Hello T90, I'm a huge fan of yours, I'm from Brazil and since DE I started playing AOE2 again and find out your Channel when you were casting hidden Cup 3. I would like to thank you for your great work and entertainment. Unfortunantly I dont have time to watch your streams but i do watch your almost daily KZbin vídeos by the morning. Slam should've been way more aggressive with those xbows early and just taken out as many buildings as possible and force engagements while Fedex only had a trickle of units. Forward ranges and walling him into a corner of the map from both sides woulda let him dictate the game. Also, should've had some sort of defensive fall back point like a wall or castle to wait with his army at until his Imp upgrades could come in. Camels to heavy camels alone go from dishing out 17 to 27 attack!

Spirit of the counters here: So all Castle Age upgrades being equal, knights (10 melee attack) inflict 10hp of damage against camel riders (0 melee armor), and camel riders (6 melee attack + 9 bonus vs cavalry) inflict 13 damage against knights (2 melee armor.) They have the same hp of 100 or 120, upgrades being equal. Camels will win that engagement every time. Even with Teutons, that 10hp vs 13hp damage goes to 10hp vs 12hp still favoring camels. For Imperial Age and all upgrades being equal, cavaliers (12 melee attack) inflict 12hp against heavy camels (0 armor), and heavy camels 7 melee attack + 18 bonus vs cavalry) inflict 25hp against cavaliers. This 12hp vs 25hp goes to 12hp vs 23hp with Teutons. The play here was for Slam to conserve his army and pull back behind defensive lines until he could get his Imp upgrades. He had absolutely no business throwing castle age camels in against Teuton cavaliers and halbs. Just madness.

@@jefffinkbonner9551 I was talking about Camels' weakness in general. They are only "good" at beating cavalry and even then they struggle to win. They should DOMINATE cavalry. Versus everything else they are super weak. Except maybe skirms :-P

So instead of giving Teutons this OP free and automatic melee armor upgrade for all infantry and cavalry, I woulda done 2 things: 1) Let town center range be affected by blacksmith upgrades (fletching and bodkin--no bracer anyways.) This would allow Teutons to play defensive (one of their original civ characteristics) and not be able to be pushed by mangonels in Castle Age. Plus it'd harken back to their earlier town center range bonus that was too OP, but this would require techs that Teutons don't typically highly prioritize unless towering and wouldn't amount to overly too much cumulatively, but just enough to be handy with 8 total range. 2) Give Teutonic Knights a movement speed bonus of 0.05 per monastery tech researched. (How do you do, Aztecs?) Teutons have a fully-loaded monastery and it would fit with their civ identity to have some sort of other monk/ monastery bonus other than the conversion resistance and free herbal medicine, and this would actually make the TK a viable unit. TK's original speed was 0.7 and is now 0.8. So, start their base speed at 0.65 which with free herbal medicine would make them march at 0.7 out of the gate. There are 9 more total monastery techs, all of which are available: 6 total in Castle Age and 4 more for 10 total in Imperial Age. Thus, ETK's would redline at a blistering 1.15 speed after the steep expense of maxing out all monastery techs. Not likely in 1v1, but powerful in team games.

The armor bonus is not op though. Yesterday I played as Spanish vs camels and even my knights won the fights because I only took the fights I could win, meaning I had the high ground and slightly more numbers (1 or 2 knights more) The same happened in this video. On even ground the teuton knights would also have lost. And the idea to fight chevaliers with castle age camels was just bad. There is no way they can win. Even normal Chevaliers would be better than normal camels.

@@anaccountmusthaveaname9110 So are we also gonna nerf Malians for getting extra armor for their infantry, so ranged can no longer take them out? Camels are still a counter to the Teuton knights, just not as good as normal, and Fedex always took better engagements with hill bonuses which made the big difference. You can argue that Briton xbows are in the same situation as Teuton knights, because they get the extra range and can easily outplay skirms to a degree where they aren't really countered unless heavily outnumbered so they can get flanked. The Teutons have been shifted heavily towards a melee combat civ, thats it. I think archers and pikes would have been better than the mass camels, as camels themselves are a gold-intensive counter unit which by default makes it niche and a risk.

The fight at the end were Chevaliers against castle age camels. Ofcourse the Chevaliers will win. If he had heavy camels the fight would have went much differently.
