the icon head animation might have been the temporary thing to later send it to the pixel artist to use it as a refference of making the animation. this was done with senpai and pixelated versions of BF and GF in the past so its not a suprised they would do this again.

@@InklingPedro He didn't ever mention that was the purpose of him doing it, but I can assume that they are references for Maowling (the pixel artist) to use as other icons in the freeplay menu animate the same way as the animations in that livestream PhantomArcade did. Also I think the Daddy Dearest icon in the character select reference over top Boyfriend could've just been a placeholder till Maowling would create an icon for Boyfriend since obviously at the time he wouldn't have had an icon for the freeplay menu until the developments towards this update. Then again who knows when which things were done as PhantomArcade mentions that the team did a lot of different things in the wait for Destination 1 and the different updates we are getting are the result of those months of nothing said about the new content, so who knows what was finished or worked on during that time

Well the thing about Tankman being playable is that it was no surprise at all, considering years ago Phantom Arcade dropped a photo of Pico, Tankman, Cassette Girl, and Hank from Madness Combat as upcoming playable characters. We've known about this for years and years, and if the list is to be believed, Tankman will be the second playable character followed by Cassette Girl and Hank, which seems to check out Imo. (Edit): Apparently new information surfaced a while back where Ninjamuffin denounced Cassette Girl as a playable character, so I guess that's a rare L for the Cassette Girl fans. It most likely means Hank's coming after Tankman as for playable characters.

I think the dad icon is more for placement and concept art purposes, but tankman is 100% confirmed as a playable character along with Hank (from madness combat). 1 other playable character we 'MIGHT' get, but is not 100% confirmed, is maybe Gf. They want to do something cool and different with them so maybe they'll have their own selection screen, or you'd unlock them straight away when you just boot up the game; instead of earning different characters as you play thru it (like unlocking Pico, tankman etc).

As someone who has experimented with the engine, I'm going to provide my opinions on this. Good work though Week 4 has a new alternate background. 1:54 To be honest I heavily doubt Daddy Dearest is one of the playable characters. His voice is just a worse version of BF's and I don't see anyone choosing him. Also the pixel icons are done procedurally rather than using an alternate png. I've seen someone predict his icon there was either a joke of a stand-in for hank, I believe that personally. But tankman is 100% being added, especially with how involved his creator is with the game. 2:28 The kickstarter mentioned a two-player mode where players would sing against each other. I believe the mockup is meant for this rather than the freeplay selector. Heavy speculation incoming: I think the +10 player characters thing is repurposed for the two player mode instead of the select menu we have right now. While the characters like Pico are far more ambitious, I think the characters in this section will just be vocal swaps of pre-existing songs. This could have been scrapped altogether but I don't think they would completely remove several of the main aspects of the kickstarter (2-player, online multiplayer, changing the opponent's voices...). Also for another prediction, the characters in the "vs" section will be much less ambitious in comparison to the big ones in the current selector. 6:54 The larger version is the one used in-game. The other two are leftovers from the previous way of doing it. The developers seem to be trying to switch to more efficient methods of rendering sprites such as texture atlasing in results and char select. 9:18 These are used to mark an event in the chart editor.

Also I could’ve sworn I saw the colored sprite of Pico flipping the bird while playing the week one remixes. Also when I did the new remix of Pico, I got a glitch where the song would loop, seemingly indefinitely. There was no charting, and on the second loop, the smoke notes that appear when you miss scrolled occasionally as if they were normal notes. I left the song and moved on by the third loop. This only happened the first time when I played the song. Another thing that happened was that none of the songs loaded in freeplay. When I changed difficulty, they all loaded. Also occasionally the names of songs when picking an erect remix wouldn’t load correctly and look wonky.

I'm pretty sure the daddy dearest icon being used at 1:40 was used as boyfriend's icon as a placeholder since he didn't have one at the time. Also Tankman is confirmed still as a playable unlike Cassette Girl and Hank.

some of these are used in the chart editor, accessible in-game by pressing ~ or ` on the main menu(where you pick story mode/freeplay/options..), and picking the "chart editor" option edit: the reason you didn't see them is because you need to actually place the events, or load a song with events already in it lmao

the way the concept sketch for the character select screen is setup makes me think they were REALLY leaning into a fighting-game styled selection screen, also with the addition of choosing a random character. though in the way choosing a character works it doesnt make any sense to want to choose a random one ill be honest, which is probably why they canned that idea

Hey TetraBitGaming, theres this Cuphead ripoff that came out in January called Rubber Hose Rampage. It uses a lot if traced art from old cartoons including Steamboat Willie. You should play it as its actually pretty funny.

If they are still going with that playable characters image, then we know for sure Tankman will be playable, as well as Hank and Cassette Girl. One might be for GF, since she is the 2nd important face close to BF, so it would been illogical to not add her, and 2 guesses I have for some of the spots are Henry Stickmin and Edd from Eddsworld, since both of them originate from newgrounds and are important characters in the community.
