I agree with everything you said this motor is very good with the crawler gears! I was blown away coming from all stock to this setup! Right away the torque increase is abundantly evident! Great video!

This motor will definitely give you more power, it also has good wheel speed so if your doing any slower more technical driving then also grabbing the Traxxas crawl gears for 5 bucks is a great option!

wowwwww that is buttery with a stock esc!! that underdrive helps but that mofo low speed control from a brushed motor is just mindblowing 🤯

@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies 9 ай бұрын
@matty_li The TRX4M is a pretty capable platform and doesn't really need a ton done to it to be capable! Low range gears are a must if your crawling, wheels and tires are a great first mod if you get wheels with brass rings to get some low down weight low. Brass diff covers and steering knuckles are also great helping to keep the truck planted! I try not to add crazy amounts of weight into a truck adding only enough to give it a slight forward weight bias and keep the weight down low.

@@havikhobbies It is winter here in Canada, and I found it to be alot of fun in moderately deep snow . ( definitely not in anything more than 2-3 inches deep) Stock tires are surprisingly good, but I feel like bigger tires would benefit it in all conditions . Any tire/wheel combos you would recommend? I also think a different bumper set would help with approach angles in my backyard haha.

I haven't had the opportunity to check out the TRX4M motors from Meus Racing. The 87t should be about the same speed as stock, the 102t is 20 percent slower than stock but should improve slow crawl. The 44t option may be Interesting to take a look at!

Cheers Brian, I know a lot of people give Traxxas a hard time but there is no denying their position in the market and the engineering team knows their stuff! The TRX4M is a well thought out rig that's very easy work on and surprisingly capable for a scale/ trail rig! The larger than scx24 size is also advantages in natural terrain.....

Hei mate thanks for the awesome video. Maybe I've missed it but I can't find any info on if this motor is waterproof? Website doesn't seem to mention it in the description of the motor. Thanks!
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies Жыл бұрын
I didn't see any info on the Mofo website regarding waterproofing. The way I see it the motor is not going to be "less" waterproof than the stock motor as its construction is similar. These 180 motors are a fairly sealed design, and while they would probably run just fine in water the issue will he getting the internals dry after use so it doesn't rust. Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer!

Just curious about the “pop” when you first apply throttle, are you running bearings in your TRX4M or the original bushings? If you are running the bushings, do you think the bearings would help reduce the initial “pop/jump”?
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies Жыл бұрын
The truck has full bearings. The jump is because the magnets on the motor is so strong to get the motor turning from a stop takes more throttle input than the minimum speed once moving, if that makes sense? It's not that bad in use and once the motor is loaded up in the rocks you barley notice it. Out of all the "fast" 180 motors I've tested this one has the best low speed control without a doubt.

High quality videos man! This motor has a hefty price 30usd with shipping is it really worth it or do I save my money for venom brushless combo. Holmes hobby is 87T is 16 bucks maybe a happy medium. I have the new injora brushed esc on the way
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies 9 ай бұрын
It's definitely a great motor, but I understand the cost of shipping can really jack up the cost! The Injora Pro 48t and Holmes Hobbies (I like the 66T) motors are also great options. The Holmes Hobbies motors are stocked and sold by AMain Hobbies and that might be a way to keep shipping cost in check. If I were on a really tight budget, I would just run the stock motor and the crawler gears! Thanks for hanging out!

@@havikhobbies I don't really have a budget per say but I don't wanna spend 30 dollars on an 180 sized motor lol. I actually prefer the stock motor over the purple injora pro it was too jumpy of a startup for me even though it had loads of torque. I want something with the same if not better slow crawl like the stock motor just more torque.
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies 9 ай бұрын
Yeah that jumpyness is something that is consistent with the high performance motors on the stock electronics. The TBX180 does improve on that aspect over the other two motors however it requires a very well calibrated throttle finger to crawl smoothly on the stock ESC. What's needed is an ESC with a higher switching frequency, and that Injora ESC you have on the way might help to smooth out the Injora Pro 48t motor! Let me know how the ESC works out, it looks great for the money! Only thing I don't like about it is 50% reverse throttle, but if it smooth on the throttle could be an awesome budget option!
@isaiah9313
@isaiah9313 9 ай бұрын
@@havikhobbies Interesting, unfortunately I ruined my injora motor, or so I think. I thought maybe it needed breaking in so I submerged it in water (as I usually do) I think the board on the motor still had moisture on it which caused a short to the esc resulting in a large cloud of smoke from it. I usually use water to break in brushed motors on 1/10, never experienced that. After some searching I decided to order a surpass 87T 180 motor, I have had surpass motors and they are usually quality motors. I'll let you know how the esc works with both stock and aftermarket motor. 50% throttle is ok for me I don't think I ever use 100% reverse anyways, maybe when tipping backwards. I'll let you know how I like it, for me getting rid of that annoying whine is already worth the money lol.
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies 9 ай бұрын
Whoops! Yeah I've used the water break in method before on 1/10 motors. I don't do it with the scx24 and trx4m motors because they are fairly sealed and I'd be concerned about getting them all the way dry inside. The aim during break in is to allow the brushes to fully seat on the commutator without arcing. You can achieve this by running the motor slowly without any abrupt stops/starts. You can also run it on like 3v so it just runs slowly and heat is not a concern. These days my break In consists of taking it easy on the motor for a battery pack then letting it rip! 😂

How Many Turns Is This Motor? How Does It Have More Torque Than Injura 44? More Tunrs?
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies 9 ай бұрын
Great question! The turn count Is not listed on the Mofo RC website. The Injora Pro 48t is a great motor the advantage with this Torque Beast X 180 motor is better low speed start up/control with tons of torque and slightly better top end than the 48t! Both are awesome motors, if I had to choose just one it would be the Mofo TBX 180 👍

Better an the Big Block motor from Mofo RC?
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies Жыл бұрын
I really like the Big Block 130 motor, it's got heaps of top end, plenty of torque and great low speed control. What I didn't like so much was the weak drag brake/hill hold when used in the TRX4M transmission with low gears. I think the 180 X motor is awesome because there's no trade off. The slow speed control, top speed, drag brake and torque are all improved!

Anyone else having an issue with this motor cutting out when going from 0 to full throttle?
@havikhobbies
@havikhobbies 5 ай бұрын
I haven't had an issue on the stock ESC, but I run the Crawler gears. I'm assuming your running stock or high speed gearing? I'm thinking your ESC is over temping because the motor is pulling a high current. Try gearing down or underdriving the rear axle to try and reduce the load on the motor.
