If you have enough time and lots of experience building ,tuning,and maintaining 3d printers , This is possible. Otherwise never attempt or buy this Tevo Tarantula Dual ex printer. you will need to modify and do a lot of wiring and other changes. Its not for the faint of heart.

For the AC terminals: After securing the screws, coat them with Liquid Electrical Tape. Brush on and let set, repeat. You now have a durable yet removeable coating to protect you from mains voltage. Ideally you should unplug it, but troubleshooting is rather difficult that way. Also get the Velcro wraps for cable management. Lets you work with the cables frequently without wasting ties, cutting fine wires, etc.

Have owned a TEVO Tarantula for over a year now and I have spent too much money/time upgrading it. But that is because I like it! Some of the upgrades are not necessary but nice like touchscreen. Have also installed DIY kits of dual extruder and dual z, sadly I got the "bad" version of dual hotend with the scews on the back. In conclusion is the Tarantula worth it. For me it is, when I ordered it 1 of May 2017 it was no CR10, flsun, tronxy printers with large price are for the price of 198 USD. If I would buy a printer today for 200 USD I would opt for a Flsun printer because of the large print are for the money. But I would still recommend the Tarantula!

Got mine for €157, upgraded it with a part cooling fan and glass for the print bed (less than €10 for the upgrades). I would recommend this printer (the single extruder) to anyone who wants to start with 3D printing.

Nice review. I have issues with most of these cheap 3D printers. Even if they have good firmware like Marlin. They always cut costs on all the support parts. Their are many nice designs of 3D printers on Thingverse. To build good solid support 3D printer. Always seem to get what you pay for. I always like your reviews, Stephan. :-)

What I want to know is, there are 2 main kinds of dual extruder: 2 in 1 out, and 2 in 2 out. So... you can buy a printer that mixes colours in the same temperature range (2 in 1 out), or a printer that can print 2 materials in one model, such as PVA for supports). My question is this: Why can't you have both in one printer, making it tri-colour? One part of the extruder could be a 2 in 1 out for mixing colours, and then have another independent nozzle/hot end for a 3rd extruder on the side of this, so you can then print dual colour with supports? It seems to me that it wouldn't be too much extra weight with a bowden set up and the hardware would just need a bigger power supply. The only thing is slicer settings would need a bit of an overhaul, perhaps needing new software to go with the firmware since it's now 3 extruders. ...Actually that last one is a bit of a tall order so perhaps I've answered my own question. I don't suppose there's enough demand for it for anyone to bother investing in this project.

Can confirm: Got a single-extruder Tarantula, and while it mostly prints decently, the bad frame connectors make it almost impossible to keep level, and the assembly instructions are absolute trash. And to top it all off, one of the T-nuts had no threads in it at all, and the kit came with no spares to speak of. (good thing I had a metric tap-and-die set) I was also exceptionally lucky to be able to source a 5015 blower from an old battery charger, and it works fairly well even with just the single blower.

Got issues with the chimera. There are two heated nozzle from 1 single heat sink. Also the heat sink as less exposed surface than ordinary E3D. I had more problems in the heated chamber with PLA. I guess the heat sink temp is too high and material soften too early in the tube. I tried to level both nozzle on the build plate as high as possible to close the gap inside between heat break and heat sink and use thermal paste but it didn't got better. At this point I'm thinking about water cooling. Do you have better idea?

I unfortunately ordered a knock off chimera and ended having to drill and tap the grub screws into the side in order to make a dual extruder upgrade to work. Another note was most other dimensions were off from the e3d opensource hardware dimension as well. So making adapters and such were pointless to make before actually receiving the parts.

@scottschnatzmeyer856 жыл бұрын
I know this reply is now 4 months after the fact and thoug very well could have purchased 10 different printers, however, depending on your level of experience, your desire to tinker and time available it wouldn't be too horrible of an idea to build your own. For a $400 budget you could create a very nice printer, auto leveling, dual extruding, heated bed..... the whole 9. I started out with first a kit printer, then a2nd. 3rd was pre-assembled but decided that for the money im paying, building my own, the challenge and reward would be worth it and it was. I built a 300x300x300 printer with all listed benefits while using good motors, genuine parts from e3d and antclabs and it all came under your budget. To be able to create something you cannot buy, customize it to your own desire and have the feeling of "yes, that is MY doing", it is worth it in the end. However, with that said, i fo have as stated other printers running well that i could print needed parts from, the time (or i did) to devote to building and the tools needed for everything (cutting, drilling, screwing, measuring and so forth). One thing i learned is the community is amazing and even the busiest of youtubers are willing to spend their extra time just to help you learn.

I was waiting to hear about some horrible safety issue the whole video, but at the end, there really wasn't any? It's common of kits to ship with a bare PSU, and basically you just put a piece of tape at first to secure the flap and make the gap inaccessible, and then first print is the PSU connector shroud. Pretty obvious and no big deal.
@CNCKitchen6 жыл бұрын
*note to myself: viewtime baiting worked* sorry, just kidding. I know this is/was common with 3D printer kits but still I think is totally dangerous. This could be pre-wired, just like e.g. Prusa does it. Not a lot of effort and would make it way more safe for people who are not used to work with electronics.
@SianaGearz6 жыл бұрын
Dude, you don't have to bait the view time from me, i watch your videos (of reasonable length - not livestreams) in their full length anyway. Well until their quality someday decreases, as it often happens, soooo... just make sure to not go down one of those paths.
@CNCKitchen6 жыл бұрын
You can be sure that I won't go that path. Would result in loosing all trust. Unfortunately KZbin requires a little baiting, but honest baiting for good content is, in my opinion, totally fine.

Depends on how much you value your time. If you've got the money and want don't want to spend a lot of time debugging, I'd always advice to go for an original Prusa.
