Thank you for testing out all of these ideas and saving us the time and trouble! May I give a shoutout to the Spellbinders Glimmer Boot Camp KZbin series? Wow! What a difference a bit of knowledge made in my foiling. I learned to use my antistatic tool to prevent overfoiling in that series and, I'll be darned, but it works! I am also a fan of the hinge method. I either use the hinge method or a bit of tape to hold things in place for all my foiling. For elements I want foiled directly on my card panel, I get perfect placement. For everything else, a little insurance that things will stay in place. Glimmer boot camp also helped me realize I prefer to place my plate, foil and cardstock on the bed to heat, disengage the base, add the shim and top plate, then roll it through my die cutting machine. I wish I'd watched your video sooner! For full size and large background foil panels, I learned the hard way to use a half sheet of cardstock to foil, then cut the panel down to size.

Cathy, I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have a glimmer but seldom use it as all my trials are errors. Number 1 lesson - heat the die, pull out unit, then layer foil and stock! Worked like a champ! Second lesson - move die cutting machine next to foiling machine. I was walking across the room and obviously not doing a very good job of being steady. Amazing difference. Two things I have to do different in that I have a Big Shot, is to run my plate through twice or I had splotchy foiling but no over foiling and second, when I use my solid hot foil plate I have to use a card shim for reverse foiling. Very pleased with the outcome! That’s all I did today was play with my Glimmer! I had so much fun! Thank you again and again for your videos!

I never had an issue with double foiling. Maybe because of the machine I use? Mine has a hinged door so the top cannot shift no matter what. I did have a lot of frustration when I was using my Big Shot Pro as it didn't have even pressure but ever since I got the Switch it's smooth sailing and, yes, only one pass or there's tons of over foiling. Better for the tape to disintegrate than melt all over everything. I had that happen to me. Needless to say, I don't use that tape for foiling any longer! As most everyone mentioned, you're too hard on yourself. It's a lovely card. Hasta mañana!

When I don't like my inking I'll spray the background with either water or shimmer spray. It kinda softens it.

PHEW! You tried disengaging. That was a huge game changer for me. Now it seems so obvious. If I forget to do it I can see everything jump and skip. The thin Tim Holtz mats seem like a great idea too. I don't love the hinge method because I have trouble tucking the foil under. But sometimes I have to do it because it helps with placement if the placement has to be exact. I have found with the disengaging/no shim/one time through if I get any overfoiling it is minimal and I can literally run my (hopefully clean) finger over it and brush the excess away. thanks for sharing the compilation of suggestions.

I’m no pro either. But,maybe if the sentiments were more at an angle they would have foiled as well as the hinge method? Just wondering if the “jumping” caused the shadow foiling… I’m going to try these tips as well. Thank you for sharing.😊
