I'm curious, are you using magnetic filters? If so, which brand?

Using the 77mm Kase magnetic filter system on 3 of my lenses while I’m using the NiSi square filter system on my 14-30mm due to being an 82mm front filter.

Kase 77mm set 3,6,10 ND with CPL. They seem a lot less bulky than the Nisi system, especially in the pouch.

I’m using the Maven Magnetic Filters. Many filter choices and fully customizable. Excellent quality with a lot of unique design features.

I'm loving the Nisi Swift filer system. I think I'm going to put that on my list to Santa...lol. I've been following you since Covid 2020 and you never fail to disappoint Brendan!

Brendan - not a lot of people know this but Kase do a graduated ND filter with their circular magnetic system. So you could actually have your cake and eat it. They even have a special mount that allows you to adjust the grad ND up or down a bit, so you are not limited to having the graduation start point at the midpoint (though you would need to get a larger ND grad filter than your lens filter size to make that work). I really like Nisi - they have been my square filter system of choice for many years. Fantastic quality, imo. But I almost never use them - basically, only when I wish to use an ND grad and have nothing protruding into the graduated area, like mountains tend to do. Otherwise I use a Kase magnetic ND system and either use the ND grad that I mentioned or take care of the grad in post, masking to not affect the protruding elements or exposure blending. And boy - are you waaay behind on your vlogs. See you in New Zealand!

This year I switched to Maven magnetic filters! I've been very happy using them from a previous nisi filters user.

Liked your comment about not creating drama if it's already there. I think we sometimes work too hard and we don't always have to do more!

Brendan, a big misunderstanding, the NiSi Swift system is NOT a magnetic filter system. The filters are held in place by a plastic clamp ring. Unfortunately, this makes the filters very thick, which also makes the bag very big. When they came out I thought, why doesn't NiSi make magnetic filters. But now they've listened to us brand ambassadors (I'm a NiSi brand ambassador from Germany), and with the new JetMag Pro system, a real magnetic filter system is finally coming onto the market. And you don't have to worry about the filters falling off, if necessary you can rotate the filters into a position where they are secured. The new JetMag Pro filters are now much thinner and come again in the NiSi Caddy II bag. Unfortunately, the bag for the Swift system wasn't really well thought out. Because it has Velcro fasteners in three places that work on both sides, it always gets caught in the camera backpack... I'm also one of the few who works with graduated filters (you can actually see that in all of my videos), but in the JetMag Pro packaging there was a little piece of paper on which, among other things, a "roadmap" for the JetMag Pro system was printed. And there was also talk of an adapter for rectangular filters...

Great demonstration, does Nisi have a circular polarizer option for the magnetic kit ? I guess you could install a screw on circular polarizer first to your lens then add the magnetic kit onto the front of the polarizer, just curious. I'm still using a Lee graduated filter kit. The size of the Nisi kit sure makes it inviting👀👍👍😎

Does that filter system come with a polarizer? If so, do you get much vignetting when stacking a polarizer and ND filter? I use Nisi's old V5 system and am happy with it, but I'm always looking.
@BrendanvanSon
@BrendanvanSon 2 күн бұрын
It does come with a polarizer, but I didn't get one. I can tell you that at 14mm my camera had a tiny vignette with the 10-stop. So, I imagine that with a polarizer the widest I would have been able to go would be about 16mm.

Small correction. I think that the filters are Swift filters, ss you say in the video, but the title of your post says Switch.

@@BrendanvanSon I should have mentioned brand. I'm using Kase, usually always have the polarizer on there so I have ND's on top every so often. They're just really thin so It's hard to get a hold of them. They're almost too magnetic ; )

So jealous!.... Are you doing Torres in 2025?
@BrendanvanSon
@BrendanvanSon 10 сағат бұрын
No Torres in 2025. The restrictions they've put on the park, and the lack of infrastructure investment (despite increased tourism) and such made me decide to stay away for a bit.

Single frame is a real photograph to me. As soon as separate images start being combined the result is no longer a valid photograph, digital art yes but not a legit photo. Grad filters keep it real!! Just my personal ethic but I'm a grouchy old man who grew up on Kodachrome.

I feel like then all digital photography is digital art. I don't think there's an issue of blending two images together from the same moment in time.
