so in lyrik's video, she actually blow dried her hair until it was moderately straight, and then she put the twists/knots in it and let it sit for 24 hours. maybe that's why you didn't get the results you wanted? either way, your hair is still cute :))
@shalom4441-o6i4 жыл бұрын
Roger Eggroll I also want to add the moisture level in lyriks hair plays a role, you could tell by looking at her hair. When doing heat styles it’s important to deep conditioner prior and moisturize after. Her hair is also longer so naturally it will fall a particular way. Chi chi’s hair is shorter and she didn’t blow dry it as straight as lyriks so that is another factor. ❤️

Here me out: The reason it didn't turn out the same is because Lyrik blowdried her hair to the point where it was practically straight. Unfortunately she didn't show that step in her tiktok so you missed that step. For you to be able to have a completely different curl pattern than your natural hair, then you'd need to straighten it first. Imo heat damage its not worth it so instead, look up hair tips and tricks from ppl who actually utilize their 4c hair texture.
@CassieGrey214 жыл бұрын
You don't have to straighten because that causes heat damage but you do have to blow dry because its gonna give the hair a smooth soft curl that looks like it was done with a iron. Curl texture is only good to know for definition but for moisturization/hydration you need to know your hair porosity. Ive watched Coco's earlier videos and she had really damaged hair. Its gonna take her hair a long time to learn to relax and curl naturally. I know bc it took my hair 2 years and my hair was behaved just like hers and I have 4a/4b. Once she finds a routine and sticks to it, styling will be easy for her but if not, the styles will keep coming out bad. The same thing happened to me.

U do not straighten, u blow dry it while also holding the hair, in result u stretch it downward, u never have the blow dryer on hot, so there cant be heat damage
@teshalis4 жыл бұрын
... i didn't mean straighten as in with a flat iron, i meant blowdrying to the point where the hair is somewhat straight. i guess poor word choice. Personally, I don't even blowdry my hair because I don't want to apply any heat to my natural hair. But the tiktok was misleading, not mentioning an important step to achieving a different curl pattern all together.

Ok so I do that hair style when I blow dry my hair and it starts to look crazy and I think I can help with some tips. The key is to moisturize well when you blow dry, that's usually when I add my moisturizer and the heat of the dryer seems to make it penetrate. Then all you have to do is retain the moisture by making sure to wrap your hair and the like. I would avoid adding product during the styling unless your hair is CRAZY dry. Also I would have done larger sections of twists/knots, the reason her curls were more bouncy and free is because the larger knots make more loose waves, when you do smaller sections it's trying to pick up definition that doesn't really exist because your hair is stretched and dry. I think that would have given you better results

Ive done bantu knots on my 4a/4b hair and it came out the same. Your hair needs to be hydrated and moisturized for the twists to look juicy. You know its gonna come out good when the product is saturated between your stands in the sections of your hair as you do the twist. Otherwise itll look dry the next day when you take it out, and not as fluffy and shiny. Hair texture plays a role in definition but learning your hair porosity is more important in maintaining healthy hair. Thats just what I've noticed. Don't give up on bantu knots or twists, it took my hair two years of consistency to properly loosen up and be trained to curl or lay flat. Keep experimenting, find a regime and stick to it. That's the key. 💕

okay as a true 4c girl here are my tips for bantu knots because its my favorite way to style my hair! (with bantu knots I prefer to have slightly less definition and more volume because my hair density isn't as thick sadly) -only twist the roots a little ways down and then make sure the rest of the section is detangled and bantu knot that! if you twist the entire section it comes out a little weird imo - I think mouse works the best if you're doing it on blowdried hair but if you are going to blowdry, MOISTURIZE beforehand! I don't think that girl had 4c hair so that's they she didn't use product but your hair will hate you if you don't put a little bit of moisture in. and lock it all in with a little bit of oil, this adds shine as well -if you don't blowdry I'd suggest only using a curling cream or just leave-in conditioner, not both. this has less definition but you do get fluffier curls which is what I prefer -TRIM YOUR ENDS!! single strand knots and split ends will ruin this and any style you try because of the way the strands get tangled; undoing it will be a hassle -be slightly gentler with unraveling, and make sure you have a little bit of oil on your hands, this helps with unraveling. i would also separate a little bit less and focus on picking out the roots (if you do this blowdried). If you don't blowdry it separating more is okay -also, I think you'd enjoy Blake Ja'el, I really enjoy her hair videos! I hope these tips help you out! i really enjoy your videos :)

Bantu knots actually works really great on our 4c hair. You def did it a little different😭. I would suggest doing smaller neater sections. Start with stretched hair like you had and twist it tightly from the root up, then wrap it around in the natural direction you twisted it in. Using a butter like she’s butter while doing it will also make your hair look shiny, moisturized and defined. Lastly use an oil on your fingers when taking it out to avoid the frizz and tangles

I have 4c hair used to something similar to this . I didn’t blow out my hair, I just detangled it thoroughly. After detangling it I used a conditioner, mixed with oil ( any hair oil I had on hand like olive or jojoba oil and water- the mixture had a whipped texture). I would just use this mixture then just twisted and Banto knotted it. While my hair would lay like hers I did get really defined curls from this technique. ( mine also sat in a Afro when done). Just wanted to offer an alternative way to do this style without heat.

Thank you for this comment. Everyone keeps blaming the result on Coco's right curls and I refuse to believe it. When your hair is healthy, regardless or curl texture it can literally do anything you train it to. Ive learned that because my hair is 4a/4b and everyone keeps saying its loose and easier to manage but it wasn't in my case. Technique is definitely key!

To do this on type 4 hair, I find that this works best if you do a flat twist first. Naptural 85 has a video on it.

Don't get why some describe their hair as 4c when it's clearly not. 1 tik toker hair texture was completely different. It wasn't really about length, but you looked great though! Your hair seemed closer in match to 2nd video.

I have 4c hair and I can confirm that lyrik's method works because I have done it myself and it came out the same. It works when your hair has a thorough blow out or on old straightened hair.

Alisa Harris No feel bad cause there’s 100 other videos of KZbin with 4c women that wear Bantu nots often and wear this style. Stop looking for w reason to hate light skin women it’s weird. Bantu nots are a 4C woman’s go too in the natural hair community your comment and people like you are so embarrassing

I think Lyrik’s style would have worked in you if your hair was all the way blown out. Your hair is pretty long, so I don’t think that was the problem. Even though the style didn’t come out like the video, I still loved how it looked on you in the end!❤️

I think this was a success !! 💕 cause most black girls with ACTUAL 4c hair it’s not always going to turn out he way we want it to and the same way it turned out for you it turns out for me like that. I don’t compare myself to other people with 4b / 3 type hair cause ik my hair isn’t gonna turn out the same way theirs did I only use those type of videos on how to do it and I leave it as that .

I've been doing this to my hair since 2016. I honestly thought that's how Bantu knots were supposed to be done. Looks better when you use mousse

This is similar to how I used to do my bantu knots when I first started doing natural hair. But, I never did it when my hair was dry because 4c and dry hair styling just doesn't mix. Try the style but after you've deep conditioned it or at least after you've detangled your hair. That's when I've had my best results with it.

Girl, you aren't ugly😫🧡🧡 I felt really bad when you said that, even if it's in a joking way. When I do this hack what works is the blow drying step(on clean hair with only one product in it, like a leave in with alittle sealing palmade on the ends.) U still looked cute🤷🏾♀️

I have 4b 4c hair and it worked for me. You have to blow out your hair a LOT until it’s almost straight and be careful with the products you use. I only used Shea butter and that’s it.

If you want your hair to appear smoother, you need to really smooth your strands while twisting. Use a styler with slip and really detangle and smooth your strands. Keep them stretched as you twist. Personally, I love flaxseed gel. It’s the truth 🙌🏾 your hair still looks cute though so no worries.

It looked 3A\B because it was an old blow out. Naturally, she's 4a. I follow her.

Make sure to use a little oil when taking out your twists to combat frizz 😉 It’s not the length per se... it’s how you manipulate your hair... you’re still learning!! Don’t give up 💜
@kittydollsxo1894 жыл бұрын
it's important to be knowledgeable with hair types cause not every hair type can come out looking the same. 4c hair can't copy 3c hairstyles exactly to the T. This will create the "I wish my hair was like yours syndrome" Tell them girls that their hair is not 4c just dry as fuck 😊✌.
@simplymaraxo4 жыл бұрын
I used to do Bantu knots in high school and what I found in order for my hair to look like hers it had to be straight not blow dried. So whenever my blow outs would get old I would do this with minimal product and it would be so cute.

Crisleidy De Leon the ends of her hair look a bit damaged, but I still think she has mainly type 4b/4c hair. Maybe she has parts of her hair that are looser which is very common, but I’m sure she knows her hair (which she’s had her entire life) much better than we do

Jamaicans have been doing that "viral tic toc style" for centuries. . Its called chiney bump then we just pull it out to get the curls. Looks better if its wrapped a bit tighter.
