The first war of Kappel. The Zurich protester and the old Catholics meet near kappel for the treaty of cease fire. The soldiers from both sides rest together as a symbol of peace. This painting depends on the journal which describes "Zurich prepare the bread and the Zug offer the milk" as the kappeler milchsuppe(milk soup of kappel). The detail of the difference of the costume can also be found in the painting. Zurich wear the white and blue stripes while the other side(properly the Schwyz ) wear the red one.

The Germans have a genius for martial music. Oh men of Germania, where oh where has your fighting spirit gone? My grandfathers met your grandfathers face to face and gun to gun in the mud and blood of Flanders, my father fought in the Second World War. No grudges. The past is past. May it inspire us all for the serious battles ahead, battles with words rather than swords. But perhaps more serious than those of the past. Think on this. Take action.

I did not include the divine Mozart as he stands alone in his towering genius. I was thinking of Germany rather than Mozart's Vienna. Your syntax leads me to believe you must be a German speaker? 1:03 is a jester not a Landsknecht... The picture is widely known as a depiction of the famous german pirate Störtebeker but is wrong too. It's an etching from Daniel Hopfer, made around 1515 for Kunz von der Rosen, court jester of Emperor Maximilian I.

@@anthemsofeurope2408 First, Störtebecker's place of birth is unknown but it is most likely to have been either Wismar, Rotenburg a.W. or Verden a.A. Störtebecker was supposedly born in 1360. Most of Pommerania was settled in the German East Colonisation in the early 13th century so even if he had been born on Rügen as you claim, the likelihood of him having been German is immense. Also, no, today Eastern Pommerania is again mostly Slavic. Western Pommerania is nearly completely German. And before 1945, the whole of Pommerania was practically completely German, as evidenced by the fact that Germany didn't loose an inch of Pommerania in the Treaty of Versailles, despite the Americans' intentions of dividing along ethnic lines.

Calm down, guy, landsknecht weren't used to defend Europa, but more to defend the interests of nobles over the region. If you want that the european union rise more in the international politics, better creating an united polyethnic multicultural military force composed of normatized equipments rather than expensive mercenaries. You could say that under this video if you want that the Austrian empire rise again, but I think that french and swiss will not be very fond about joining a dominant Europe who is all about a military corps who beat them for money. I'm sick of seeing stupid nationalists comments under historical musics, as if society never evolved and Europe is always on crusade, it's kinda borring.

@@raphaelacquart6034 wow. You totally seem to miss what this whole nationalism is about. The idea is that european nations get back their sovereignty. We dont dream about a european conquest or dominatonn of the world. We want to live in a Europe of proud nations and good neighbors. Its our identities that make us who we are. I want the english to stay english, the scots to be scots, iris, france, sweden, germsny, spain... you get the picture. Each of us has a rich culture and an interesting history - often one of bloody rivalries with their neighbors. But thats the past. Europe should be a bound of friendship and good will - not a undemocratic, buerocratic dicatorship. If neccessary we coud act like one big nation in regards to the rest of the world, but still everyone can speak for himself. We could also build our national military in a way that they cover different areas and could be joint effectivly in case of external threat. But I would stop all offensive wars. They never have prooven justified in the long run. The nationalist movement is about self respect and protection. Not about hate towards others. Believe it or not. Go search the internet for real events of violence from the political right and compare it to the political left, those peace loving open people.

@@TheTeodorsoldierabvb Not quite yet. Between Charlemagne and Napoléon Bonaparte France had no emperor and no frenchman was eperor. "Kaiser" was derived from "Caesar" (like "Czar" too) and means also "Emperor". "King" is meant less universal as Emperor; more head of a nation, while the emperor is meant more supernational. In theory. And Augustus was not equal to, but he was the first ruling imperator.

@@philippmetzger1126 In medieval politics, Kaiser was an absolute equivalent to a king. It came from the earlier concept of the Tetrarchy, where two Emperors (Augusts) ruled with two helpers (Caesars). August wasnt the title just of Octavian at all. I do agree that Napoleon and Carl the Great were the only french emperors (the second being in some question, due to the still unformed societal and political strictures at the time - Emperor of the Franks, but they lived both in later Germany and France .. and Belgium). A confusion stems from there.
@philippmetzger1126
@philippmetzger1126 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheTeodorsoldierabvb I know Diocletian's concept of the tetrarchy, but this was about 1300 years before this topic. No one then knew a "Kaiser" and a king was throughout the whole roman history an absolue no-way; so the emperoer and king wasn't equivalents. In medieval history they weren't equal as well; the Kaiser claimed to be above all kings (in theory; reality as usual differed). As i wroe before, the title "Kaiser" was meant more universally than "king". For example one of the price electors was a king himself (Bohemia). And this song has nothing to do with what we call "medieval", it's about rennaissance warfare. And François was king and Karl was Kaiser. So the texts goes wrong.
@TheTeodorsoldierabvb
@TheTeodorsoldierabvb 4 жыл бұрын
@@philippmetzger1126 No, it doesn't go wrong. Kaiser means king, august means emperor. Hence why its Kaiser Franz (Francois) van Frankenland (of France). You're gonna correct a song from that age and time? King is just an Enlgish translation of Caesar, just like Kaiser is the German one, and Tsar is the Bulgarian, later Russian translation. Yes, in Russia, Tsar meant Emperor, but not where the term originated - in Bulgaria. There it meant king. Same goes for Kaiser.
