I had a friend leave his car at work for a few days as we went on a business trip. When we finally returned we noticed the engine making odd noises. Upon inspection, the wires to one of the spark plugs had been chewed straight through. We were both very tired, so I took him home that day. The very next morning, he opened the hood to have a better look at the damage and see if it was a quick fix but there was a rabbit having itself a meal.

This seems like a good way for storing something long-term in a garage or shed with a controlled environment. Even though we don't have a lot of vehicles in the yard from what I observed it seems like anything that's in constant use everyday the mice tend to avoid as the smell of people are always on it. But the moment it's parked somewhere and left for a week or two or even a month is when they start sneaking into the passages & vents and making homes under the hood. So this is good for protecting something collectible that isn't used all the time. It looks like it would also be good for preventing rodents from getting into bins of chicken feed :)
@Tsuchimursu2 жыл бұрын
A tad expensive for chick feed protection though... xD
@Slane5832 жыл бұрын
@@Tsuchimursu Not really. Because chicken feed itself is becoming rather expensive. The last thing you want is rodents thinking your chicken feed is for them. You also don't want them getting into the bins and making nests in there either. The zappy floor tiles are expensive upfront but if they last and continue to work over a long period of time then the price pays for itself by protecting your assets. The assets being your chickens and their food source. Seeing as eggs are slowly becoming hard for some people to find the zappy floor is a good idea for those who want or need it.

Peppermint oil works, for a few weeks anyway. I've used it on several occasions to keep rodents out of unwanted places. For $6 (give or take a buck) for a tiny bottle, it's not the cheapest, but certainly not in the thousands range like this electric product that also uses your utilities or batteries. Otherwise I put out some snap traps and sticky traps to catch the stragglers.

I see your point but we should use common sense. Shawn's videos are all about function, practicality, etc. and his point was clear to me. In a covered setting (even with no walls) the barrier serves its purpose by deterring the threat. Sure, no dead rodents in such an event, but the goal is vehicle protection from something other than a crook with a window breaking device looking for quick access. I don't see this product being used completely outdoors where it is subject to the environment for an extended period of time here in southern La. I suspect in MN, in Dec through Feb, it is a less appealing ball game.

Interesting product, but very impractical for use on the road at an rv park. Definitely need protection for the vehicles. But it has to be more simple and easy to set up (and take down). Some rv’ers say a motion sensing light, placed under the vehicle, will deter the critters. I use one of the catchAll live traps pretty effectively. Place on the inside of the tire and I normally catch 3 or 4 per week. Some sort of rodent force field would be the bomb for this application, but what would that look like?
