Testing of the "Stressless" HF Receiver by Stampfl in Switzerland

The Stampfl "Stressless" is a very simple HF receiver tuning from 100 khz to 30 mHz. There is no SSB and only a single (though well chosen) bandwidth. This receiver comes in kit form and features a large bright front display, main tuning knob, speaker on/off switch, headphone jack, volume control and a single LED for signal level. On the back are a 11-15V DC jack and BNC. About as basic as they come, but strangely fun to use even without reception tools found on almost every other HF receiver. Beautiful white heavy metal cabinet makes this look very good on a desk or among other receivers. Stampfl (www.heinzstamp...) is known for making some excellent antennas and other equipment for SWLs and amateur radio operators. I'll have a more extensive review of the "Stressless" in coming weeks.

Very nice and the wesite too. I was just listening around the frequencies you were tuning around 9, 10, 11 MHz. I have various receivers, but was listening on the General Coverage of my Yaesu FT-891 also an amateur HF transceiver, with my Yaesu FC-50 tuner to my Windcamp WA4, Off Center Fed Windom, with a balun. We are on about a 300 foot hill, on the top, 4th floor, with a balcony, that I have my antenna located and the 60 foot leg goes to a tree 🌳 in the nearby woods. The 20 foot leg is along and down our terrace, and works quite well. Unfortunately, there are not the station choice on Shortwave like many years ago when I started MW Dxing on an RCA minitube battery portable, then in 1961, a Hallicrafters SX-110, about $170.00, back then from an original Radio Shack store nearby in Stamford, CT. Then I became an Amateur in 1962, and still am active at 80 years old. My wife is also licensed, age 81, for 20 years. 😊

Thanks Dan for showing this excellent receiver, the set-up reminds me of my Belka (2022 All Mode) with a modern touchscreen and doesn’t move when you tune it…😂! Have great day! 73!

Yes, beautiful cabinet and really a looker -- but one bandwidth and no SSB is a steep climb combined with the price. Further testing underway, but so far sensitivity is excellent and no overloading using loop antennas. Mediumwave also excellent. But again, no other reception tools (notch, PBT, etc) -- it is just what it is...

@@dxace1 Thanks Dan no SSB is a problem, however it looks good. I currently searching for a radio with a TEF-6688 chip that does have SSB, do you know of one? 73!

​@@Kw1161There are no SSB capable receivers that use this TEF6688 chip, as the chip was made for car radios originally.
