In 1992 around Thanksgiving my roommate and I were relocating from Virginia Beach VA back to our original home in San Diego CA, and we were snowed-in at Amarillo for a few days (I-40 was closed). I took a quick jog from the access road to the original Cadillac Ranch installation (the sign said Ant Farm) and took pictures of the original, unsprayed Caddies (they were blue). I treasure those photos!

Loving this series! I’m in SC and a couple years ago my buddy sold a limousine to a guy in California so we drove it cross country to him and along the way turned it into a Route 66 trip. We ate at the Big Texan and spray painted the Cadillacs! I couldn’t believe how hot it was in Amarillo, it so windy but the wind felt like somebody blowing a hot hairdryer on you. 😂. Also was so excited to stand on the corner in Winslow Arizona!! Take it easy guys and have fun!!!

Was at Cadillac Ranch on May 8th. I have a sour taste in my mouth for The Big Texan motel. My husband and i were on our last night of vacation to utah and i wanted to stay at the motel. We ate dinner at the restaurant and then back to our room for the night. At 9:30 that night my husband had a massive heart attack and ended up passing away that night. I was in a strange town all by myself. It took 2 of my kids 3 hours to get here from Oklahoma. My life was changed forever. Dont stay in room 122. If i never stop in Amarillo again it will be too soon.

Never underestimate the appetite of a 17 year old😂 that place is a national treasure, was there years ago saw a whole table full of challengers, including a little Italian guy in a giant foam cowboy hat, that was with a group of European’s that had rented motorcycles in Los Angeles that were riding Route 66. We had seen them on the road with a chase vehicle with spare motorcycles all the way from Flagstaff.

I don't know if I would ever even bother to try for that 72 ounce steak challenge, because I like steak A Lot, and if I'm under the gun like that and I'm rushing through a meal, just to meet a deadline like that especially if I feel like I'm being pushed to do so, I can guarantee you, it ain't gonna happen, because if I feel like I can't take my time and enjoy my meal, particularly the flavor of a steak dinner, which generally if I go to a steak place for a meal my 1st preference for a cut of beef, is going to be a N.Y., Strip Steak, and I like that partly because it's one of the most flavorful cuts out there, for me it is anyway, I don't like hurrying through a meal to begin with, and if given a choice of eat now but wolf down your food and not even get a sense of how tasty the meal is, or wait till later when I have time in my day to sit down, relax and truly savor my meal, I'd rather go hungry and wait for the better chance to truly enjoy & experience what I'm eating, and for what it's worth, clearly I am Not a skinny lady.
