It's good to have the electric supplemental heat. I used to lay next to my wood stove without a blanket I just wake up to feed it when I got cold enough LOL
@LetNewAdventuresBegin3 жыл бұрын
having the electric really is convenient- but it sounds like you had a nice system going 👍

In the next wood stove video we will show how we clean the stove pipe 👍

I had a stove on my old house and I learned that you can pack the stove full and let it burn to desired temperature then choke to make it last longer and prevent creosote build up, the creosote on the glass door indicates you are not burning effeciently. Let the temperature reach about 450F then choke it, the creosote on the glass will burn and should be clear when you are burning correctly. I suggest a miter saw to cut the wood to smaller pieces with ease to avoid spending so much time manually cutting it

Also once it is really hot avoid opening the stove and disturbing the ambers unless it is time to add new fuel.

thanks for the tips- we are learning a lot during our first season with a wood stove 👍 it does take some skill to use these effectively

I follow a channel “Little House off Grid” and he built himself a tiny house and uses a wood stove, he discusses the dampness of the wood and hard to burn, something like that! I enjoyed your explanation of how you use your wood stove!

thanks for the suggestion! sounds like our sort of channel- I will check that out 😁

To clean the door build the fire closer to the glass. It will burn the carbon off the glass. For a longer fire at night, the sawdust logs are compressed to be denser, so you are putting more BTUs into the stove, especially denser than soft woods. Be sure to throttle down the air entering the fire box to slow it down to make it last. Admittedly it doesn’t burn as clean, but the longer fire time is nice.

thanks for the tips Cliff 👍 it is a process learning the skills to make the most of the wood stove, but we are enjoying it

great videos :-) I am going to buy the same stove in my 38' sailboat, I was going to paint it, now I changed my mind, i like you guys use everything , mother earth thanks you guys :-)

That is a great plan- we would love to hear how you like the stove in your sailboat. It is an awesome experience to heat your home with things you find on the ground 😁

@@LetNewAdventuresBegin i will for sure.... Yes, I am all about being green , I replaced the diesel engine in my sailboat with electric motor , I have Lithium for my motor and House bank, and Solar panels, wind Turbine to charge my batteries, Nature's Head Composting Toilet and no holding tank, adding wood stove is logical move for me, I can live , without using fossil fuel, it is great for my pocket book and for Nature :-)

Wood stove heat is the best. Been using them for fifteen years, always warm. Make sure to introduce moisture into the air, to lessen dryness! 😊
@LetNewAdventuresBegin3 жыл бұрын
it is the best 🔥- I have no idea how we made it through the first 3 winters without it! we actually have an excess moisture issue in the tiny house in the winter (a common thing for very small homes) - more about that in future videos

Is there an intake tube that draws in cold air from the outdoors into the wood stove? Sometimes wood stoves will draw in warm air from a living space which creates a few issues. It sounds like efficiency doesn't really matter here because the stove is working so well, so I guess it doesn't matter much! It's amazing how something so small can work so well - cool stuff!

Yeah, I learned that the smoky way. All was ok I always crack a window and I light a test piece of paper to make sure there is draft going up.
@LetNewAdventuresBegin3 жыл бұрын
you can get a different mount for the stove that has a fresh air intake, but we just crack a window- that helps get a bit of fresh air and it is our way of regulating the temp if it gets too hot in the tiny house - as it can if we have the stove on for a few hours!

To clean glass use old fashioned black and white newspaper with some water. Water in a bowl and crumple up a piece of newspaper and get it moist. Rub in small circles on glass with pressure. Old timer solution my Uncle taught me. He also used a bit of turtle wax if you can still find it after cleaning to help keep it clean but I don't usually do that.
@LetNewAdventuresBegin3 жыл бұрын
thats a good trick, thanks Timothy 👍

I like to use the blowtorch( the ones the connect to the 1lb propane tanks) to start my fires now. Dry kindling and dry logs then torch it. Instant fire.
@LetNewAdventuresBegin Жыл бұрын
that sounds like a fun & efficient way to start a fire! 😊

Great video, but why has the stove discoloured like that?
@LetNewAdventuresBegin2 жыл бұрын
I tried to paint it, but the paint I got was not tolerant of high enough temps- One day I will clean it and try again because the red looked great 😊

Curious what happend to the coating on the stove?
@dewaynejeffords99962 жыл бұрын
thinking of installing one in our camper. didn't know the black color of stove can discolor. is that normal
@LetNewAdventuresBegin2 жыл бұрын
the stove is black- I painted it with high temp paint (not high enough!) and it peeled off after a few uses 🙄 should have gone with a higher temp rating as this little stove gets HOT 😁 besides that we love having a wood stove...so cozy!
@celticcamper2 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, have you painted your Grizzly to make it look like that?
@LetNewAdventuresBegin2 жыл бұрын
yup- I tried to paint it, but didnt get the right high temp paint (this one went up to 500 degrees, which sounded like a lot at the time never having used a wood stove before, but it can easily get past 600 degrees- so the paint didnt last long)

Get a jet bed for the heat and a chop saw for cutting

we ended up getting an electric chainsaw and that has been working well so far- we would love a chop saw...but dont have anywhere to store one right now

it would be great to have this type of heat in the scamp- so cozy!...but it was hard enough to cut a hole in our Tiny House roof...I dont know if I can bring myself to cut a hole in the scamp 😬

Linseed Oil and Cheese Cloth and 91% Isopropyl Alcohol takes the work out of starting the fire. Takes the "art" out of getting a good flame to start out with.

Ia wood stove should give you a 4 hr burn at least.
@LetNewAdventuresBegin3 жыл бұрын
it gets close to that, but with the small size of the stove it can only fit so much wood at one time, but it has been doing a good job keeping us warm this winter 😁
