30% less moving parts than an M240 mean it's at least 30% more reliable than an M240 as the more moving parts create more chances of reliability problems. I'm impressed with this weapon. I wish it was available in Afghanistan it would have helped us a lot as the terrain was so difficult. It's great to be able to take that kind of firepower anywhere on foot without wheels. Great demo, thanks.

Statistically, yes. But every machine has a weakest point or highest vulnerability. It's how well those are mitigated. The 240 sets the bar pretty high, so even matching that would be impressive.

Perfect timing for this video, guys. For anyone who doesn't know, True Velocity just filed a lawsuit against Sig alleging the theft of trade secrets for the recoil mitigation technology used in this gun. This MG, and its internal recoil system, were initially developed by General Dynamics. You can actually see General Dynamics' name on the side plate at 0:20. The lead design engineer of this MG and its internal recoil system worked at GD for nearly 20 years. He then went to Sig in 2014. Just four years later, Sig had their own .338 belt-fed MG built and ready to enter into the US military competition. Now Sig is being sued for (allegedly) stealing the design of the recoil mitigation system used in their .338 MG.

17:15 in a military context, the primary goal of a suppressor is eliminating muzzle flash, sound is really secondary to that at least in a military context. Operate at night and honestly, sound isn't what is going to give you away, but the muzzle flash is. Sound reverberates, and if you operate in a valley or on the mountains, the noise is going to sound like its coming from all directions, and in any suitably built up environemnt, or an ambush with more than one base of fire, the enemy is going to struggle to locate concealed firers from sound alone. Signature supression, and the signature that will allow the enemy to get rounds into your fleshy bits is a super bright flash accurately showing where your rifle is.

How? Lol it's not a double trigger, and if you mean the old single-shot looking ones with the wood grips, the trigger guard on those is way smaller. The grip is an AR-style pistol grip, and the trigger guard on this gun is almost exactly the same as an MG42/MG3 German LMG. Closer to the MG3 because the MG3 is the modernized version of the MG42.

After going through a bale of hay and a 9 inch log(weather worn), it hit a young tree about 2 inches in diameter and completely severed it. I wish I had video. The top of the tree landed vertically on the ground and slowly leaned and fell over. It was nearly like a slow-motion picture-perfect moment. With the RM338 imagine what it would do to cover with alternating rounds of armor piercing rounds loaded in the belt. I would love to see that on tougher cover.

The best design I have seen in a long time. I am curious as to how the recoil mitigation system works. I was in from 1972 to 1975 (Army), then from 1998 to 2015 (Navy & Marine Corps). So I was well versed on the M240 and the M60, which I preferred over the 240. The reason being, it had a spring and buffer, like the M16/M4, which greatly mitigated the recoil in the same way. This is the reason it is used by certain units, like the Seals, and it is used, not as a crew serve weapon, but by a lone operator.

Is it the Sig MCX Spear LT, X2 ARX light fighter, V seven sovereign, LMT R20, LWRCI IC-A5, KAC KS-1, Blackout Defense Quantum DTL, BG Defense Type A, H&K MR223, or maybe even the PWS Mk1 mod 2 Or Radian Model 1? Was in a guard tower in our little op in weat fallujah and haji did a drive by. So of course we respond in kind and my buddy christian is on the 240 and I'm using my m4. Their AK rounds were hitting the 240 receiver and richocheting away from the gunner. It was epic.

The M4 and M2 will be in service long after we are gone.

The visceral shots on Uncle Gary(me too) were what I expected but more than I hoped for. Crazy good footage. Thank you for sharing.

@13:21 I’m not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou. You said it was extremely energetic “through cinderblock”. One round completely destroyed the block, but it didn’t appear to continue THROUGH the block intact. It looked like it was the second round that OBLITERATED Gary, as it followed through the (still airborne) cementitious debris field. Obviously lethal, but minor distinction.
