No elite teams exist this season. There’s some very good teams, but no absolute elite teams. Every team has flaws and can be beat any given Saturday. So UGA isn’t unique with struggles to inferior teams at times. No shame in losing to top 10 CFP contenders on the road. Especially when you had the #1 SOS in all of CFB for most of the season.

No. They are in a much worse position now where they might even have to go on the road in the very first game and play Oregon in the second. Ohio State will get pushed down due to the auto bids coming from teams behind them. SMU, Clemson, Boise, ASU it’s gonna be someone. They end up 8 or 9 and that is way worse. They want 7 or 10 so they can get to the other side of the bracket. They were in line to be 5 even if they lost to Oregon in the championship game. 5 gets to play Boise or SMU or ASU or whomever at home and then Boise ASU Clemson at a neutral site as those teams have the 4 seed.

Joel, while I agree with you, I will predict SMU will get in instead of Alabama after ACC championship loss to Clemson. I personally believe these 3 SEC (Alabama, SC, Ole Miss) teams are marginally better than SMU, MW and B12 champions but given 3 losses, it became difficult to argue. Now if SMU does win ACC, but Boise state loses, Alabama will be in as 11 and hope Ole miss gets in as 12th seed instead of MW champion UNLV. (But UNLV will more likely to be in)

UNLV if they win would get the 12 seed because they’re ranked behind both ASU and ISU and Clemson. Rankings are effectively static for championship results in the new format. You can’t jump someone else who is ranked higher than you and also won. Alabama is not yet certain to be ranked ahead of Miami or SC this week. But if they are ranked 11 this week the result that would knock them out would be Clemson beating SMU.

SMU argument is a tough one. You brought up their SOS which I think is very important. Yes, they only lost 1 game and made their conference championship but they dodged Miami, Clemson, or Syracuse. Their best ACC win was the 4th best team and won by 1 TD. I think it's a similar situation everyone was saying about Indiana where they have to lose by X for it be in consideration. If they lose by 7 or less I think they're in. Any more than that and I think it opens the door for a Bama team with a much better resume to get in.

Tulane getting in does not make any sense, they aren't likely to be ranked (and certainly not higher ranked than UNLV), nor is their opponent, Army. Cry all you want, but all I've heard the last 3 weeks is how much a tragedy it would be to boot a team out of the playoffs for losing their conference game in favor of a team that couldn't even make it that far. The committee has shown they believe Boise State to outright be a top 12 team on their own merit, the conference champ is only a factor for final placement in the bracket. That is the chaos scenario everyone wants to pretend isn't real.

if you say Indiana is a lock at 11-1 then SMU should also be a lock at 11-1. They lost one game by 3 points to a BYU team the committee had ranked as high as #6 at one point. Also, SMU has to play an extra game so shouldn't be held against them if they lose. SMU beat Louisville and Pitt (both ranked wins at time) and Indiana's best win is a 5-point victory over a 7-5 Michigan team.

The conference championships under the new rules and format are for determining byes and autobids. Not moving rankings around. The only consistent way is to rank teams where they were before the conference championship and slot them down as needed.

I'm going to say that if you drop SMU out of the playoffs for losing in a conference championship game (when they were 'in" prior to the game), then UGA is also out. UGA with three losses should be compared to SCar, Bama, and Ole Miss. Ole Miss and Bama beat both UGA and SCar so both should then slide into the playoffs. It makes for a slippery slope that I do not think the committee wants to go down.

With multiple conferences with a wide spectrum of strength of schedules how do you judge a team? Wins and losses are revelant in the fact that some conferences are stronger top to bottom than others. Wins vs losses is one way of judging teams, however the eye test over an entire season is the best way to evaluate playoff teams. Whether anyone else agrees or disagrees I don't care. GA is good. Good enough to win a natty. Offense has been pretty good, just not early. GA is just beat up. Hopefully they beat Texas and get that bye. That would be scary to the rest of the CFP teams. If GA got more healthy. We can dump on Beck all we want. Hes still one of the top QBs in College Football. WRs drop balls constantly, lead all of college football in drops, and he still has a 65% completion percentage. Has had no help, he has BEEN their offense....no run game, shaky injured OLine at times. Watch that come back against Bama. Watch Tenn, heck, watch GT. Beck is good. With a little Oline protection to give him a little time, dude is lights out. If the WRs can catch the ball more in a game...get a little running game...GA would be hard to beat by any team. BUT, like Kirby said, havent put together a complete game yet. If they do start doing that...watch out. What I have noticed, is that GA gets up for big games. They get lazy in these games that they think they can just show up and win. However, in these big games, they seem to focus in. We will see against Texas. I feel that we will have a good measure of GA against Texas. injuries or not, they lose that game, they probably not making a natty, maybe so. But if they beat Texas....watch out.

Georgia should be out if they lose the SEC CG. Bama and Ole Miss will have the same record as them and will both have wins over Georgia head-to-head. They will both have more ranked wins as well.

UGA is a two loss team, those teams are three loss teams. Losing the CG is a different loss than a regular season loss. They wouldn't have the same record as UGA has 10 wins, those teams have 9. I know you're not very smart so I'll spell it out: 10 > 9. Additionally, UGA's wins are better than those teams. UGA has the best win in CFB over #2, at their place, by 15 points. A decisive win. Another top 10 win vs. Tenn, by two scores, and a blowout over another potential CFP team that may be the ACC champ.

Your schedule is only tough from brand name .. so many unranked nobody schools knocked off great teams this year . Football in general has elevated this year . Strength of schedule always matters but should have less influence this specific season than any others . Was a year of upsets a wonderful fun season to enjoy . What has Oregon really shown that they are sooooo good. So, they beat Ohio State...it was a close game and really, what has Ohio State done? Like these teams havent faced ANY real challenges and we assume they are so great. NONE of them are really battle tested other than when they played each other. Im not saying they arent great teams, but we truly dont know how they would stack up against an SEC Def firing on all cylinders. We just assume they are soooo good because they beat each other, but Penn State, Ohio State and Oregon havent really done squat. They beat each other....whoa....they must be top tier. Especially since Ohio State lost to Michigan....such elite teams.... How do we know Tenn wont roll Penn, Ohio State and Oregon? Tenn, Texas and sometimes GA...have some serious Def players, run stoppers (minus GA), and pass rushers that Oregon, Ohio State and Penn state havent truly seen yet. notre Dame, I give them props. They have at least done something of note. Im just not going to crown those guys as front runners just because they are in top 5 or 10 or #1 with no true resume to speak of. They could get smacked down the first time they face a notre dame or an SEC team. Heck, maybe by clemson. SC would surely hurt them.

You think Army, BYU, Iowa, ASU can play with a motivated Oregon, Texas, Georgia, and OSU? Absolutely not.....the game would be over in the 1st quarter. I agree that it is inexcusable for Alabama to lose to Vandy and OU, but they have shown that they are capable of beating anyone when they decide to show up. I would argue that none of the teams on the bubble are deserving of the final spot based because they all have a bad losses, but since no one stepped up to claim that spot I would put one of the 3 loss SEC teams in. Those teams at least have the talent and are capable of playing with the elites.
