Damn, the jags were 4-7 at one point and made the afc championship game! And almost made the super bowl all in their 2nd year. NFL was the shit back then.

And a Vinny Vestaverde fumble + Matt Stover missed FG and they were that close to being 4-8. Really adds emphasis on the '96 Jags upset over the Broncos in the divisional round that season's playoffs of truly being one of the most shocking in history.

Many observations here: Tampa is 6 years away from a Super Bowl. Their Super Bowl nucleus is on this 1996 team. Jacksonville will go on a magnificent run despite being 5-7 and almost make a Super Bowl. Paul Pierce is a college basketball player for Kansas. Chris Berman dressed like a referee felt like a fever dream. Dallas will not win another Super Bowl. Coach Harbaugh is the quarterback for the Colts. Packard Bell was a reputable computer company. Brett Favre is heavily addicted to painkillers during this season and likely during the interview given in the clip about the Packers/Rams game. The Rams are now in Los Angeles(again). The Oilers moved to Tennessee the following this season. 1996 was such a different time.

the only reason the bucs won that super bowl was because gruden and the whole team knew all of the plays of the raiders because it was his very same playbook, if they played anybody else like the titans or steelers they would've lost, I mean who was their qb? brad johnson? pfft lol come on... contrary to popular belief, defense very rarely wins championships, only arguments can be made are for the 85' bears and the 00' ravens, other than that you'll be hard pressed to find another in the past 30 years, the bucs were lucky with who they got matched with, that's all

The Bucs were bad but we saw the seeds being planted for that Tampa-2 defense that led them to a Super Bowl. Bucs Ball took its foundation in 1996.

the vikings got screwed on that 4th and 1 positioning, it was well short of the 1st down, I mean look at where the ref was when he ran towards the play to mark it, it wasn't even close... smh ... but the broncos got theirs later on when the jags humiliated them in the playoffs, so that's good

Yes! The Bills looked like a real Super Bowl contender after this game. They were 9-3. Then the Bills lost their next three and barely beat the Chiefs in the season finale just to make the playoffs. In the playoffs they’d blow a 14-0 lead at home vs the Jaguars and lose their first home playoff game in the Jim Kelly era. Soon after Kent Hull retired and then Jim Kelly followed Kent into retirement. The end of an era.

I love them old school seahawks jerseys. I wonder what the 100th NFL anniversary will do with Seattle bring back the 1977 expansion jerseys when the Kingdome opened and a QB Jim Zorn made his mark along with Steve Largent or go to the 1986 version when Dave Kreig was QB. Hmmm.

Chris Kreager Dallas always had trouble in the Meadowlands. That year was hanging on they wasn't all that powerful. If it wasn't for the wins with the Redskins The close loss to Arizona and the win against New England they would got in the playoffs but the collapse of the Redskins helped, but had their card pulled by Carolina.

@@STP43FAN1 was it 9-7, my bad I'm a giants fan and my entire family is eagles fans . But I forgot they were 7-1 . Don't feel bad the 03 Vikings were 7-0 and missed playoffs. At bad as our teams can be for spands even years just remember their are fanbases out there who never even seen the superbowl! Or teams like Detroit who've won 1 playoff game in 60 years but made the playoffs in times a decade

The Oilers got bombed like Hiroshima against Carolina Panthers Defense in a small quiet 20,000 at the Astrodome . Seattle has to tolerate Rick Mirer as the starter as they come up short in a controversial game against the Raiders in the Kingdome. L.T. And the spirit of the 1986 Giants helps the present Giants embaress the Cowboys and Emmitt Smith. Bill Walsh spirit helps the Niners win in OT against the Skins at RFK despite Steve Young putting up 300 passing yards. Eagles and Cardinals shootout in the Desert with Boomer Esiason coming through in the end. Despite a "blackout" in the South. A young rookie Mike Alstott and Bucs Defense edge the Saints.....where Jim Mora when you need him 😁. The Ravens blow the lead in B'more against the Jaguars. Wayne "Rasputin " Fontes get a headache in Cold windy Chicago by the Bears and their season goes to........well you the rest. Packers beat the Rams for the 1st time since 1969 going back to the LA days 24-9 in a sold out Trans World Dome. On the Sunday night Football game on ESPN. It debut Andre Rison as a Green Bay Packer.
