a spiked ball one.

My friend just made the normal paracord whip, the rest are all mine. I have gotten this question a couple of times so I will see what I can do. The focus now is on a final version, but I think that I can squeeze in one or two spiked versions.

You could always imitate the taper of a real whip: from thick to thin. Just combine larger and smaller chain links from big to small, maybe in sections of 9-12 links each section. And then add a very small but pointy/sharp and spiky weight at the end, roughly the same weight as the last, smallest links. You gotta be well versed and thoroughly practiced with a real bullwhip first, though. It will not be the exact same movement pattern but it should come pretty close. Plus: he's not always handling it like a whip only - he uses techniques for a really long kusari-fundo AND variations (henka) for kusari-gama as well as Chinese rope-dart applications that I recognized from my somewhat 20 years of Bujinkan Ninjutsu. Might wanna look into that as well.

Maybe can combine diferent types of chain and dimensions of it in 1 chain-whip..being more rigid near the handel and tinny at the end with a 3st section medium between..

Have you thought of tapering the chain and making the tip piece as lightweight as possible? Great job thank you for sharing.
@pimsprojects
@pimsprojects 11 ай бұрын
I have thought about it, but tapering the chain while still attaching a heavy piece of steel to the end will make very little difference in the overall performance. And I want these whips to have a big piece of steel on the tip to see how much they differ from regular whips in regard to how they handle and how much damage they do. I have seen several chainmail whips that are tapered and have a very lightweight tip that actually crack. I do admit that it would be fun to make, but for this project I want to keep it as close to the original Castlevania style as possible, which means a handle, a long chain and a large piece of steel on the business end. I am trying to find a good balance between the size of the piece of steel and its weight. The massive steel spiked ball is to heavy, but the hollow one is more manageable although the chain is a bit to long.
@7digger3
@7digger3 11 ай бұрын
@@pimsprojects I totally understand your point. Maybe a hollow titanium end piece?, castlevania chain is slightly tapered, is it not?
@pimsprojects
@pimsprojects 10 ай бұрын
@@7digger3 A very light titanium chain at the end of a heavy and rigid whip might do the trick, but nothing bigger I would think. I based my whips on the early Castlevania games (NES, Gameboy) which were just pixelated sprites depicting a chain with some sort of a ball at the end. The best version of this can be seen in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I used those whips as an example and they do not have a taper, but only a metal chain.
@siegebug

So which of the three whips performed the best? Did you formed any conclusion?
@pimsprojects
@pimsprojects 5 ай бұрын
The last one with the shorter chain and the lightweight mace-like head worked best, so that will be the base for the final version. Together with the larger handle of the first two, those had a better grip.

Where would i be able to acquire such an amazing weapon?
@pimsprojects
@pimsprojects Жыл бұрын
First I am going to make a real battle ready version (propper chain length, hardened steel) since the ones in this video are test versions. Maybe I will make one or two extra, but that is a big maybe because I would rather spend my time working on other weapons for new videos. The Bloodborne sawcleaver for instance.

What would make it even more brutal would be to put sharp edges on each piece of chain by adding blades, so when it wraps around and you pull it back, it cuts. It would also make it really bad for an opponent to grab it from you without wearing thick gloves.
