This Video shows Chilton Logging's ClimbMAX Machine which has its own self contained winch system for tethering. This system allows one machine to do steep slope harvests by itself rather than having another half-million dollar machine sit at the top of the hill to run the tethering system. In some of these shots you will notice there is no access to the top of the hill which would mean other tethering systems would not work or they would have to run a lines and a block to the top of the hill from the tethering machine that would have to sit at the bottom. The frequent road changes on this small section would make that a very inefficient system.
ClimbMAX is built in New Zealand and there were only 12 ever built. Many people may wonder why the machine does not level. The benefit of not leveling is that it keeps the machine's center of gravity much closer to the ground and thus making it extremely stable even on steep slopes.
