In this video Jon tests the Ortofon Digital Cartidge. These are made for Serato records, but we found they work really great across the range.

I have these and the scratch version love them both I would definitely consider these true to sound and the scratch having more bass. There also great for scratching.

What about for back cueing any difference between those two?

Thanks for the good video, this is very interesting information for most. Thank you for doing the work ;)

I believe these are designed to alter the equalization to increase the 1khz-2khz range that's used in the timecode signal. Also, the frequency response only goes to 18khz. Wouldn't the DJ version of this cartridge be better for playing actual records since it doesn't alter the equalization and produces full range frequency response to 20khz?

Would love to see a follow up on this with the tests at lower tracking forces and thoughts in the year since making this video!

you wanna make us work, do ya!? JK. That's a pretty good idea actually. We need to do a new round of tests with the VNL carts--will likely revisit all the previous tests as well.

Great video. I use 4 to 5 gram tracking forces regularly in my older broadcast tonearm without any noticeable wear to the vinyl.
@jamesp80954 жыл бұрын
Its designed for heavy handed people like me that just dial the weight to max without caring and therefore supposed to reduce wear.

Did you ever test this with a lower tracking force?

Hello, how about this cartridge to use with vinyls that are not time code? thanks for the content, greetings

the 1-2K spike is intentional as that's the general signal range with Timecode vinyl

Spike? looks pretty even to us

i cant understand in english languaje. my question is: that ortofon digital are good to timecode vinyls? i have ortofon scratch and i use this to timecode. the digital its better???
@DJFixNYC3 жыл бұрын
The digital cartridge is designed to be used with timecode vinyls, so they should be a good choice!

Let me get this right to get 4gm I set the weight at 0.0 gm since the weight doesn't have 4gm mark right?

precisely!

Nice review So witch one did you think is better? this one or club? You test both so I think your opinion it’s a good one
@DJFixNYC3 жыл бұрын
If you are going for a lively, slightly hyped sound, the Club is probably the best choice. We see a lot of professional DJs choosing the Club cartridge and they seem to be happy with the results.

@@DJFixNYC First of all thank you for your reply. To be honest with you I want one for the looks and for audio quality. I don’t have any DJ intentions. Only for the looks I prefer this one, but if of audio quality the club it’s ok, maybe I should go with the Club

Thanks for making this video. I was able to get a good deal on a new pair of these, and don’t intend on using for any time code records. Would you recommend dialing back by 1 on the tonearm?
@DJFixNYC3 жыл бұрын
Haven't tested it dialed back, but you could probably get away with it. In our own experience, we've been able to do just that without seeing any negative affects on the audio quality. If you go too light with the counterweight, you'll get distortion and usually bad tracking.
@briansheeran67443 жыл бұрын
@@DJFixNYC That’s great to hear. I will be using for mixing, so I’ll be doing some heavy backcueing. Hoping to take a little weigh off the cartridge while keeping the needle in the groove.

Hey! How did you get on with these dialed back to 3 and back cueing/mixing. Exactly what I want to do. Very keen to hear your thoughts on this setup. Thank you

Can these carts be used with Traktor as well, or are they only optimally suited for Serato?
@DJFixNYC3 жыл бұрын
Should be just fine with Traktor

Is the stylus or the cartridge that’s is responsible for the output voltage? Can I put digital stylus on my mix carts?
@DJFixNYC3 жыл бұрын
While the stylus may affect the output based on a couple different factors, you'll likely see the biggest difference in output due to the cartridge. We haven't done any tests on a stylus/cartridge "crossbreed", but it would probably work just fine.

You can. DJ City had some links to the raw sound files for comparison. I don't know if the files are still there... kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooKkqqunlNSfetU

@@DJFixNYC Hi, my humble experience ...Cartridges make some difference, but in the case of Ortofons, many cartridges are the same (not all), just the Styluses differs and can make huge increase or decrease of output depending on the lenght of the cantilever. Same applies to the M44 with different Needles, for example the E, G, 7 or C (aprox 6mV to 10mV diferences). Keep Spinning!!! :D .. BTW i think the Digitrack OM is 3 gr. :D

i just bought these for using timecode and my records whats the best thing to do to prevent them from waring down my records?
@DJFixNYC3 жыл бұрын
generally, judicious use of your counterweight will keep your records and the stylus in good shape. It's best to only go as heavy as necessary to keep the needle on the record. If your needle jumps around while you scratch, obvs add a little more tracking force. But only as much as you need.

I like how it's called digital, but there's nothing digital about it, it's a fully analog device. It's just that it's made to work optimally with digital timecode vinyl.
