Testing pastel pencils - Stabilo Carbothello vs. Koh-i-noor Gioconda

I think they would complement each other well. For example the violet colors with the good lightfastness ratings...the more muted toned to blend the more vibrant ones...

Thank you for trying those pencils for us. My decision goes to Gioconda, because i more like to draw realistic landscapes and most of the time im happy if colors aren't vibrant. (No critic just my take) Thank you!

i use gioconda pastel pencils and they are perfect for me. are you still using them because I feel really bad of wasting money for buying a bad one over a good one😞

Thanks for this video 🙂 The colours of the Koh-i-Noor pastel pencils look more natural to me on your drawing. I think the colours of the Stabilo pastel pencils are too flashy and therefore give a less natural result.

I only just learned that the Gioconda exist last month when I received one in my Sketchbox grab bag. I own about 20 Carbothellos. I instantly felt that I like the Gioconda a lot better, but it is very hard to tell when you only own one pencil hehehe. I have very little experience with pastels at all to be honest. Great review though! Btw, what kind of lighting do you use? It looks really good!

Ah, how interesting! I guess it depends on what you want from them. For me, I prefer that CarbOthellos are harder so I can get better details but I can imagine that the giocondas may be good for more muted drawings such as landscapes. So cool that you noticed the lighting as I just upgraded it 😎 I bought two soft boxes with daylight bulbs for around €50 and it’s made so much difference.
