it's quite hard to play classic tetris when the "next" box is empty. a lot of the planning of placing a piece involves knowing what piece is coming next. playing this version seems to take a lot of skill

its not completely random, every time it needs a new peice it rolls 1-7, the seed being the frame counter, if it gets 7 or the peice you got last, it rolls again, this time 1-6 and it will stick with its choice no matter what

I messed around with this in Tetris DS with a cheat code. I would always stack them end-to-end as high as I could go without ending the game, and see how well I could do. I would always fill out the bottom first, so that way I would be less likely to hit a condition where because the game is sped up I wouldn't be able to move my piece out of the way in time as it spawned at the top
