Welcome to the 18th episode of the Texas Plinking 1 MOA At 1,000 Yards Challenge. A monthly video series where I let 5 fans come out with their equipment and attempt to shoot a 10" gong at 1,000 yards in under 10 shots. If they hit it, they can use their remaining shots on the 5" gong. The 10" gong is worth 10 points and goes down 1 point after every shot. The 5" gong is worth 20 points and goes down 2 points after every shot. Once both are hit, the challenge is complete and each unfired round is an additional point. New episodes go live on the 1st Monday of every month!

The guy with the carbon barrel 6.5 with a green stock. Your gun is a heck of a shooter, and it was doing everything u told it to do. I noticed once u found shot 5, u started blindly cranking on the windage turret. Something that will help is slowing down and using the retical to measure. Then on I think shot 7 u dialed the wrong way. That happens to the best of us, lol. Just stay on the gun as much as possible.

It was fun to see the gentleman try to hit with the Garand and open sights. He did well enough that I think that with a scoped rifle of sufficient range, he would have struck the target for sure. Have to add another comment, re: the Garand. I know a WWII vet through my dad who had to defend against a mortar attack at D-Day (Bud Anderson). He was tasked with shooting the mortar crew from 900 yards, and managed it with a Garand that I'm sure looked exactly like the one in this vid. He says he was told to take the guys out or they would all die, so he did. He said he was 18 or 19 at the time (much better eyesight), and it wasn't the first shot, though what I recall from his story was it didn't take that many shots for him to shoot one guy and the crew abandoned their position. He went back a couple years ago, and visited the places he'd been, and even got to see the barn he was staying in that got shelled (shell didn't explode, it landed in a manure pile and sizzled he said). The hole in the roof was patched and the patch is still visible, he took pictures. Crazy stories, he has more...

So AB Ballistics (and any ballistics program though) says using a 6.5 Creed and Hornady 140 grain ELDX, it's about a 9mph 90° crosswind (assuming no correction on the first shot for the first couple of shooters). I get the sense that that they didn't correct for wind at first, read the impacts and did a good job of correcting though! I measured by taking a screenshot and then plopping into powerpoint then drawing on the screenshot using the 10" plate as reference. First shot miss was about 80" off the center, just to the right of the IPSC.
