You just took the mystery out of replacing seals in the lift arms. I've always removed the entire cylinder and brought it to a hydraulic shop. The next one I'm going to try on my own. Thank you. Your Bobcat videos are amazing. Bobcat should pay you since you're teaching Bobcat owners like myself to become more familiar and comfortable with owning our Bobcat equipment.

#1 out of 45 Hydraulic Lift Cylinder DIY repair video in the wild and probably the best self-help video in 12+ years. Direct to the point explanation, supported by best and safe industry practices - zero fluff. You are an expert at your craft; job well done! P.S. Going to tackle replacing the manual release valve. An overview on that would be great.

Your videos are great. I especially like the format and camera work that you do. No nonsense and no hype just straight forward information. I was wondering if you have considered doing a video on older bobcats or maybe just skid steers and mini ex in general that are good candidates for homeowner guys like me that are worth purchasing and putting time into and which ones you think are good to avoid due to bad design or due to parts availability or any other pitfalls that turn these things into lawn ornaments. Anyway thank you for taking your time out to make all these

Took me a full day to do both back cylinders. Had to run Bobcat to push the piston rod out with hydraulic fluid (could not get them out). Used that terrible butterfly tool and ended up making my own with zip ties to cut after in place. Also, had to use a 2' adjustable wrench with a 4 foot iron tube handle extension to get the locktite nuts off (no power tool) after replacing the top of the rod into the frame again for holding leverage (had no vice). You would laugh if you saw all my trouble. Wish I found your video before doing that job. Really appreciate your excellent videos and skills!

I'm doing this tomorrow. Is there anything I should keep in mind on out t550?
@marshallbell9354 Жыл бұрын
@@joshkahn4408 , if you mean you're doing your lift cylinders (as opposed to swash plate), the job was super easy - way easier than I made it out in my mind but there were a couple hurdles for me: (1) got to find a good way to support the arms while you're doing the job. (2) knocking the pins out after removing the bolts took a lot more force than I though. (3) the piston looking thing - not sure what it's called - that is held on by the bolt goes on in a specific direction and I accidentally flipped it on the first cylinder. (4) the replacement nut was a slightly different size than the one I removed and I didn't have a socket to fit it. Guessing it was metric so I ended up using a large pipe wrench. Overall, quick and easy - I got aftermarket seals and they've been great thus far.

Is this basically the same process on an S185? Someone told me the cylinder on the S185 is too long to come out the top without raising the arms higher that the safety stop. I just finished resealing one tilt cylinder, but just discovered that one of the lift cylinders is leaking out of it's top. This video was great though. Very well done. Made a lot of sense. The only thing I would change is to make sure that people know that the first two seals have to go in with a certain side up.

I worked as a cylinder tech for 5 years. I have a couple of tips for you. 1. Invest in smaller picks for more control, When peeling seals out. If you make a burr, the oil will follow it to bypass seals. 2. Flathead screwdrivers work wonders when putting in the u-seal. Feed the u-seal into the groove, and when the last little bit is sticking up use a wide flathead to push the rest down. 3. If you do make a burr with your big pick, you can use alittle sand paper to level it out, don’t over do it. 4. If you have burrs or pitting on your rod, you can polish them out. That’s what usually chews through the u-seal.

My question..can the lift cylinders on this unit, because it’s a radial lift, be rebuilt in the same manner? And yep, liked and subscribed.

Yes they can be done same way. the problem is if you rely on the cylinder guard to hold arms up the cylinder rod end pin may be difficult to remove because the cab will be in the way.
