@@PiggyPorkchop I can also confirm that they played the Amber Alert sound here in British Columbia for the longest time, until the Alert Ready system was introduced in Canada.
@blackcitroenlove2 жыл бұрын
@@PiggyPorkchop it's to honor their status as part of the original network that created these alerts. Before the EAS picked it up, there was a 6 year gap in which they did their own thing, so that's the alert sound they had available. It's a legacy thing. There were 4 or 5 stations total that helped create the system, but I think this is the only station that uses the siren at all now out of those. Working on a history of the Amber Alert system and how it took for-fucking-ever to get it implemented nationwide, despite its simplicity.

It's because Amber Hagerman was murdered in Texas and afterwards stations would play that siren to announce a child abduction before the addition of CAE in the EAS.

I think the purpose of the siren is to get your attention because amber alerts are very serious and can depend on the missing child’s life. Plus Texas gets the most amber alerts overall. 17% of all amber alerts are from Texas. Georgia and Florida follows behind at 7% and 8%
