Testing the TimeSplitters Trilogy on PS5 (PS2 Emulation)

Now it's our chance to show our love and support for the franchise - TimeSplitters deserves a sequel! I own the physical PS2 versions of the trilogy, TS2 and FP digitally on Xbox S, and yesterday I bought the trilogy digitally on PS5. The aiming in the trilogy on PS5 feels even better and more accurate with the DualSense controller.

It looks like trash on PS5 they basically just emulate the rom with no efforts to actually make the game more compatible to the console its on, no widescreen render modification except TS3 which was widescreen on original system. The xbox versions of TS2 and 3 look 90% more detailed on Series S/X. Sony is just targeting clueless Playstation owners to suck more money off old licenses

60fps, and hd/uhd progressive scan, depending if you're on PS4/PS4 Pro/PS5.

I got them for my PS4 Pro from the EU PSN Store. Here's my quick pros and cons for the TimeSplitters trilogy on PS4; Yay 😁; -The games have both the NTSC and PAL versions included, and default to NTSC -Save states -Rewind feature Nay 😢; -No online play in Future Perfect -No Trophy support Side Note; As with original PS2 versions, only Future Perfect has widescreen. Would have been nice if they gave TimeSplitters 1 & 2 a widescreen hack/option, but they haven't.

I purchased from the EU PSN Store, and all three games contained both the NTSC and PAL versions, with NTSC set as default. So.. yes! 😁

so how does the emulastion 'feel' like my experience with the ps2 emulation on ps5 is terrible.. like the graphics are all 'washed out' and there are visual glitches and input lag, along with the analogue sensitivity being all wrong how are these? do they feel enough for a proper playthrough.. like on the actual ps2 or?

What ps2 game did you play on ps5? I played the timesplitters games on ps5 and they run and feel amazingly well! These use a new ps2 emulator that released in June so if you had problems with the emulation before it was probably with the old one that lasted from 2015 to 2018.

@@poy110 i played psychonauts, and it just didn't feel right.. that was around the end of last year (on ps4) what is the difference with the new emulator.. and does the ps4 also run it?

@@kraken5003 PS4 can also run the games as well not just PS5, and so far I've had no problems with it on PS4 btw. I never owned the games physically, though. Might be an issue on your end that I honestly cannot explain.

@@kraken5003 Psychonauts used the old emulator that was only made for ps4 and wasn't optimised at all for ps5, timesplitters was made for both consoles

And there's a rewind feature, you can manually save whenever you want, it has some visual filters, etc. The PSP emulator has the same features (Pursuit Force is fun). If you live in Europe, the PS2 emulator loads up the American version by default now to avoid PAL framerate issues (you can switch between though). Did you end up playing TimeSplitters?

I knew that these time splitters were going to be the PS2 import the coding numbers on the game it's not smart enough to read PS5 Wi-Fi internet connections. That's crazy cuz I've been playing the emulator on my phone this entire time before they imported it on PS5/PS4. I've made whole maps on my phone lol

Nothing wrong with playing an older game that never supported widescreen. Edit 8/21/2024: TimeSplitters 2 inside of Homefront the Revolution actually has widescreen support and you can even use a code to unlock all the levels in the game.

The interlaced argument is moot since these are all upscale to progressive scan HD resolutions. The widescreen point is valid.

Dude I set my wii to output 480i for GameCube games on my 4k tv. These old games looks terrible in progressive scan. They were build for interlace TVs

I have a Backwards compatible PS3, i'm gunna compare the resolutions later, i can just flick between HDMI ports, changing from PS5 to PS3.

It will be a night-and-day different lol. They're upscaled HD/UHD progressive-scan on PS4/5, and 480i on PS2/3. Your PS3 will do nothing to deinterlace the image.
