Thank you very much for this test! I was just wondering how these mics would work for recording thunderstorms. Now I know, they sound fantastic 👍👍

Hey! nice recordings! Want to ask.. i already have Zoom H6 Essential and thinking about buying some external mics. SE8 are for great price and very low self noise. So I already ordered them. But not sure how they will work with H6e. Do you think it will be fine? or H6 will add some more noise to recording? Asking like an idiot but I see that you are using F3 so maybe it will be ok? Thanks!

@@soundhole5498 understand.. btw when you compare this setup (f3+sE8) with Sony PCM D100.. which one is better for quiet ambiences? is there a big difference? I think.. PCM D100 self-noise is about 19dBA... sE8 specifications indicate a noise of 13dBA but in the reviews many users write that its completely false and corresponds more to a noise of 20-24 dB. What is your experience? Thanks!

Yes. I also think that the self noise with se8 is higher(for my ears). Its depending what frequenzy the noise have. For easy use i like the clippy em 172 with zoom f3... Nice price and low self noise... But in strong wind they didnt work this good. And its a very small kit... Very good for stealth recording.
I'm thinking about a cardioid pair in addition to the pluggies I already use. This recording uses the omni capsule? Have you made any similar comparisons with the cardioid capsule? You say below that the self-noise is likely higher than advertised; is it a big issue for your nature and ambient recording? I'm using an F6. Enjoyed the sounds; thanks!

I now only use the Clippys EM272 from Micbooster. They have less noise, are more affordable, and are smaller

@@soundhole5498 This sounds like you don't have a use for more directional or obviously stereo files? Or am I missing something else? I agree that the EM272 -- Clippy or Pluggy -- is better for omni. On the other hand, have you ever considered an ambisonic approach? I dither between the eS8s and a Rode NT-SF1 for example. Thanks for your time.

what are your views about the self noise of se8 for field recordings. A lot of people claim it to be more than 13dbA. Can you suggest a good mic for the price which can be used for field recordings. Also have you tried se7 as well? thanks for making these videos.

What size gasket on the bbg covers are you using?
@soundhole54986 ай бұрын
I have two different sizes. 21 and 22 mm. The 22 mm fits best. The 21 mm is extremely difficult to put on.

@@soundhole5498 I was curious because I had a 22 and jumped up to the 24/25 because it was so hard to get on/off. Now when I use them I wrap about a 6" strip of 1" gaff tape around the mic just behind the capsule so the larger rycote bbg gets a seal. Having done it both ways I actually like the tape option better.
