@7:45 Tetris Classic FTW ! I *loved* this version! Beautiful backgrounds and great music.

Tetris Classic is the best iteration of Tetris ever. A personal fav. And that music! I was obsessed with the highscore theme, I even learned it and played it on my guitar all the time.

I love the soundtrack as well. Have it handy outside of the game to listen to ever now and again. Too bad most of the tunes are really short.

Haha, oh man, Knight Moves.. I had that game in the mid '90s. It was.. interesting, to say the least. As far as the DOS Tetris games, Tetris Classic was the one I played the most as well.

Greatest puzzle game ever conceived. Awesome review per usual, Sir.

I remember seeing all these weird Tetris sequels on store shelves, and now, 30 years later, I can finally see how they play.

I have Tetris Gold, and often wondered why Spectrum Holobyte's awesome Tetris releases aren't talked about more. To me, Tetris Classic is the definitive presentation of Tetris.

There was also another game with Pajitnov's name on it published by Spectrum, called Clockwerx (Spin Doctor if it was on Windows), and I have fond memories of it from childhood. Nice video, I never knew super tetris, as well as welltris, existed!

I love how they credited Pajitnov on the title screen of Tetris here.

There was a "true" 3D Tetris game I had which I think was called Block Out - in that you had to fill in the layers of a pit viewed from the top, not the odd 2D-3D hybrid of the official game. I remember it being a competent game, but at higher difficulties it was just impossible to bend your brain around remembering where everything was.

+DavidXNewton There are so many 3D Tetris games. There's even one where the pit is actually a 3D sphere. The name escapes me right now.

There was another Spectrum Holobyte game called Breakthru that had Alexey's endorsement on the box. Interesting video, nice to see you doing this sorta thing :) Super Tetris always weirded me out as a kid with the bombs and the unusual backgrounds.

I still play Tetris Classic on my retro Tandys. I love it.

Nice, I had no idea there were so many variants tried shortly after the game was released! Facetris Tris 3? looks particularly unworkable, I can't see how it would make for a fair challenge. And interesting to have the USSR perspective from someone who grew up there.

Spectrum Holobyte. To me known for making my favourite Star Trek game ever, A Final Unity.

There was anMSDOS tetris inspired game with pieces "falling" sidewise and not from top to bottom... I cannot recall the name, though... anyone?

In fact, it's not a folk song, it was written in USSR Music: Matvei Blanter Lyrics: Mikhail Isakovsky First recoring was made in 1939

Yo are we not going to address 6:40's background? Nothing makes puzzle games quite as exciting as having a derpy lion biting off a woman's head. We have much to learn from the past!

Tetris. My fav game. Renember Ed playing all those versions in a old computer. I prefer the first one. Tetris classic has the best control but suffers from 2 small problems. After achieve maximum score the score locks to 999999. The speed in the latter levels is slower than the original tetris.. Still I must admit that latter versions of tetris were cash grab. We could only saw something interesting in the genre when tetris grand Master series from afrika appeared. I still prefer the originals, but I must admit that the mechanics are amazing

Funny how you pronounce all the Russian names with an English accent even though you speak Russian (AFAIK). I tend to do the same thing though, kind of hard to switch between different phonetics.
@dosnostalgic8 жыл бұрын
+Ilya Ilembitov I do that intentionally. Just like when I say non-Slavic names when I speak Russian, I pronounce them like a Russian would.
