How do you settle who gets the first bite of the day?
Shark fishing in South Texas. We strap the bait of the day, cownose stingray into the back of the kayak and paddle it out as far as we can given the rough conditions. Luckily, a huge beast ventures close enough to shore pick up our bait and do battle.
PS. If you haven't given ThresherFishing a subscribe and follow on instagram make sure to! Cooper is due for a monster shark

Land based shark fishing is a TON of work must dragging gear kayaking baits out. It’s definitely taxing to get the tax man but it’s all worth it in the end. Great video brother 🤙🏾

Paddling out baits does not make one hungry or tired. Not a bit. I Never got a bull. I got a tiger, 11 ft 0 in. Sand tiger 10 ft 8 in. Lemon 8 ft 6 in. Hammer about 8 foot. A bull almost got me when I was reviving a bonito. It just missed. It's head was 2.5 x as wide as that one. I was as puckering you know what for a long time. Your bull was a beauty. The first one I ever saw came out of the water with a tarpon crosswise in its mouth. The tarpon was on the line of Ira Loveday who landed the 5 ft 10 in fish on a 4/0 with the help of Wilson Pipes on gaff with two helpers pulling it away from the bullshark which had its tail. I was only 17 but the backdrop of the first part of sunrise behind that epic battle was forever burned into my memory of tarpon fishing on Bob Hall pier. That was 60 years ago. Usually it was the guys with 209's that got their big tarpon chomped.

This is older video I'm just seeing but I hope someone else pointed out that with those big animals off the shoreline, walk backwards then reel while walking yourself forward. Saves all your muscles so you can keep fishing and not pull. A muscle or tire out too soon.

Next time drop that whole cownose Ray and when you make your leader use a thousand pound cable 2000 pound mono with a 20/0 size hook and those are baby reels compared to my 130's

@saltwaterrook4638 5 жыл бұрын
Lmao Florida boys over compensating. 700lb wire, 700lb mono and 80wides have landed 1000lb sharks. Damn near all of us down here run straight 130JB braid. Some use 200lb. Lmao and you're talking 2000lb mono. I'm sure you meant 200... but still not needed.
@larrytischler8769
@larrytischler8769 5 жыл бұрын
@@saltwaterrook4638 You obviously never fished in the high energy Texas surf. We used 3/32" 7x7 strand cable and 16/0 to 20/0 hooks with a castnet swivel on top. If the surf was up, sometimes we used 1/8 in cable on the hooks and up 6 to 8 ft. to keep it from twisting up and breaking. Wire is useless because of kinks. The sharp shells cut mono. We put a float on the top swivel. Often the shell cuts the line during a fight. Some people fight out of their truck bed to keep the line off the bottom.
