I can understand City Market in Luling and Coopers in Llano even though I don't agree with them. Salt Lick is just a tourist trap though. No love for some of the best: Snows in Lexington, Franklin in Austin, La Barbecue in Austin, John Muellers in Austin, Louie Mueller in Taylor, or any of the places in Lockhart. Seems like a weird, short list.

Coopers is real good, but the best I ever had was at the Loco Coyote Grill just west of Glen Rose. Never had better anywhere. It is the bikers best kept secret. Highly recommended!

Don't freak out too bad about the three choices that's the TCR poll made. Only heard a couple people talk about Lockhart and nobody said a word about Smitty's. The next thing will be that you're going to talk about Mexican food and not mention Herbert's Taco Hut, oh wait what's this!!!!!! Shame Shame Shame LMAO you know you can't please everybody

I try to refrain from negative comments .....but Coopers in Junction and Llano does offer great food...but some of their employees have the rudest attitudes that made me want to jump the counter and goober-slap some manners and customer service into their vocabulary..........They ruined the whole dining experience for me and my family.......I'll never go there again and I have steered many an inquiring potential customer in a different direction.....

Salt Lick???? HAHAHAHA!!! Sure if you like tourist BBQ that's been reheated and smothered in sauce. Might as well put County Line on the list then too. That center pit at Salt Lick is not a smoker. Its where they reheat it after they pull the food out of the fridge. Its a food warmer, not a cooker.

Youre right. you didn't please everyone with this list because you left out some great GREAT barbecue restaurants in East Texas and we know East Texas can chow down on their barbecue. A place called Country Tavern just outside Kilgore on Highway 31 needs to be featured on Texas Country Reporter

Coopers: The first BBQ joint I ever had to take out a loan to pay for my meal! The eyes are truly bigger than the stomach. A little bit of this and a little bit of that equals a whole lotta meat! And to avoid any confusion, it was worth every penny.

Texas does bbq the best way. Great-quality meat, simple seasonings, and little to no sauce on the finished product when it's great as is. Pinto beans, relish (onions, pickles, and jalapeños), corn pudding, potato salad (Salt Lick-style), vinegar-based slaw, and some cold ones are all that's needed to complete the meal.
