A lot of "as seen on TV" products are disability aids in disguise. To be profitable, the manufacturers have to market to a wider audience. The easy slicer in particular could give a lot of independence to someone with limited fine motor control, or only one hand. That's also where the Snuggie came from, it was originally for wheelchair users.

I feel like a lot of the kitchen gadgets you showed are actually very helpful for disabled people! If you lack grip strength, only have one hand some of these could work or aid in people still being able to cook for themselves.
@dees31797 ай бұрын
Yes they are, just not always in the advertised way! Things like the silly scissors are good if can’t do a knife even though the boys laughed at it. At least it’s something. You do have to consider the washing up though. I had a lovely food processor that I wasn’t able to clean and it was actually easier to struggle through using a knife if I couldn’t get someone to visit who’d wash it up for me. Strategic timing of cooking became a thing.

Most of these items are designed as mobility aids for people with neurological and other physical disabilities. I was clued into this by a friend with Cerebral Palsy. The gadgets might seem silly (or like a knife could get the job done better) to able-bodied people, but they're useful to people who cannot wield a knife safely or well. Generally, they're not marketed as mobility aids, because sometimes, older people (who have developed arthritis, etc.) don't like to think of themselves as disabled, but do need help to perform tasks they used to be able to do. In other words, the sellers want to appeal to a broader market than people who identify as disabled. I am pretty sure that at least the Egg Cracker, and the Kitchen Scissors/"Clever Cutter", were designed as mobility aids. Now, that doesn't always mean they're good, but I think that's the reason for them. Anyhow, I thought you both might want to know, because you are always so kind. Peace to you both. I so enjoy your content.

Plz keep in mind a lot of these types of gadgets are meant as accessibility aids. If you dont have the dexterity to safely use a knife, its good to have other safer options.
@RioRav7 ай бұрын
Most of these gadgets can be very useful for people who cant use regular methods in cooking like knives or their hands because they lack dexterity, grip strength, have low vision or are missing hands or fingers for example which can make it harder to do things 😊 So even though theyre maybe not useful to someone who isn't disabled they can give back some ability to those that are and be good tools for them.
