That's right! This cartoon was actually featured in The Mask, starring Jim Carrey. It can be seen when Stanley Ipkiss is in his apartment after getting home with the mask. Tex Avery was a big influence on Jim Carrey's performance as the Mask.

Fun Fact: There was supposedly plans for an alternate ending to this cartoon, where the wolf is forced into a gun-shot marriage with grandma. But MGM didn't allow it, because they didn't like the image of a human marrying an animal (aka Bestiality).

That is interesting. Where did you get this piece of information?

It wasnt really that thay bothered them, as a common points there are quite several interspecies relationships with cartoons. But they could have been interpreted as "chaste". Yet in that alternate endinf the Wolf and the grandma would have had little wolf children implying interspecies sex. That was the big no no

The "rally it is" voice of Red was an imitation of Katherine Hepburn. That catch phrase was used all the time in cartoons parodying her vocally. Also, the white sidewall tires was a reference to wartime hoarding during WWII.

This cartoon is iconic and yeah the mask takes refrences to Texas Avery cartoons and this specific one.

This was actually made for the US Army overseas in WWII, it was heavily censored, till a General, got in touch, an said the full uncensored cartoon had to go to the Troops overseas, where it was greatly received 😜

Man the origin of tbe iconic Wolf Whistle...and man Cartoons were adult way back then...BTW apparently there is an deleted ending that has never been shown where the granny marries the wolf at a shotgun wedding and flash foward to them and theyre..."Kids"...kinda wanna see that but I get why they cut it from circulation!

Hello!! Wow! Great stuff here. As a huge fan of classic cartoons, it is so awesome to see some love for the great Tex Avery. You may find during your research that Tex Avery was the mentor to Chuck Jones, who of course produced many of the Looney Tunes gang (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Road Runner, etc.!). There are several versions of the Red Riding Hood story Tex Avery and his team made. If you can find those it will show you more of their wonderfully absurd humor. One other Tex Avery cartoon (one of our favorites) is called "Rock-a-bye Bear". Hopefully you can find these and take a look. Well take care and please continue to provide great content! Stay safe and healthy. God Bless!

Bit of some insight I got from a comment on another video of this cartoon: "Wolf" had a double meaning back then. It could also be used to describe a man who lusts after women, like the literal wolf in the cartoon was doing.

I don't think I ever saw this one as a kid. It was always "Little Rural Riding Hood", one of its sequels, that they ran on TV when I was little. (That was one of the ones where Red performed, "Oh, Wolfie.")

The deleted scene was the alternate ending where there’s a shotgun wedding where grandma is handcuffed to the wolf to get married and if you look closely, you can see a caricature of Tex Avery as the Justice of the Peace.

I've had more cartoon crushes than I care to admit, though the biggest was probably Babs Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures - just so dynamic and fun-loving! PS ~ Yes, I know what her actual full name is; no, I'm not crazy enough to say it in any way she might possibly find out about.

During these times. Disney owned the kids market. So Tex Avery targeted teenagers. That explains the slapstick and red hot riding hood. I guess to further their grip on the animation industry. Disney decided to create their own hot lady targeted to teens. Jessica rabbit.
