Completed all of these steps.. went to Tax assessor. You will also need a copy of current inspection. Even if it’s current. You need a copy of it.
@buxtonautosales7 ай бұрын
You need a copy of the inspection if you want tags. Inspection is necessary for REGISTRATION not for Title Transfer. I have never had them ask for the paper copy unless it's a vehicle not previously registered in Texas. If it's been registered in Texas before they have electronic access to the inspection.

Bro. Thanks so much for this video. I am the person in this case that legitimately bought a car, bill of sale and title in hand, but lost the title before registering and transferring the title to myself and can’t contact the seller anymore. I think I can use this info, maybe even link this vid, to assure possible buyers that it’s okay to buy my 06 Pontiac solstice if they just do a little leg work
@buxtonautosales2 жыл бұрын
That's a bummer. If I were you I would do the title work yourself and THEN sell the car. No title cars scare the hell out of most people and the price is severely reduced.

I did a bonded title on a motorcycle, I learned the process throughly and down pat. It was my first bike and got it from my neighbor super cheap, it was crashed, long story here, he moved several states away, kept saying he'd get me the title, he was a over the road truck driver, gone most the time, he got home one day and his girlfriend burned all his stuff (and my title). I will tell you if you want to this, you better really want the motor vehicle bad, like really want it. Took me almost 11 months, 150$ for the bond(10 cents on the dollar) then I had to buy new tires, battery, all the parts to make it road worthy because you need to go in for a state patrol vin and vehicle inspection. Then ofcourse you have a fairly large pack of papers to fill out and learn about, send all of that packet in the mail CERTIFIED TO THE LAST LEGAL OWNER, and it must come back to you undeliverable (took about a month or more to make it back to me and the last legal owner in my case was my old nextdoor neighbor from a year before.. keep in mind that the last owner has a chance to take back the vehicle during and up to I think 3 or 4 years even after you get your bonded title. So make sure if you do this that your are rightfully doing so. I might have left out some little things and the order of a couple processes but this guy in the vid fully explains it well, watch it. I'm just telling my real life story. I did get my title after that 11 months approximately, I will say even though I was lawfully doing it, i was scared i was going to lose all the money i had put into that bike the whole process (about 1,500$) because if the last owner wanted to be a d#ck or the state just says no I would have been screwed. Well anyways, I loved that bike, put more work and money into it, road it for 7 years then sold it with no issues. Told myself I'd never do it again..mainly because the part in my state where it had to be road worthy..that's alot of money in an old fixer upper to put in on a gamble like a bonded title. If I remember right you can also have the bonded" word removed from the title after a few years or so. Not that that word on the title really madders.

Tom, I purchased a vehicle from a used car lot in Alvin Texas. The original owner of the used car dealership had died, and a few of his relatives are currently overseeing his used car dealership. The used car dealership REFUSES to present a title, saying, "the title is in our safe and we will transfer it into your name.". I also asked if any leins were on the vehicle, they said, "no.". I did have my cellphone on speaker as a retired accountant/CPA a friend of mine was listening in on the conversation and who also asked the used car dealership "if there was a clear title with no liens?". The used car dealership said to my friend, "no liens, and clear title.". My concern is, Why the used car dealership refuses to allow me to see the title. The used car dealership did, obtain an inspection sticker and registration, along with new plates. Is it customary for used car dealerships to not show the vehicle title and take care of the title for the buyer? I did sign a form for Texas title and registration at the used car dealership. I never seen the title or signed it. Any feedback from you Tom would help me to better understand.
@buxtonautosales5 ай бұрын
Well, there’s a bit to unpack here. So one thing is if they got license plates for you they would have already taken the title to the county and done the transfer. Otherwise there wouldn’t be new plates and a registration in your name. Second, if there is no lien against the title and they put it in your name the title would have gone to you. Third, dealers are required to do that paperwork and go get your tags. We aren’t allowed to just hand you the title that’s in the original owner’s name and hope you’ll go do the title transfer. I don’t know what documents you signed so I can’t answer about the you never signed a title thing. We often get a power of attorney when we are selling because the title isn’t in from the auction yet so when it comes we use the POA To do the transfer. If the tag is in your name and there’s no liens you could just file for a duplicate title. Just an option.

I purchased a 1989 Chevy Caprice from someone that did not have the title he never registered under his name. I moved to fort bliss in El Paso, Texas 2 weeks ago so I'm not a resident of Texas. my wife is an active-duty military so we're going to do the bonded title under her name and we also got a bill of sale and a picture of his driver's license. So I hope everything goes smoothly! -Your video motivated me to buy it plus it was a great deal that I couldn't pass up.

Me again thanks again for the reply. I completely screwed up on this. I just told him that I just want him to give the 2800 I gave him , because he got an attitude and said " I will just give you the money back if that's what you want!". He's said that to me twice now. The ad said he had a clean title, but I didn't check until after I gave him the money. I told him that saying he had the title but he didn't was fraud, and I found out he was also title jumping , and I told him that was illegal. Something tells me I'm not going to hear from him again. I'm going to call the DMV to see if it has a lien when they open. I went to a website and entered the vin a it came back as not stolen so , we will see what the DMV says. I really appreciate you reply.

It looks pretty straight forward, not easy but doable. What I don’t understand is why some supposedly professional people, recommend not to buy without a title unless the original owner can be reached.
@buxtonautosales2 жыл бұрын

Great video. My husband recently passed in a motorcycle accident . I am in the process of saling everything just to survive as he had just turned 38 and we were not prepared for this as we should have been. Among these things are 3 trucks a car and the Harley and none in which I have a titles for. He only had the Harley a little over a month before the wreck and I have not been able to find the title or bi of sale he and his friend say he got the day of purchase. So it was never transferred over but he did have insurance coverage. Can this be use as proof of ownership? Along with fb messages between them? His main truck he did have the title to. He purchased from a auction company but never registered it and the title and bill of sale burnt in a house fire we had 2 years ago. But I believe I have pictures of the money orders and cash given. The other 3 are 2) 1972 trucks and a 1986 car we were given by a widow who wanted the property clean up and everything gone. She didn't know where anything for the vehicles as far as titles were. The car has some paper work in the glove box old insurance and registration etc but not the trucks. What do I do without a bill of sale and without a title for these vehicles that we given to us.
@buxtonautosales2 ай бұрын
So the truck that was in his name you can file for a lost title with your court docs showing you as his executor. If you don’t have court docs and there’s no will you “should” be able to use the Affidavit of Heirship form to sell the vehicle provided there’s no recorded liens. As for the stuff with no titles pictures of money orders don’t mean a thing. Text conversations don’t either. All irrelevant and easily faked. Just fill out the forms and write in “did not receive title from seller” and leave it at that. It should be fine.

I'm in TX with a complicated situation. I know I potentially screwed up, I bought from a private seller and got the title, bill of sale and a blank application for transfer and/or registration without the signatures (I've never bought a used car before always bought new from dealers). Come to find out the Title is clear which is good but the car came originally from a repo off a small loan company that I guess sold it to their repo guy that then sold it to the guy I bought it from but no one registered it so the title is signed by the loan company and I have the lease that the repoed it and the loan company agrees the title is good and the car was sold. I try to register it and the state wants the loan company since they signed the title to fill out the application for transfer and/or registration plus write a statement that they accidentally signed the front of the title. Once that's done the state said I can register it to myself. Problem is the loan company seems hesitant to sign anything and has to get with the District Manager for approval, what options do I have to still register it in my name if they don't sign it???? I assume the repo guy and the guy I bought it from was just trying to avoid paying taxes and fees. IO just want to pay what I owe the state get it registered and move forward and learn a valuable lesson.... Any advice or guidance would really help[p......
@buxtonautosales3 жыл бұрын
Yeah so at this point I think your only option is to do the bonded title process as the title you have in your hand is not negotiable. It would need to be registered by the first company and then sold to you. If you let it out of your hands and they were put it in their name they're going to be taxed and the vehicle will be legally theirs and you'd have to cross your fingers that they would then turn around and give the title back to you. Just do the bonded process and you'll be fine. It's the quickest and best option at this point.

@buxtonautosales2 жыл бұрын
So this is why you don't finance from a private party. Do you have an installment agreement? You didn't go with this private party person to verify they registered the car in your name with them as a lienholder? My guess is no. So if they guy you bought it from isn't the legal owner you can just go do a bonded title on the car.

Awesome video! I have few questions, is there an annual fee for the bonded title or once you get it your good then in 3 years pay $33 to take the bonded part off. Also does that make it similar to an original title and make it yours even if the owner comes back. (Not that I’m worried just curious) I bought a 1971 C10 from a family friend and the guy he got it from lost the title I checked and its not stolen not salvaged and pretty sure it does not have a lien and meets the other criteria for application. It has Texas antique plates that went out in 2018 so would I do something different in that case? I know that’s a lot of info and questions I’ve just been really wanting to title this truck bad for 5 years and after this video I feel like it’s possible. Thank you so much!
@buxtonautosales3 ай бұрын
You only pay the bond once. After three years you can pay the $33 and get a new title. It will be an “original blue title” and show “bonded” under the remarks. I’ve done over 100 or these. Maybe 200 by now. I had one go bad. My customer did have to relinquish the vehicle and then the bond company paid them. I have a video called bonded title goes bad. But again, this is 1 out of possibly 200. Thanks for watching!

@buxtonautosales2 жыл бұрын
Sure. You can fill out a bill of sale saying you bought it two years ago and then when you register it you can pay the fine for the late title transfer. If you lie on the form by putting a date less than 30 days ago to avoid the penalty that's a felony. Your call.

Another question on the application for title, the last link on the video, it says signature of seller/trader. Would I fill that out or only the section right under it where it says owner? I say that because there’s also a box that needs to be checked above the mentioned signatures that states the title was lost or damaged. I know I would check that box but don’t know if I would sign the section under it because I’m not the trader/seller. I ask you as you have experince filling out these sections. Would I leave the trader/seller area blank and just fill out the owner section?

@cookingwithdad1970 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately he will need to do the bonded title process. If the dealership is out of business he should be able to get a title. I have a video on bonded titles. Whoever writes the bond will be responsible for verifying the lienholder is out of business. They will also receive a letter from the state telling them that you are applying for a bonded title and they will have the opportunity to contact the state and say that the vehicle wasn't paid for in which case they may be able to get the vehicle back. But again, if they're out of business you should have no issues.

Well my guess is you got lied to. If they actually work at a dealership you can file a complaint the the TXDMV. Just google search "texas auto dealer complaint" and you should find a link for it. If that doesn't work to get them going you'll have to do a bonded title on that. I have a video on that as well.

Good afternoon, I really liked this video and found it helpful. I wanted to ask if I bought my car off Copart from Georgia and got it rebuilt here in texas and sold it to someone as a salvage title but the deal fell through, then would I have to get a bonded title? I spoke to my county tax assessor and they only gave me a packet to fill out a bonded title. Keep in mind I still have the brown salvage Georgia title under the insurance name (I never put it under my name that is my mistake) and have two boxes signed. One over to me and another over to the person that was going to buy it. The reason why they wouldn't do the transfer in his county is because I'm not a dealer so I couldn't transfer the vehicle as a salvage title, id has to register it in my name and then be able to sell it.
@buxtonautosales Жыл бұрын
So the car has been signed over to you. You aren't a dealer so you have to do a title transfer and pay your tax on the vehicle before you can sell it. You can't reassign it to anyone. The state wants their money. Most county tax offices have a form "Statement of fact" you can get from them and fill out and say you didn't sell the vehicle. Then they should let you put it in your name as a salvage vehicle. I'm not sure they'll make you go through the whole rebuild process. You can also call the state DMV for clarification.

Another question for you. If a vehicle has a clean title but on the Vin report under insurance records it says insurance company - progressive - disposition salvage. What does that mean? If I buy the vehicle I can't use progressive insurance? Or will it be hard to get insurance even though the title is clean? Under the salvage/junk section of the report it says green no issues reported.
@buxtonautosales5 ай бұрын
I don’t know where the information is coming from. It could be that they sold you the car and handed you the clean title and then were issued a salvage title and they aren’t fessing up about that. I would call your regional dmv office and give them the vin and ask if it’s salvage, rebuilt, or unbranded.

However the Waco DMV assigned an excessive value.to the vehicle based on their “blue book” value search. Can we challenge the value assessed? Please advise. When do surety bonds expire.?
@buxtonautosales2 жыл бұрын
The state doesn't use a blue book - it's called standard presumptive value. The number is arrived at as an average for vehicles with that equipment being registered. You're stuck with it. You are taxed on actual sale price or standard presumptive value, which ever is higher.

Hello I’m purchasing a vehicle Wednesday and I’m buying it from a guy who works at a wrecker yard and he told me the owner of the vehicle couldn’t pay off the debt and now the wrecker has possession of the truck with a bill of sale. Can I get a bond and register the truck for myself?

Sounds shady. If the impound yard had impounded the vehicle and done their paperwork you would be able to get a title via the auction process. If the guy had the title to the car and signed it over to the yard they would have a title. I soon suspect he owes money on the vehicle and you will have to do a bonded title.

@buxtonautosales Жыл бұрын
Well like the video says, if it's not previously registered in Texas it needs the 68-A vin inspection. That is generally done by auto theft task forces and few police departments are going to do it. You will want to check with DPS or your local police department prior to purchasing it to make sure it's not stolen.

I have bonded many Arizona titles. Simply put the DMV requires a level one in person inspection to verify the VIN. Pay the fee and go hunt for a bond company. They don't even want to see the bill or sale at the DMV. The VIN is their only concern. There is some footwork to be done that requires two DMV in person visits one for level one and the other to complete the paperwork after the bond is done. But a trip to a bond agency that will bond the vehicle is first. Many bond places see bonding a car as small pickings and refuse to do it. I recently bonded a title for a 61 Ford Falcon 2 door wagon less title. I discovered the AZ DMV uses Barrett Jackson auction results to base their valuations which is absurd given how that auction works with rich people in bidding wars over cars jacking up prices. But the bond ended up costing me $400 to bond a valuation of $41K of which almost $10K is a percentage higher tacked on by the DMV to cover the DMV's court costs if it gets sued by an owner wanting to pay storage to me and reclaim the vehicle. It's a scam in Arizona but they hold all the cards. If you want to bond a title in Arizona that's how it's done.

That will depend on the value of your vehicle. Title fee is $33 in most counties. Sales tax is .0625 of purchase price or presumptive tax value whichever is higher. Then if you want license plates that's another $80 in most counties.

On the txsdps it says you pay 1.5 x's the amount of the spv. What exactly does that mean? Also the car is from out of state and I'm thinking of getting it by auction.
@buxtonautosales5 ай бұрын
If you’re buying it from an auction like an impound or something they should provide you paperwork to get a title to the vehicle so you wouldn’t need a bonded title. If you did, your bond amount is based on one and a half times the presumptive value. So in your example 1.5x$19000 = $28,500. That would be what you would buy the bond against. You’ll want to call around and find the best price. It’s a small portion of the value.
