Apparently in El Paso Texas they just finished telling me that the request for Texas motor vehicle information isn’t valid unless I’m doing a mechanics lien ??? These offices are crazy

That’s correct. If you read the form there’s no place to mark “I want to do a bonded title” - so you are at their discretion if they’ll show you or not. You can call a regional service center and ask if there is a lien less than 10 years old, they will tell you yes or no. But unfortunately they are not required to share that info at the tax office. Bonded titles are a lot easier when you’re a dealer that’s for sure. You can also send the form in to the dmv regional office and I believe if there is a lien holder your form comes back with it listed there but I’m Not 100% sure on that part.

It’s very good but you didn’t mention the importance of a safety inspection. You will need that prior to registering the car, but it is not necessary to get the title. However if you plan to be using the vehicle in question as your transportation in this process you will need to get the car in question insured safety inspected and I believe the bill of sale to take to the regional office so you can get a temporary registration for 30 days so you can legally drive the car on the road to include getting the vin inspected if it’s an out of state vehicle. Also note there is a $25 late fee if you do not transfer a car into your name after purchase and saying I was waiting for my vin inspection date is not a legit reason

If they are out of business than there will be no one to contact the DMV and state that they have a valid lien. Your bond agent will need to verify they’re closed before he writes your bond. Thanks for watching.

I bought 2004 Harley sportster with only a bill of sale. It was last registered in Texas. I did a few vin lookups with NMVTIS sites just to get an idea of the bike’s history. It appears to be clean with no liens. My question for you is if it was last registered in Texas do I still have to take it to get the vin inspected by someone? Thank you in advance

I'd start by taking what you have into your local tax office and seeing if they'll do it for you. As a dealer we are not supposed to send the customer with the title and hope they do the transfer - but since this dealer is already out of business you don't really have any recourse there. First go to the tax office and see if they'll do the transfer for you.

I bought a 96 Impala from the original owner in California and have misplaced the title and Bill of sale just days after I received it . I took a picture of the title and have the wire transfer of funds to prove I paid the guy . The title had a lien that was signed off back in 2001 so the seller never took the title back to get the lien removed so it’s still showing a lien in the system . But as for your bonded title, you will be fine. You will need the 68a inspection if it’s never been registered in Texas then you can send in your bonded paperwork. hey man I bought this old gmc sierra off facebook and the title the guy gave me has a different vin on it then the truck so i can’t register it should i just try to get a bonded one with the real vin but also i called my local dmv and they said the vin on the title is for the truck and it was last registered in 2017 with the license plates that our on the truck but the real vin that’s on the truck they said it’s never been registered anywhere so i’m just wondering how the hell the guy even registered it in the first place because the inspection places put the vin that’s on your vehicle on the paper and that’s why i can’t register it

Who knows. He could have legitimately had two of the same model trucks. He coulda got screwed when he bought it. The inspection people coulda been lazy and typed the vin in off the insurance because they didn’t have a bar code reader to scan the vin. Hard saying. But you are correct you effectively have no title so you’re going to have to do a bonded title.

Awesome video, I wish I had done some further research before jumping into my mess. Hopefully you can please assist. I flew into TX to purchase a salavge vehicle. The shipping company was there waiting for me when I got to the meeting point to bring the car to NC. The car works amazing and met my expectations however the title was a bit of a mess. On the back the top section is all filled out with who bought the car from the insurance company and then who they sold it to. Obviously my name wasn't in that section. According to the individual, he bout the car and was going to register it but then needed the money so decided to sell it instead. I now have the car and title in NC but not sure how to transfer and put the title in my name. Any insight into this would greatly be appreciated.

You would have to do some type of bonded title process there in NC. Once it's signed by someone it can't be "unsigned". You'll have to see what NC's process is.

It's not necessary. I am a dealer, I get one every time. I recommend it on a "no title" car in the event it turns out to be stolen or something you have proof where you bought it.

How'd he take the loan out after he sold it to you? If it's a title loan he had to have the car and the title. He may have gotten a duplicate title and gotten the loan then sold the car to you with the other title. That's a downer.

I have only had one go bad. It was a very unique situation. In this case the car was surrendered to the court and a hearing was held. The party that was the legal owner was asked if they wanted the bond money or the vehicle. They took the vehicle so my customer who bought the bonded title vehicle was able to get the bond money. I then had to pay the bond company what they paid out plus the difference between what the customer paid me and the bond to the customer so he was made whole. I have a video on that too. In most all the cases your bonded title would be denied before it was even issued if the legal owner came forward with a claim. I’ve done a couple hundred of these and only had a problem with the one. Check out that video when you get time. There is a “part 2” to that video coming soon, too.

I’m assuming you are in possession of that title. That will work fine. The bill of sale is fine. And you don’t have to have their ID I just do it in the event they turn out to be stolen. Your bill of sale and that title will be more than adequate.

Hi can you help me, I bought a used car off facebook marketplace but the dude was sketchy and ended up blocking and deleting his account. I ended up getting the clean title but the problem is the back of the title, The dealer bought it from an auction and didn’t make the transfer. The walk through is to just follow that video I made. You have the paperwork from the dealership you bought it from I assume so that's your "proof" of ownership. Fill out the forms and send them in just like the video shows.

So the police can tell you if the vehicle is stolen as that’s a national database. It’s unlikely the TXDmv can tell you if there is a lien on it. Since this bike has not been registered in Texas you will need that 68-A vin inspection from law enforcement. Thanks for watching!

You can file a complaint with the State DMV and see if the State can "motivate" the dealer to complete the transaction. If they have gone out of business you have your paperwork from the dealership as your supporting documents and you'll actually have to do the bonded title process.

So kind of a gray area. It is technically for businesses in one of the listed fields. On rare occasion by selecting “use in normal course of business” the tax office might let you slide and provide the information. Yeah, when that happens the only legal thing you can do is get a bonded title OR see if you can find the original seller (the guy who's name is on the front) and see if he will sign you a "Statement of Fact" and mark down that his original sale fell through and that he sold the vehicle to you.

And Toyota engines are forever. Also, you can settle a lien claims, with lien holders for pennies on the dollar.

If the department is unable to locate a motor vehicle record, the notification is posted on this webpage. In either scenario, the owner(s) and lienholder(s) have 20 days to claim the motor vehicle. If the vehicle remains unclaimed, the certificate of authority is issued on the 21st day after the notification is mailed or posted on this page.

I'm sorry, I thought I explained. Guess I better rewatch my own video. If there is a valid lien then you can not get a bonded title. When you go to the DMV they generate a letter to the registered owner and lienholder. That lienholder would then contact the DMV like the letter says to say that they still have an interest in the vehicle. Then, because they now have YOUR address from the letter they received from the DMV you can most likely expect to see a repo truck circling your house to get the car back.

So if an online VIN search doesn't turn anything up and we're not sure if the vehicle has been registered in Texas before, the order of the steps would be: 1. Call the regional office and ask if they can confirm the vehicle has not been stolen/no liens on the vehicle 2. Submit the request for motor vehicle information 3. Get the VTR 68 A inspection out of the way if the vehicle IS from out of state (we'd learn this in steps 1 or 2?) 4. If steps 1-3 check out, then we'd submit the bonded title application with a copy of ID, bill of sale, and copy of insurance 5. Wait for them to send us the OK to proceed, then get the bond 6. Take the bond, all above docs, and the application for title form to the local tax assessor collector's office and get the title from there?

More or less. Some counties won’t accept the request for motor vehicle info if you aren’t a business. Some are. Just seems to depend. It is technically for businesses. If you call the dmv and there’s no recorded lien or if it’s from out of state I would t worry about it. Insurance is not required until you go to the county with the completed packet if you are getting tags. If you are only doing the title at that time you don’t need insurance yet.
