This Video shows Chilton Logging's ClimbMAX Machine which has its own self contained winch system for tethering. This system allows one machine to do steep slope harvests by itself rather than having another half-million dollar machine sit at the top of the hill to run the tethering system. In some of these shots you will notice there is no access to the top of the hill which would mean other tethering systems would not work or they would have to run a lines and a block to the top of the hill from the tethering machine that would have to sit at the bottom. The frequent road changes on this small section would make that a very inefficient system.
ClimbMAX is built in New Zealand and there were only 12 ever built. Many people may wonder why the machine does not level. The benefit of not leveling is that it keeps the machine's center of gravity much closer to the ground and thus making it extremely stable even on steep slopes.

Great video. Love the perspective the drone brings to the footage. As a flat lander from Eastern North Carolina that ClimbMax feller is particularly impressive. Talk about pucker factor!!! Pretty impressive how nicely that thing stages the logs for removal. Keep up the great content. I look forward to all your videos. Be safe.

That's crazy. Way cool. But as a hand faller, I feel obligated to say, I create less ground disturbance with my boots, and I won't make enough in 8 or 10 years to pay off that setup

Great video and you're nuts ! :) Build road on Vancouver Island but at least we get to make a nice level surface for ourselves while we're working. One of our contractors up here has the two machine system which is WAY more expensive but i don't notice a lot of difference between where he goes now and where he went before :) He's petty damned good and nervy too, just like you guys(and NOT like me:) ). And is that an old spur in the last part where you've got the drone panning up the hill or just a flat spot?

What do you tether to that will handle the weight? More than one tree? Does the operator position inside have some sort of leveling? You answered my other question on the engine oil pickup. This piece of equipment is better than having two heavy track hoes...the other one used as a winch vehicle. This is half the cost.

Compered to this machine Craig what are your thoughts on the concept that Cotontop3 showed in his video at OLC?
@BlueLineLandWorks
@BlueLineLandWorks 4 жыл бұрын
The machine that cotontop3 showed is a $700,000 machine and it is essentially a yoyo. It does nothing but tether to another $700,000 machine. The only benefit is the one at OLC hold more line (climbmax holds 1200) and it probably has slightly more winch power. Read my description on the video and it explains a little more.

@@BlueLineLandWorks I was of that answer as well why have a anchor machine that does nothing compered to the climbmax I wasn't knocking you at all Craig.
@BlueLineLandWorks
@BlueLineLandWorks 4 жыл бұрын
@@barryhansen6854 no I completely understand. I think climbmax just never did a good job of advertising which is why they didnt sell more. Ultimately if the had the financial and production abilities it is the best option/ design out there and I'm just a guy like you looking from the outside in. I think it's crazy to spend 700k on a yoyo

Does the engine in that machine self level some how? I would think it would starve for oil occasionally. Very cool video! High school kids should see this! A job to aspire to! And how a renewable resource is efficiently harvested.
