In this video, I used a Sharp Pog to sharpen my multi-tool blades. Multi-tool blades can be expensive so I wanted to I tested out a blade sharpener. This was the first time that I used this sharpener and I think it worked! It took a few tries to get it right but if you have any better techniques, let me know in the comments!

Teeth are breaking off because you are heating the metal and altering the crystal grain structure. Also the teeth have to be 'set' . has to have a kerf.

Yes this whole idea is absolutely terrible. Biggest tool scam in history. I actually can not believe people are ignoring the blades original geometry and doing this to the blade 😂

Needed to constantly dip the blade in cold water , you let the blade get to hot and weakened the metal .

You are right. You can see the metal starts changing colour at 2:26.

not to Highjack your answer but Part of what you said is true. Def over heating it and changing the temperament of the metal but quickly cooling it in water will make it brittle and junk. should not get it anywhere near as hot and Quench the metal in Oil. But it is a bit more technical then that. Just saying

🚨 2:17 you are spinning the grinder in the wrong direction and I can tell by the direction of the sparks. You always have your grinding stone or in this case the spinning wheel pushing INTO the blade so that it pushed the hot ground metal in. Pulling out or in this case spinning out and away from the blade pulls the metal away causing jagged edges. It’s heating up the metal making it temporarily molten and it’s creating an extremely thin edge of metal.

Even those dull blades have a purpose. I keep them around to use on drywall. Drywall will destroy a new blade in seconds and make it useless for anything else, but a dull blade will still cut through drywall until it's flat.

Was gonna say what was said just immediately below, the blade is heating up with heat marks from the pressure. I would say heat damage is the wrench in the system.

It's like a honing steel for multi blades. But spritz water on it as you go. I can see the teeth turning blue, which is when the temper is gone.

Before you even cut that I could have seen that that was not a dull blade. If that's what you call Dull, give me all of your dull blades.... I have one of these sharpeners, but I wasn't doing it that, way I think your way is better.... I'm going to try that, thank you, I appreciate it!

I think you need to hold the blade at a 90° angle to the grinder. The way you're doing it makes the blade thinner and weaker.

I've felt how light those Ryobi multi tools are and thought they would be no good at all . But I'm kind of surprised how quickly it cut that wood . Even though it wasn't much of a test I guess. I.e small bit of wood

Nice sharpening tool but you can make your own a lot cheaper by using a bolt, cut of wheels, washers, nuts and a lock nut.

How about making a jig to set blade rather than by hand. Set jig with blade and move toward rotating gadget slowly millimeter by milimeter and Walla… there you go.. I hope I didn’t confuse you.

It would take a lot more time, but seeing the blade overheat on the wheel had me thinking about using a file to sharpen the blades. I have a handful I might try a few different sizes & shape files on just to see the outcome, but then it's going to come down to which is worth more, your time or money? (that & if the blade is coated with a harder material, after attempting to sharpen it, it would no longer be harder than the steel that the rest of the blade is made of)

the blade is way too hot after sharpening -- you ahve to dip it into water and/or let it cool off -- once they're hot they get dull real quick

There's no point of resharpening tipped blades with only a few millimeters of titanium, diamond, carbide, and etc...As for general construction grade/purpose blades -- for sure. The sharpening bit doesn't seem like a precision tool either, so you may do more harm than good.

the idea of making this tool was ok, but execution and the mechanic of those grinding wheels are not for this purpose. I got the same result resulting may be two cut on the work piece. definitley does not cost 56+ dollars they charge you for it. By the way, I am professional door installer and repair person so I use this tool everyday.
