Flying ants for sure. Termites would never cluster in places and sit there. They usually swarm out from spring till fall depending on your location. They also travel in two's "male and female " and search to make new colonies in wet wood or other parts of your yard. They will lose there wings also after about a minutes flight so they need to find moisture quickly to get started.

(From Google) Flying termites can be distinguished from other insects by their body shape, wings, and antennae: Body shape: Flying termites have thick, soft bodies with straight waists that don't pinch in and six legs. Wings: Flying termites have four wings of the same size that are longer than their bodies and have veins that may be visible. Their wings can be white, translucent, smoky gray, or brown, depending on the species. Antennae: Flying termites have two straight or slightly curved antennae.

We can water twice a week in S. Texas. Last summer was brutal heat. 100F+ for a month straight, no rain. I set my watering to begin at 5am and then a consecutive cycle an hour later. My lawn did fine. I’m strictly organic, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers and haven’t had any issues. Don’t know what your bugs are but when nature gets out of balance it’s beneficial to ask why. I throw down granular cedar twice a year and don’t struggle with pests where there should be many. The birds, dragonflies, wasps and spiders take care of things and stay outside where they belong.

As a Texas citizen, I appreciate the shoutout but if you want to know how it is in Texas, I think you aren’t really there yet. You are almost to our standard/average summer for a brief stint right now, but you haven’t hit our extremes and probably never will. I’m in San Antonio and we are about to hit stage 3 water restrictions. That means we are allowed to irrigate our lawns once every OTHER week. And it will probably be like this for the rest of the summer. Oh plus many of us growing on clay. Btw I’m not a native Texan so this isn’t some cultural bigger better thing. But those of us in Texas would really like if you would note how things work in extremes. Maybe you have a buddy in Texas whose lawn you feature, idk. Or maybe you can let us know if, if you lived here, you would just let it die off or get a different variety. I’m kind of confused how we are supposed to help St. Augustine survive in sunny areas tbh (it loves the shade though). I am legally allowed to stand out there with a handheld hose any time of day, but that would take ages and I’m liable to give fungus if I just do a little bit every day right?

I am not 100% sure they are termites 23 get something very similar in Dominican rpublic this time of year. Here it is simply an annoying flying ant, other than their dead corpuses they do no harm. And we see them twice a year at beginning of rainy seasons. BUT I am also from Texas and remember vividly finding termites in the home I grew up in and showing my father. Those looked identical to what you showed on the pot, with the wire wings. Best advice get a termite consult, we are talking about a massive cjnge to your home que and something that must be disclosed if ever selling. Unfortunately I do not think it is a DIY type of issue.

Oddly enough, I too had issues with insect recently (wasp in my case) and that forced me to get a new sprayer because my Sprayer Plus 2 gallon battery sprayer does not have enough pressure to reach the eaves area that are pretty high (3 level house). Last winter was pretty warm in WA with no snow and that has lead to an insect population boom, fun times with sprayer and PPE. I used Suspend Polyzone in my case which should prevent the wasp from coming back, not sure if it'll work in Allen's case though. On insect identification, I see that are are apps to do this, I've not tried them myself but if Allen still has the dead bodies of those bugs, he might be able to use an app to ID them. Alternatively the local university extension might also has insect identification service, worth checking out, that way you know if you need to call in the professionals.

I watched your citra blue video, looking at the website of the distributor it mentions that it’s also shade tolerant. I’ve had a bare spot under my oak tree for years that the St. Augustine wouldn’t grow in. I had a tray of citrablue shipped to Houston. So far the plugs are thriving. The native St. Augustine keeps pushing stolins into the shady area that always die off. Hopefully this will continue to do well. I hope they start farming it here as I have a couple of neighbors that need to sod because of the big oak trees. Between the heat, no summer rain and the shade this might just be the solution. Thanks once again.

@@gingermartin2145 I posted a reply but you tube striped out a comment with a url. I ordered it from sod solutions in Florida. It’s established well and with the rain and a little RGS and floragrow it’s starting to throw stolins. The regular St Augustine always puts them out in that area every spring then as the trees fill out they die off. These seem to be thriving in the dappled sunlight it gets. It’s also slower to grow. My grass is hitting 5-6” a week with the rains, heat and blazing sun following regular downpours. If it hangs on through the summer I’ll be ordering a few more trays for my other shady areas. To see how they will do with partial sun.

@@texaspowerman thanks for the info. Sod Solutions was the first and only place that had Citra Blue the when A&M put out the info on Citra Blue and no one had pallets. There are several places online that carry the plugs now but I don’t know anything about those businesses, so I’m not comfortable ordering from them. I’m going to order a couple of trays from Sod Solutions and give it a try. I’m not wanting to cut down all the trees in order to have grass in the backyard and we do try to keep them trimmed back. I noticed that the Citra Blue needs a shorter cut than Native St. Augustine…2”-3” as opposed to 4”…how are you dealing with that? My thought would be to cut it all at 3”. And yes, RGS is essential…It’s a must have for my backyard as I’m trying to get it thick and full again. All the rain we’ve been getting here in Texas has been extremely helpful…I just wish it wasn’t boatloads all at one time. Thanks for responding…I really appreciate it.

@@gingermartin2145 I just ordered one tray to try it out. The area in the back where I put it gets some morning sun and a little afternoon sun. We keep the trees trimmed up so we get dappled sunlight and it’s doing well. This morning more than one plug now is now spreading out so hopefully in a month or so it will start to connect. I’m not willing to cut down trees either. With my house on the south side and the trees on the north with fences on the east and west I have a lot of shady areas. I’ve tried a number of different seeds and sods and they either can handle the heat or there isn’t enough sun so I’m hoping this will do the trick. The whole lawn just gets the 4” cut. It does grow slower so it’s just getting a trim but it’s establishing itself well so I’ll see how it goes.

Haha yeah definitely a Texas thing. I live in North West Texas. Our summers are just as dry and hot as south Texas but with 5% RH😢 I also probably have one of the only perennial rye lawns in the whole state, so I definitely feel your pain. Hydretain can only take you so far😅

Those are swarming white footed ants. Talstar application to plants will be the best control method. Termites are unibody and subs swarm in FEB - APR in Florida. Right now we have drywood swarmers but these ants in the video are not them. They have a light brown color and 4 wings that when held up to light show a rainbow. FYI we love your channel at our office

Of course. Look at the neighbors. If he was in a non hoa sub I division. It would be random trashy properties and people parked in the grass

Here in SE, south of Houston it's hit or miss and today it was a hit, 2.5" in 3 hours. But it's probably going to be a dry/hot summer again, so thankful for days like today.
