The one great use I've found for these pocket rope saws is when you need to cut a limb that's really high. Throw a rope up and over, and then haul this up on a sturdier rope. The key, though, is to have a saw that has teeth on BOTH sides. Otherwise, when you drag it over the limb, it wants to flip to the smooth side as that's the least resistance, and by then you can't flip the chain over. A two-sided rope saw, in my experience, is a great alternative to ladders, pole saws, or an expensive call to the tree trimmer.

GREAT video! That little pocket chainsaw would be great to have in our car, because we HAVE encountered small downed trees here in the California Sierra blocking a road after a storm. Wild Alpines strawberries have been a favorite, since I was seven (I am old 'smiling') and as we were climbing the north side of Mt St Helen's in Washington state my Dad said 'STOP' and he stood for 30 seconds inhaling the air and then pointed and proclaimed 'wild strawberries!'. We (Dad Mom, and Aunt and me) all had two small collapsible canvas buckets and scurried up the mountain, dropped to our knees and for an hour picked strawberries. One for me two for the bucket. We all got a good gallons worth. Then saw huckleberry shrubs and spent another hour filling buckets of huckleberries until a momma bear with two cubs appeared in the distance and we left the area.

Good forest stewardship, Cody! Have you looked into the Washington DNRs land owner assistance cost share program? It’s a program designed for people like you to recoup up to 50% of the cost of treating forested acres on private land. If you haven’t already, it could be a nice way to recoup some money for the work you are already doing.

Another reason to have one of these is to be able to cut branches high up in a tree, where you cannot get to while you're on the ground. Tie paracord around it, toss it over the branch, tie another piece of paracord around the other handle and saw the branch off from the ground. About NY: Yep. I try to tell people who've never been to NY State. I lived in NYC and upstate NY as a child. People assume "New York" is just packed with people and no countryside until they travel just a hour north of NYC and see. I lived 3 hours north of NYC in the 80s. Mountainous area and I had to walk 5 miles to get to a store. ;) One year we got 3+ feet of snow, with 4-6 feet snowdrifts.

A group of friends and I went up to Unicoi Gap in GA, and I had the only friction saw like the one you had in this video. It worked a treat but yes did bind. At the end of our two day trip, one if the plastic saw handles had broken and the teeth were so mangled that it just wasn't workable. Now granted we did saw through about quite a few trees and some thick logs worth of firewood, but I'd rather have a go to tool in my emergency kit. This thing will do in a pinch like you said, but I'd rather not have items that will consume themselves with a short lifespan.
