Testing the Remington Subsonic .22 Plated Hollow Point Cartridge

I recently found some new Remington ammo at my local Wal Mart sporting goods department. So I bought some and decided to put it to the test in this video. come along and lets see how it performs in this two part series.

My vote is to your 581. It's a tough choice indeed. I think the semi auto has some advantages in the squirrel timber but man that 581 is just so pretty. Thanks CO for introducing us to this new Remington ammo.

I vote for the bolt action hunt first, and then a second hunt with the semiauto. I haven't seen the new Remington ammo up in my area of Maine yet. I enjoyed the test, as always it was informative and a pleasure to watch. Thank you.

Good review. This new stuff performs great. Remington hit a home run with this offering. On your Part 2 hunt, I vote for the 552. We know what those 581’s can do. Also, the benefit of a quick follow up with the semi automatic could be interesting. Not likely you’ll need a follow up, but just in case.

I hope you take the Remington 552 Speedmaster. I just bought one and I’d like you to do a video on teardown cleaning and checking the rubber buffer pad and its retainer. So I can determine whether mines assembled correctly being a used old gun. Well, I’d like that no matter which gun you take out hunting 😊 thanks.

Great video take either rifle I have a Ruger 1022 since 1966 and have taken lots of squirrels with it and never had it jam one time and I also have a Remington 541 T bolt action that is a fine squirrel gun I am definitely going to try the new Remington amo, once again thanks for sharing and take care

Take the 581 without a doubt! Then do another with the auto! Squirrel hunting is where I learned all my basic hunting skills. You've inspired me to refinish my old 582. I really have enjoyed your videos. I think you would be a great squirrel hunting partner. It's a unique sport, so intense, learning how to silently communicate with your buddy, I started in the early sixties.

I'm a bolt action guy, but I would take the Semi, its dirty might as well hunt with it before cleaning. I would also go buy a bunch of that ammo before people find out how good it is.

Very impressive. I always liked Remington products. The core-lokt centerfire bullets are hard to beat. I hope that the new owners keep up the old Remington quality. Take the 581. I had a 541S, wish I'd kept it.

I'm going to vote for the 581 bolt. Semi-auto's just seem to serve a different purpose that requires quick followup.

Where'd you get that metal 5 shot magazine? I'm a fan of the 581 and the 580 SS. Kind of disappointed in the accuracy in this test; it seemed adequate, just not spectacular.

Can they offer a 50 hr. .22 LR at 1050 fps? It seems do-able. It would mean more net ft-lbs energy, even from a pistol. I am impressed with the mushrooms that these were able to produce, especially at that range. Great accuracy, on the part of you, your rifle, and the ammo! Thank you for making this video. Getting them dialed in with each their own list of perfectly running & grouping ammo is the fun part. I recently found a brick+ of Federal Gold Medal Target @ $6 a box of 50. I feel that’s an ok price here in Minnesota at Fleet Farm. Bricks of ELEY Target, Subsonic Hollow point, are on my short list of soon to get because they are affordable and good quality I’ve learned from you and others here on KZbin. Instead of those two I got a brick of ELEY Bullseye Pistol X for $103 shipped. There was only 65 boxes left when I ordered so I went that route. The other two are very plentiful & only $6 a box. I have good experience with SK Rifle Match and plan on some more of that as well however the SK Standard Plus brick is on my short list as well. From your tests in the past & many others here on KZbin I can tell it’s good to get. Also reasonable priced when in stock. Preferably I like seeing our US manufacturing step up on the quality subsonic lately. I’d much rather go to the store for decent-Hi quality Subsonic then have to pay shipping, so this current video of yours is great. We hope to find some of this kind soon, hopefully in Shorts too! 😉 Thanks again!

Well if you're chasing a 🐿 up a tree trunk or on the ground you can't keep up with him with a bolt so my vote is the. Auto. But I do live the belt rifles. And my favorite. Auto is my. Roger 10/22 Sporter goodluck on your 🐿 hunt and that's just where I'm headed to the woods our season came in on Sept 9

Looks like a good performer in the newspaper test. 22,s can be finnicky. This load may shoot even better in another rifle. Either rifle you shot will be a great squirrel rifle. Maybe try the 552 for quick shots. I've had great luck with the CCI Suppressor 45gr 22LR HP. I enlarge the hollow point & carefully cut an "+" in the tip with a utiliy knife. This creates enormous expansion and greatly limits penetration so it doesn't go far after penetrating small game in the backyard. In my cardboard box filled with newspaper it limits penetration in 1/2. I get some fragmentation of the bullets. When I shoot crows they don't flop around, they just expire immediatetly

Man Walmart hasn't sold ammo here in Canada for several years. I used to like getting it there as it was usually cheaper. They don't even sell airgun pellets anymore! Not sure why they quite. I will have to watch out for that new ammo at Cabala's.

Bolt action 581. My opinion is Squirrels are not to be hunted by wildly sending rounds at running or moving animals with a semi-auto. There to be quietly stalked or ambushed and cleanly taken with one deliberate shot to the head.

I have a 552 as well as a 581 and they both work well but my vote is generic which rifle do you normally take squirrel hunting most regularly, I would think the 581 would be your first choice knowing what I know from watching your videos
